ReBar causing VRAM overusage and decreases available VRAM amount in MSFS 2024

I am running Radeon 6600 ..turned off rebar and hags in bios. I am getting 30-60 fps and decent photogrammetry…

In both sims, 2020 and 2024, without rebar or Sam, no hickups or stuttering. All very smooth.

Same issue and I didn’t see a way around it for a long time. Though it was not the sim but a reddit post for Cyberpunk 2077 that lead me to the solution because there I also faced massive overoccupation of VRAM and random FPS drops. Turning ReBAR off was the right choice. I actually don’t quite understand why it’s recommended to use it as the sim obviously is not the only game negatively affected by it. I use a 4080 Super but as I can see here it is not limited to a specific GPU brand, even if all the hardware geeks out there tell you it’s best used with an AMD GPU and CPU together. If it gives you a couple of FPS more, it’s not worth it - you pay with a much less fluent gameplay due to hickups and constant system RAM access because the GPU has to buffer.

i disabled the resize bar in bios and i brought my vram down. i had it on medium settings it till went over my 8 gig vram in scut secenes but on. e game started it went down to 4.36 gigs on high settings, I am getting 90 fps as well. So when the game restarts withe new settings to take affect we will se if true or not but it seems to be.

For NVidia users : NVidia disabled ReBar in default profile in the lasts drivers. If they do this, It’s probably because they’ve noticed issues in quite a few games.

As far as I can read here it is not related to the GPU manufacturer. To me it looks like an unholy alliance of an engine not capable of handling the technology as it should (because FS2024 ist not the only product) and maybe ReBAR not working as intended from scratch. I have the latest drivers and still, only deactivating it in BIOS solved the problem.

I turned it off and now MSFS 2020 runs very smooth.

I also noticed that Nvidia globally disabled rBAR in the latest driver version, 576.80.

yeah I noticed that, the msfs 2024 profile has it enabled though,i have no problems so will keep as standard, turned on

FYI, In the profiles for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024, rBAR is disabled by default.

Yes, utilities like GPU-Z state that rBar is ENABLED. But it is DISABLED by NVIDIA. In Nvdia Profile Inspector it should look like this:

Check both profiles, GLOBAL and MSFS. Don’t ever enable it in the GLOBAL profile! It can seriously mess-up your system.

Just means that rBAR is enabled on the motherboard side, not necessarily in the Nvidia driver.

Jayz2cents just put out a video about this the other day. These are the options you want to enable if you want to turn ReBar on.

I have a feeling it’s blocked in the driver for a reason. I’m leaving it as it is - disabled.

That’s what i’m saying. “But it is DISABLED by NVIDIA”.

strange then mine is ON, not sure if i put it on or not, but it works great in the sim for me, no problems and high fps

If you have no problem, simply keep it like it is.

Check out this Youtube from Jaystwocennts.

Below some of my screenshots on rtx 4070 super.

If you do this, do it only in the msfs-profile! Read the comments under that video. Jay seriously dropped the ball there.
