Visually sure. Functionality? not by a long shot. FSX had a far better G1000 on launch.
The numeric touchpad keys don’t even work on the premium deluxe SR22

That will end up being a huge expense; developer and QA resources are expensive.
Yes but it’s STILL BEING WORKED ON. I don’t believe FSX had any changes to the aircraft other than DX10 support in the service packs… this is being done in a more agile manner than we are used to and we are to see fixes and improvements on a regular schedule.
It is a flight simulator, just an incomplete one. It’s like folks think the “flight simulator” label can’t be used until their particular type of preferred sim flying is included. The VFR GA flying is so amazing in this game specifically because of the “scenery simulator” component of it, and that is a huge part of real world aviation. A lot of us are happy that’s where the emphasis in this game went, yet understand folks who were used to having it another way would be disappointed.
You are right. It is a GA flight and Scenery simulator. I keep forgetting since I live in Atlanta and fly mostly airliners. The best flight I have ever had was in the Beta version in the Ceesna 152 from KFTY to KBHM. Just waiting to buy for the big heavies I love so much.
For now…![]()
Right, but the question wasn’t “are they being worked on”
The question was “Are these the best out of the box planes in any flight sim?”
And the answer to that, is no.
Well the only other alternative is waiting another decade for Bing map updates or World 2.0 updates from Microsoft. Both of which infinitely more time and resource intensive.
The gateway system shouldn’t replace but rather complement the above two initiatives from Microsoft. It makes the whole process of updating scenery development faster for everyone involved.
You could also use those same teams at Asobo who are working on the World 2.0 updates to approve the community developed scenery.
Outside of the fact that no one said “out of the box” anywhere… what is your interpretation of that phrase? Just because they are continuously updating the aircraft doesn’t mean they are “no longer out of the box”.
If I were to purchase the game a year or two from now and the planes/systems are refined more does that suddenly not qualify?
Please enlighten me…

They have that Blackshark AI processing the data to create lots of that scenery, and it’s learning and getting better and better. It will continue to as they bring in new imagery (like from planes too) and Asobo already said they are focusing on regions for the regular updates. So I don’t see where you’re getting ‘a decade’ from?
They are already busy, so you can’t just add work to them without other things slipping.
They’re the best default planes that ever existed… prove me wrong.
This was the question. And the answer is no. They are not the best default planes that ever existed. For the reasons I have mentioned.
@funkbrotha10 If these are your reasons then I think you’re looking at the wrong side of the coin my friend
The fact that the G1000 is basically in all of the planes, and it being the incomplete / mostly nonfunctional mess that it is. Takes away a lot of points. Serious IFR is pretty much useless.
I’m rooting for Blackshark, but not much on the timescales of Bing updates or World 2.0 updates. Those can take a really long time, atleast until they get to your region.
Let’s say they decide to work on World 2.0 updates, which is essentially improving a specific regions scenery manually, in the order of
In that case, it sure would be an arduous wait for our fellow Kiwis since they’d have to wait several months before Asobo gets to their region. Maybe the use of Blackshark could speed things up a bit, but not dramatically.
The benefit of gateway is that I can contribute with handcrafted 3D models of famous landmarks and scenery in New Zealand and submit them to Asobo today and have them out as part of the base sim in the next months update.
The whole point of gateway is to ease the workload of their shoulders. Quality checking a 3D model is definitely a lot faster than manually making a model from scratch.
It’s worked successfully for XPlane, I don’t see why MSFS shouldn’t benefit from this as well
I think you’ve done little to no research on how this scenery is made.
I didn‘t mean that they can (and should) model all the major POIs. My main point was to explain what I think is revolutionary about the sim and why MS/Asobo shouldn‘t focus too much on POIs. I think automated processes like blackshark.ai is the way to go. I only mentioned POIs because of the OP.
Some people are similar to that thing in a washing machine. I think it is called an agitator.
They like to say something so off the wall that it irks people into posting a reply.
+100 - It just needs reiterating that it was clear MS wanted the focus of attention on the release candidate to be on N. American and European regions, which is perfectly understandable, given MSFS’s traditional customer base. But Asobo have been at pains to remind us that they intend to make sure ‘other regions’ are not forgotten or left behind.
I think the reason Asobo have suggested map updates will be ‘regional’ is to placate their (let’s face it) vociferous N. American and European customers who might not appreciate why, in any given round of future map updates, their regions might not be included. Gonna be tough watching 3 months, 6 months, perhaps even 9 months roll by while Africa, Asia and Oceania all get updates…
I think people were expecting too much in regards to buildings and trees. I don’t remember them saying buildings, trees and other objects would be perfectly accurate. Especially if they were not hand made. It uses an AI to build stuff based on the images it sees. I think it does a pretty decent job considering what it is doing.
What was said to look great and accurate, and does in my opinion is the ground textures. They look pretty much how they should because it is actually satalite images of those areas. Some rural areas don’t look as good because the images are not that great, but they are accurate. For the first time in a flight sim I can load it up and roads, highways, structures, quarries and bodies of water are where they should be and I can use them to navigate around. And it isn’t selected areas that I chose to download and spend hours installing and probably had to pay for. It is for the most part the entire planet without any fiddling around. It is just there for me.
If you don’t find this amazing I don’t know what to tell you. If you want your city or house or whatever to look exactly like it does in real life then I guess you will have to learn to 3d model and import it into the game.
Hmmm. I take issue with this. I’m pretty sure Sri Lanka doesn’t look as ropey as great swathes of it is depicted in MSFS 2020. Or Borneo. And don’t even mention Northern China… (I could go on; this list is far from exhaustive). Once you venture off the shiny photogrammetry headliners of N. America and Europe and head down the byways and backroads of less visited regions around this virtual world you start to see the whole thing fall apart… I mean, you literally start to spot the seams.
