For me… It’s between the Quest 3 and the Pimax Crystal. However I need something fast because I am loosing interest in MSFS 2020 . I still don’t understand why MSFS does not invest in VR . The name of the game is Microsoft Flight Simulator and the best way to be in a Simulator is in VR.

Massive rabbit hole alert!

What do you mean? I play in VR every day?

I had completely different experience of moving to Quest Pro from Quest 2 and G2.
RTX 3080 and I7 13700
My configuration is dedicated WIFI router for AirLink, in Oculus App refresh rate 72HZ and 1.3 (native rendering resolution)
In Oculus debug tool FOV 0.85,0.85 and Force 45HZ AWS disabled
In MSFS DLSS Quality and everything on high except Raytracing, Light Shafts and Ambient Occlusion on Low
Perfectly smooth and clear. Can also use TAA for even more clearness

It feels like a little disingenuity in your post. I presume you have read all the discontent in the VR section. Or are you saying none of those issues applies in your case?

If I would’ve set it up correctly in the first place, that would’ve been different

Ah, like that. I thought he thought that Asobo didn’t implement VR yet.

I’ve read all the discontent, yes. Personally, I’m not affected that much. I don’t use VR controllers and the normal windows (weather, time, etc) work fine and I only have them open for a short amount of time. For GA flying, VR is currently more than fine.

Oh well , I’m stuck with it… I should have read better the return policy with Best Buy, the headset needs to be in unopened state for return.

So be warned , do not buy from Best Buy if you intend to test and return.

@jeerouss You should be able to return it after opened. It just needs to be in as-new condition, that’s all. I think you may need to do this within 14 days for a full refund.

In any case, the Quest Pro needs a stronger GPU to get the best out of it compared to dedicated PCVR headsets like your G2. This is because the GPU needs to handle compression/encoding with Link or Air Link and this can use around 10-15% of your GPU resources. Nvidia rtx series GPU’s have faster encoders than AMD so you should favor Nvidia rtx gpu’s imho. With MSFS probably a rtx3080 12Gb or better should work well.

Can you make it look unopened? If it has seals, that could be hard, but years ago when I worked in an office supply store we had people come in and pay a couple bucks to get items shrink wrapped so they could return them lol

Failing that, you’ll probably be able to sell it for a good share of that money if not full price.

I had a completely different experience with the Quest Pro. It was a complete visual upgrade from the G2. So much that I stopped using the G2. The FOV, the clarity, the edge to edge sharpness just blew the G2 away. In the end, I returned it after finding out the Quest 3 is coming out which will be cheaper and also have pancake lenses.

The lenses (fresnel) on the G2 are awful once you use pancake lenses.

Actually, I reconnected it this morning and realized I was at 1.0x resolution instead of boosting it to 1.3x (which is apparently native?)… don’t know how or why I missed that but it’s now way more enjoyable… I’ll delete my post by the end of the day because I think it is indeed an improvement over my G2… is it a 1600$ improvement, not sure yet but at least I don’t feel like I totally lost it lol

I also upgraded from a G2 to a Quest Pro and, imo, it is a NIGHT AND DAY improvement in every aspect, except for onboard audio. I do have a 4090/7950x3D combo though, so maybe that factors in. Even with lower specs on paper, I think the FOV is better, the edge to edge clarity is fantastic and being able to see my screens with much less head movement is very nice. I refer to it as an “Aero-Light” because you get most of the way to the Aero experience (yes, I have tried that headset as well) without the insane cost associated with getting it up and running.

I used these settings for initial Quest Pro setup:

I know that is on the DCS forum, but the settings used are not game specific.

Are you able to run it at 72fps locked in the more forgiving areas? Without MR of course

So do i,Reverb G2,Windows mixed reality.

I doubt even a 4090 can lock at 72fps (or barely). I’m wayyyy below that !!

(also for info, I managed to sell it back for 1400$ because even though the image and clarity is exceptional, it’s not a 1400$ upgrade from the G2, far from it)

I can run 72fps more or less locked on a Pico in less urban areas if I tweak the settings as needed. Also on a G2, but of course that causes stutters since it can only do 90 or 60hz. Was thinking on the Pro it might be easier to get there since it’s lower Res, plus it actually has a 72hz mode, unlike the G2.

This is with a 7800x3D and 4090

This forum looks really useful! I’m going to play around with these settings. i love my Quest Pro but I hate the compression that I get in clouds/fog, just horrible banding even running at maximum resolution with the cable on a 13900K, 4090 PC. I sometimes have to disable live weather and use the few clouds preset because the fog and haze looks far too distracting with the banding. I had some in the G2 as well but not as noticeable. Hopefully a tweak with these settings can help. The cockpits already look great for me and fully readable, but distant horizon objects can shimmer and the cloud compression annoys so fingers crossed I can improve it a bit.
