If you meant me. I hit the wrong reply button. I meant to reply to to the comment above. I am not judging the addon yet. I mean buy, buy, buy.
Same here: Need help with Unreal Weather-Live METAR
I have the same issue, and I am the administrator, I have been trying to change administrator permissions but I get the denied access no matter what I do. Very frustrating
My experience. LIMC airport (I live 5 km from the runways) with these results:
- metar(Rex weather): clear sunny sky (as per metar observation up to 1500 ft) Without a single cloud
- live weather: high altitude dark clouds
- my window: as live weather
Seriously, such a program is unnecessary. People just canât get it into their heads because they had to use inferior Sims for decades, which had no or very bad weather engines. Back then, such programs were necessary. Now we have a perfect native weather engine and they are unable to realize it because they are corrupted by the other sims. The distrust is too big.
The other thing that many donât realize is that none of the third party weather engines were perfect. They were all very different and had their advantages and disadvantages. None of these programs could perfectly recreate the real weather.
But I donât think REX is scam. For that, about 20$/⏠are too little. The real rip-offs will come (AktiveSky for example).
No one said is scam. Thatâs not the point. But why pay $20 if you can have it for free? See above.
Exactly. Itâs window-dressing.
Reports already of âinstant changesâ in the weather because of REXâs METAR to METAR setup. HahahahahahaâŠI knew thatâs how it was going to go down. Everybody, letâs party like itâs 1999, because thatâs what tech REX is bringing to MFS. LOL
Personally, based on Asobo advertising videos I did believe that all of this ideal âliveâ weather you just shared will be included in the sim at the release date! Why? just because those realistic features (this ideal scenario) were supposed to be integrated in MFS2020 at the release date, in the first place!
The proof is in MFS/Asobo Youtube videos! They clearly said that : âMFS2020 has a new real live weather full of accurate meteorological phenoma included in the sim as it never happened so far etc etcâ⊠Videos are in English and in French, itâs clear, no need to translate, it is mentioned in both language with solid marketing/arguments etc, which means that it was pure bâŠt eventually!
Facts are there, right here:
Now you have my feeling placed between advertisings/pure lies and the reality after opening my wallet but thatâs ok I deal in a cool way with that especially since the last patch. But I donât forget that on August 16th I wrote to Asobo : âI canât wait, still two days before MFS2020 release date! Canât believe that it will be the first time that we have a Flight Simulator as a full-package that wonât need third party addons because of new revolutionary Flight Models and a New Live-Weather Engine!â ⊠Well, I now admit that I was a little bit naiveâŠ
Anyway, letâs hope that very soon we will have an accurate and realistic weather finally! ⊠as it was loudly annonced for August 18th and then it wonât be possible to fly through CB/TS with a Cub anymore, for instance. (which is so unrealistic!)⊠Indeed it looks like that itâs getting better in general concerning the engine-live-weather, step by step from updates to patches (and maybe in a short future from a solid addon engine weather like REX(+) or Active Sky or the Breath of Homer Simpson then we will get turbulence in CB, dangers in thunderstorm updraft/downdrafts/Ice/etc like it is provided with Xplane11/Active Sky and else!) ⊠Until now we are still far away from what happens and occures in real skies: (âgrounded-pilotâs speakingâ)! ⊠but itâs getting better anyways.
Happy Flyings!
Here is a video review, you can make up your own mind âŠ

Sorry this video has a link above but there are numerous new ones appearing already!
Double posting. This is penetrating and the forum is not a lift drum pillar. Thanks.
Here is a reply from Damian at HiFi:
The developers (Asobo) have made it clear (based on things including several publicly posted developer chats on the SDK subject) that they donât want âextra-SDKâ development for reasons of interoperability and compatibility concerns and have attempted to âbutton things downâ to make things better for the user. Out of respect to Asobo and their apparently desired integration methods, we have so far refrained from such kind of âextra-SDKâ integration. There are no SDK functions for weather at this time, the previous functions are disabled, and the docs indicate âto doâ and âdeprecatedâ statuses for weather category and previously-working functions respectively. We have made a tremendous effort at discovery of potential undocumented or unexpected weather control functionality using the available SDK, but we have not found any. In addition, there are issues/bugs with the existing functionality that prevents even basic weather representation, persistence, saving and loading with manual existing UI controls. There are simconnect issues preventing even basic proper flight/situation control. There are many other issues and concerns, but we feel these things will be addressed in time. When that time comes, we are ready and have already prepared a product for rapid integration and completion.

So basically, you pay $22 for preset weather with REX. Oooooookaaaaaay.
This is the biggest crĂĄp ever. Thatâs always bothered me the most. You see an interesting cloud formation, you fly there to see what is going on and poof, it disappears in front of your eyes.
And people pay for it now? Strange.
If somebody is not satisfied with the native weather engine, then make suggestions for improvement. And donât ask for external programs that you have to pay for.
The weather change that didinât happen, then was forced by JeffâŠwas crazy bad. Jumped from SCT/BKN to overcast and rain and turbâŠinstantly.
Mind is definitely made up.
So, if they hack values into mem you buy it as is, there is no way to be sure it works next week or after with a sim update.
Pretty much. Thereâs this notion where anything thatâs third party gets anything excused to it, while 1st party has to be bad. MSFS weather is very good, it has issues, sometimes big ones, but by far and large IT DELIVERS and as people said itâs a smooth transition : see the cloud? Go to it. No â â â â â â â â METAR readings halfway through that change the weather.
Bingo. That is why people should be extremely cautious purchasing third-party anything at the moment. Considering the massive amount of under-the-hood work that Asobo needs to do, they literally might not work in the future. Caution extends even to the free ones since they may break game updates despite being in theory (but not really) sand-boxed in the community folder.
Because at the moment, YWSL is not reporting METARS on the worldwide data feed. Either YWSL does not have METAR reporting capability, or there is some kind technical problem that is preventing the reports from being transmitted. I assume in a situation like this, all Rex can do is to set the weather basd on the next-nearest airport that does have a current report.
The screen capture below if from ForeFlight:
You know what, stuff like clouds disappearing and reappearing isnât even that bothersome. Whatâs scary is the potential of sudden and abrupt wind shifts / turbulence. Ah the days of FSX/P3D/X-Plane, where one minute you are flying with one hand and enjoying your home made sandwich with the other, and the next, the airplane you are monitoring overspeeds and gets into some weird unusual attitude. Alarm bells go off, and you contemplate whether or not to continue the flight or just accept the temporary unrealism.
The only reliable product that really addressed such unrealistic problems was Activesky to my knowledge. As for REX, theyâve never got a weather engine right in all the years Iâve been a patron to them, and Iâve been with them from the beginning until SkyForce.
