Unless you intend to go to a screen larger than 28in I would suggest sticking with 1440 would be the better option, save the performance of the pc to obtain a smoother experience. I have an IPs panel and it really does look good so would recommend that, g-sync and higher refresh rates would also be easier to obtain on a 2k machine.
As an alternative have you considered VR (if you don’t already have it), your system should provide you with a good experience in VR? Worth considering particularly if you like to fly low and slow in GA aircraft and perfect for flying helicopters.
The difference between 4k and 1440p is marginal to my old eyes. Most go for 1440p and widescreen (21:9 @ 120hz). I use a super wide at 5120:1440. I wouldn’t change for a 4k screen.
I have had 4k set ups in the past at 60hz. 60hz is fine for MSFS. It is not very nice for other stuff on the PC though. Remembering that if you limit yourself to 60hz then all your games will be 60hz.
My current monitor is only capable of 60Hz, and it’s fine for what I use it for. I watch movies on PC, so it’s good for that. I play MSFS/FSX/XP on it and have not had problem with it for those. Normal other stuff no issues either. The one thing I don’t like abou the big wide one is they cut down on the height of the screen, so it’s shorter and then wider. Going to take some getting used to the shorter height even with a wider screen. Plus cannot see in person the monitor I want to get, and not going to buy one sight unseen realizing the one in the box might have problem. Still want to see it so I can judge how it’s going to look and me sitting in front of it;.
I recently swapped from a 34" 75hz ultrawide to the predator x34gs. 2k resolution is the sweet spot for me personally between performance and clarity. I’ve had 4k monitors in the past. I limit to 60hz when playing FS and gsync to 30fps and it’s smooth as butter! This is on an 8700k oc to 5ghz and a 3090. Couldn’t be happier
I could understand someone skipping widescreen in favour of VR. I don’t use it myself. It should work well with VR from my gut feeling. I am fairly sure many have posted VR usage with much lower specced systems.
Well the RTX 3080 ti has arrived, and oh my i’m blown away by how much more powerful it is compared to my RX6700XT.
I’m deffo going to need to up my monitor. I’ve noticed FS2020 is smoother, but not a whole lot more fps, however I have cranked every setting to its max and still hit around 45-65fps and thats with lod at 400 etc.
@PotentialTERROR just completed my build with the 3080ti
Currently getting around 50-65fps but running 4K
So also getting a gigabyte G34 144hz 1440 so 34” would be plenty big. Your pc looks amazing
Barry
Thank’s very much, so I’m gonna be looking for an ips panel for sure as I currently run a va panel at the mo, and I’m not overly impressed to be fair. The aoc is good, but it doesn’t look stunning if that makes sense. Time to go shopping
I am looking into getting a new computer pretty much just for MSFS2020. It has an Intel 11th gen i9, Nvidia 3090 24GB, 32GB RAM and 1 TBSSD/1TB7200 STA. Yes it is Alienware. With this computer I cannot decide between a 32in curved Dell or the Samsung Odyssey G7 32 in curved. Any suggestions? beside seeing a shrink. LOL. Thank you
So what did you end up with Skyking? Looking at the SAMSUNG Odyssey G7 32 myself right now. I’m a bit concerned by the curve since it will be my daily driver and I do a lot of productivity-type work (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
Well, I went with the Alienware 38 inch curved monitor. First is because it is GSYNC which runs with my 3090 video card. 1 ms refresh and 144Hz with less of a curve. It was expensive but flying the MSFS2020 is almost as good as flying the real thing and costs a lot less. So far I am very happy with the monitor.
It is the B-B version according to the sticker on the back. I wasn’t aware of the different versions until now, but it sure is bright! That is good for me because my near vision isn’t what it used to be so the brighter screen is easier to read.
I have the 32" IPS 144hz RR, 4k Acer Predator. I am very happy with it. I initially got the Acer Nitro which was about $200 less but exchanged it for the Acer Predator for 3 reasons 1) The Nitro had the Freesync the Predator G-Sync compatible and I have Nvidia GPU and 2) The RGB on the back of the monitor really lights up my gaming environment and I do love RGB💖 3) The base is metallic and very sturdy! The Nitro had a plastic round flat base that was just waiting to snap or tip over. The image is excellent, great colors and quite bright to me @ max 450nits. Wow, what a step up from 24" and even 27" monitors. IMHO not too big not too small and for those interested in 4K gaming 32" is perfect and only need to sit about 2~2.5ft from the monitor and I can see it all.
At that resolution, do you have issues with productivity apps (Word, Excel)? I assume there is scaling and all that, but wasn’t sure if it can do “work” and game?
There’s a scaling option which is recommended to set at 150%. That takes care of icons and such like. In World and Excel you’d need to zoom in usually.
I just got the Gigabyte M32U, just came back into stock at Scan here in the UK. I had a fixed 60Hz 4k Dell monitor for work and once I experienced that I couldn’t go down. I just needed VRR.
I initially bought a 27" Odyssey G7 at which is 1440p but returned it in exchange for the Gigabyte which I’m really impressed with.
For MSFS I’d advise to go for the largest screen you can fit, and with a 3070 or 3080 you’ll have enough to drive 4k, usually well over 60FPS.
