Radial approach? Please help

So I am doing a short flight from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro in the A320. IFR, high altitude airways.

And ATC gives me this approach for Runway 28:

I’ve never gotten an approach like that before. What do I have to do here?

I’ve been checking out the approach charts for SBGL but can’t find any radial called “CXI”. http://www.fly-sea.com/charts/SBGL.pdf

I assume I’m supposed to tune in into a VOR/DME at heading 94, but I can’t find any VOR/DME called CXI on approach charts or skyvector. So… now I’ve just paused the sim till hopefully someone can help me out.

Moved to Community Support.

Not sure. This is a really old chart below, so either the procedures have changed or it’s a sim nav database error.

If I ever get an unexpected approach, I’ll try requesting a different one through ATC. Yesterday it wanted me to approach a landing into Ho Chi Minh City with a VOR and I requested the RNAV instead. As long as I don’t also try to change runway (which rarely works), this method is ok.

(This actually looks like a fun approach)

Well, first of all, you are using a chart from 30 july 04?

Might want to look for a new one, as in the last 18 years they might have added some approaches…

Skyvector does mention CXI:

For the rest i’m still digging for a newer Chart for SBGL.

Lol, no worries, i was just curious and came to the same conclusion, that it’s the airport itself. Hahaha, Well done to you too!

Hope it helps out Biggie on his approach.

Ah thank you very much, I’m gonna try that approach in a little bit. Ended up just canceling IFR and freeballing it with a visual approach.

Where do you get your approach maps from? I was Googling but couldn’t find anything helpful.

Thanks a lot guys, this is the info I needed. Will give it another go a little bit later!

not all is free available.. as example for NAVIGRAPH you need an subscription.

I see you’ve got the correct chart now. One thing to remember, radials radiate out. So if you’re flying a radial inbound to a VOR, your heading is actually the reciprocal of the radial (in this case 274 degrees).

The phraseology is wrong though, apart from the “maintain heading and altitude” it should just clear you for approach via …, its up to you to follow the procedure as depicted on the approach plate which in this case includes a DME arc.
