Real Environment Xtreme Announcement | REX Weather Force Weather Engine

How does this work when flying transoceanic like KSFO to PHNL? If there is low stratus at KSFO, I don’t want to see that globally represented until I get to Hawaii.

But with rex6 weather does the sim still have turbulence over the mountains and clouds or is like p3d ?

I just publushed my own version of METAR support for MSFS 2020. It is similar to what REX is doing. You may want to give it a try.

You can find the details and the dowload link in this post:

I have spawned at YWSL airport in Australia, yet the live weather is injecting from YWGT - An airport 121km away!! No where near where I am, at YWSL it is clear skies yet it injects a massive rain storm that isn’t (yes, is not!!) happening at YWGT either. If anyone has any idea why its using a different metar to the airport that Im at please let me know!

the issue I have is that there is no “Microsoft Flight Simulator” folder in my AppData / Roaming folder… any idea where can I look for it? I think is in a different location, depending if it was bought on steam or via microsoft store… I bought mine via Microsoft Store…
Hold on, I just located it.

Have you reported this issue yet to support?

When this injects weather updates from different stations, do you lose all clouds etc for a few seconds? Or is it a smooth transition?

I have not, I will have to report it to REX

On that Weather settings screen (see my screenshot), note the little buttons to the right from the preset selector. They are kind of confusing to work with, but you can copy an existing preset and give it a new name. Your new copied preset will be saved in that Presets folder that you are trying to locate.

Once you have created your own preset, go to Windows Explorer and globally search for *.WPR files, and then you can locate that folder.

Please post your findings, so I can update the instructions. Thanks.

Smooth transitions, and controls are given to delegate.

Some bugs are here, at the moment we cant choose our favourite airport.

I have never seen cirrus clouds or lenticular clouds or proper looking Cb with icy anvil tops. So far I have not see a visible temperature inversion or dust haze over a city. When flying over the UK the visibility has always been CAVOK, as a pilot I can say that this is not really realistic, especially for the UK. The cloud depiction is otherwise, (to use an Americanism) awesome! I have tried to set up conditions to create lenticular clouds over mountains, this effort has failed miserably. It’s quite refreshing to fly in an environment where all the clouds look different. X-Plane 11’s clouds are cloned and look very unnatural, so well done Asobo!

The AerLingus A320 in the picture above, looks as if it’s flown through a ‘cumulo candy floss’ cloud, the front of the aircraft is covered with it! Charles

I think not every airport has metar available
Meaning the closest available will be sellected ( the the BIG disadvantage of metar based weather programs )

Thats why it could be when you are in the middle of the atlantic … you have the weather of the last metar in Ireland ( example )

As u can see below currently no metar available also on that website for the AP you are flying from

Yesterday i had a flight with DEFAULT MSFS weather from the uk to the netherlands in a c172

Real world situation
Cloudy uk
Rain front in the middle of north sea
Light clouds but hard winds in netherlands

MSFS :+1:
Cloudy uk
Rain front in the middle of north sea
Light clouds but hard winds in netherlands

YES winds at eham where of 10 degrees and a few knots … YES on the radar the front was of by 20 miles or so ( closer to the netherlands in RL ) …

BUT OVERALL impresive

This is a €129 PC game … manage your expectations … what ever amount on addons you spent it will NEVER be 100% the real situation.

So let me get this straight. You jump on this thread, and publish a free version of what REX has done on the same day of their release? Hahaha, that’s unreal!

And this is EXACTLY why I don’t like REX and won’t buy anything from them. Typical for REX to quickly release an overhyped cash grab product that probably will become redundant in the (near) future. I don’t understand people fall for this.
