QUEST 3 - Low power bug

I’ve just RMA my Quest 3 because the quality inexplicably seemed to get worse.

Aliasing, blurriness, after having had a great experience with it.

So it turns out that there is this bug where once it drops into low power mode, it stays there even if you turn it off. So you are basically stuck in this low res world matter what you do. It was driving me crazy.

Apparently this bug is quite widespread and sometimes it ships with the thing already stuck in low power mode! And there is no fix. The support people know all about it, but there is no fix so it’s kept quiet.

It explains why I often see people complaining about the quality looking awful. It’s very likely that these people are experiencing this bug.

The way to tell is if you get any aliasing on those round podium things on the ground in the Home Screen. There is one off to the left in the default position.

Just thought I’d pass it along.

Thanks for the heads up, can you just clarify your last sentence please, which Home Screen? Thanks

Thanks for sharing this important info :+1:

I activated the low power mode and the brightness fell by 50%. I then deactivated the low power mode and nothing happened. I had to reset the brightness slider to 100% to get it back to its initial state.

Thanks for the info.

Is there no other way to define that the bug has caught?

No indicators in settings?

I’m new to the Q3 and would like to keep an eye on it, especially as I ran into the :battery low:recharge now" warning yesterday.

Can you post link(s) to support this assertion? Thank you!

Hi guys,

here the META support link to this bug:

I also noticed different image qualities (and brightness) in the last weeks. In the first instance I thought about MS server, rendering issues. Had no idea…

There are threads about that in reddit and meta forums.

I checked my settings and I did not set the battery saver on.
I had once my battery almost empty but it did not seem to trigger the bug.
All seems clear in my headset. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for the link! Five months in and they still don’t have a fix. Truly unbelievable.

This error is now a bit irritating to me. I will now have sleepless nights in which I ask myself: is the image in Quest 3 now sharp or could it be even sharper? :grimacing:

That was my reasoning behind asking if there was another way to see if it has jammed in low-power or not. I almost ran th epower out yesterday so i’m not sure if triggered or not.

I remember 3 weeks ago I had a bad blurry image. In the air, ground was blurred. And the brightness of the Quest 3 changed, suddenly becoming darker. The battery wasn’t empty because I primarily use the Quest link cable.
Now I have the reason for this behavior.

I don’t think I’m impacted, but maybe others can confirm if what I’m seeing is normal. If I’m in a flight and open the menu, the straight lines that separate the options get very jagged if I tilt my head, as if it’s low resolution regardless of what my headset resolution is set to. I thought this was just normal since VR is still low resolution compared to 2D in most cases, but now I question if that’s the case. I checked and my battery saver option is turned off, but I got the Q3 used and not sure what it was before I got it.

Hi guys, after 3 hours on the sim I have good news (in my case):
I’m not infected by the Quest 3 low power bug. @the moment. Everything was sharp. Ground, plane textures, inside, outside, clouds…

I think I’m now at a the point of “never touch a fantastic running system” > SU 15 beta.
The last 3 hours in 3 different planes (GA and A320 V2), 5 different locations, and airports.
Everything works fantastic. Smooth (VR pilot here), no stutters. No CTDs. A perfect clarity. Reached about 98% during all flights my locked 40 fps, DX12, HAGS on, OXT > FoV 91%, VD, Godlike mode, 80 Hz, community folder empty.
My OC 7800x3D and OC 7800XT in my Cooler Master NR200P MAX case with AIO working after a new fan installation and configuration fantastic, reach a max. temperature of 80 degrees.

Without a overstatement: Had the time of my lfe. Had the hours in my MSFS life

I guess you can ignore my last post. I decided to try connecting with a USB cable instead of Air Link, and things were much improved. Apparently Air Link just isn’t respecting the resolution settings. Now to decide if I want to try Virtual Desktop (so I can keep my extended battery plugged in), or stay on USB (for convenience).

Yep that’s the bug. The twisting the head thing is exactly it.

The candy coloured world with skyscrapers and a hovering robot and a mirror to your right. The circular things on the ground should not be aliased. The panel should not have blurry edges.

Is the resolution looking good? The brightness will change but the resolution may still be stuck. The way to tell is whether the Home Screen doesn’t look aliases.

First of all turn off battery saver mode or whatever it’s called. Check to see if all edges are smooth in home screen.
