Recommend the best companion apps to use alongside MSFS2020

@IamPinback Thank you for mentioning this application. I downloaded the beta for MSFS and have loss some sleep scripting out flights. (It does more then that)

Doing a KERV to KSAT (touchngo) to KAUS (touchngo) back to KERV. I finally figured out how to do the land and taxi to the gate. However, I still run in the weeds when I’m turning. Haven’t figured how to fix that in the scripts.

Anyway, thank you for mentioning this application!! :sunglasses:

Idk. I only use the routing in the browser when flying VFR, so i do not ‘file flightplans’ anywhere. I just saw there was an export option.

Can you say complex things like “Tune COM1 to 123.44” and it will tune com1 to whatever value you speak ? or are you limited to “COM1 UP” “COM1 Down” etc

I’ve only just started to look into VoiceAttack myself, but I have seen that it can do quite complex macros based on your commands. Provided MSFS has a way to select the radio and input commands via keyboard, it should be possible.

There are certainly mappable commands in-game to allow you to input values into avionics using A-Z and 0-9 on the keyboard, but I don’t know which avionics support this input. You would instruct VoiceAttack to interpret your voice command accordingly, selecting the radio, issuing the “keyboard-entry” command, and then punching in the numbers.

So in theory it should be possible, but someone with experience would need to say for sure. If I have unintentionally raised false hopes then I do apologise!

I’ve seen some pretty impressive things being done with MSFS, take a look at this video:

I’ve only messed with simple commands replacing keystrokes, but that’s the easy stuff.
This guy has a ton of already defined voice commands to replace ALL the keymaps and some additional variables like, “set throttle to 70%” and such.

apologies if already mentioned but did not find FSWidgets on the list, see FSWidgets - Innovative Gadgets for Flight Simulator & X-Plane. It’s payware for iOs and not a bargain but one-time fee and still less expensive than a ForeFlight subscription. Remembered that I got FSWidgets some years ago to fly with FSX and saw that they recently offered MSFS compatibility, too. Helped a lot today for my first 3 legs of the Croatia/Greece bush trip to Split. Nw, don’t call me a cheater

Thanks! This is indeed very pricey :money_mouth_face:

I’ve added it to the compilation. From a cursory glance it does seem like these apps are supported worldwide (i.e. global airports), though they may be for an additional cost. Can you confirm?

I also just added the Class Echo to the list, which is a button box with a touch screen!

well, I just use the map function with iGMapHD for iPad which is pretty great TBO. connects easy to my PC and comes with loads of map “versions” i.e. looks like Roads, VFR Aero (world wide with US Class B, C and D), Roads dark, Terrain, Shaded Terrain, ESRI Satellite Data etc., all world wide. Plus it has various charts included like US SEC for contigous US, US HELI-R for 9 major cities, Alaska WAC, US IFR, New Zealand Aero, Canada ONC, Europe TPC, many European Aero charts by open flightmap and many more. You can even toggle weather data info like TAF stations, US Nexrad data for the US, world wide rain data, world cloud data, world wind data. The list goes on an on. But I just use the basic map funtion

This looks like a great add-on … :+1:t2:

Unfortunately, I have zero mechanical skills …

Do you know where I could buy this assembled and ready to use? Even perhaps find someone who could do a fee-for-service custom build?

Thanks… appreciate the feedback.

The original creator said they wouldn’t be selling complete units because that’d make them a manufacturer. See original comment here.

Hi GoldBadgerDog - I am the creator!

What GamerKingFaiz said is correct - selling completed units makes me an electronics manufacturer which produces a lot of challenges that I simply can’t afford to deal with for a relatively niche product.

I will say though that it is a fairly straightforward first-electronics-project. I have produced a comprehensive build video here that takes you through each and every step to build the device:

Maybe you can take a look at the video and then decide if it is too much for you. There are 9 wires to plug in, no soldering required, and I am here to support you in the build process if necessary. I think the only way to mess anything up is that if you were to a) wire something wrong, which should not happen if you follow the step-by-step video, or b) you were to tighten the display down so tight that it cracked it (I do take you through this as well in the video.

Always happy to answer questions!

Thanks for the feedback Paul … appreciate it. :+1:t2:

Unfortunately, I have a type of health disability that would prevent me from handling even this basic assembly. :slightly_frowning_face:

So, I would need to find someone “for fee” to do this for me.

Good luck with your venture.

You might be able to find someone willing to do it for you and ship it. Probably some etsy type person.

Navigraph is still in Beta for MSFS 2020 but it is working great and covers the globe using Jeppsen charts. By far the best as you get what you pay for. Works in FSX, X Plane 11.x, and now MSFS 2020. The flight planning is excellent and has moving map resident on your PC as well as a companion app so you can monitor your flight from anywhere you have internet. I sometimes load up a long-haul flight and run some errands all while monitoring the progress on my phone.

Thanks, but I actually ended up subscribing to Navigraph about a month ago. As it costs a monthly subscription I analyzed its worth with a very harsh eye.

I came to the conclusion that I don’t need the default $10/month subscription (Navigraph ultimate), which comes with the Charts program and the FMS data. While the Charts app itself is nicely developed, the monthly fee is too high when free alternatives exist (e.g. SimToolkitPro, LIttle NavMap, and FltPlan Go). Also ChartFox can be used for a majority of the worldwide charts.

It is really nice to have the up-to-date AIRAC though! I used their FMS Data Manager program to update SimToolkitPro, Little NavMap, and SimBrief. Now I can just use SimBrief to create the most sensible route, export to FS2020, and then use SimToolkitPro for live flight tracking!

If I do give Navigraph anymore money it might be for their yearly FMS data subscription ($30/year), but maybe I might be fine with the 2010 AIRAC for awhile. Would love to resubscribe if they lowered the price!

Thanks! I’ve added both of your suggestions.
