Red Error Man Customize Identity screen

I installed the game on my primary Game Pass account. Signed out from the Xbox app, then still in the Xbox App, clicked the link to register an account from the sign in screen and added a second account. The game still runs on the second account.

Anyhow - check out this post, a reinstall followed by running the DeleteCloudSaves command has fully reset the game to the out of box config, then at first run it takes you to the character customizarion and red error guy is gone.

Trying it. On Xbox I didn’t delete the sim but did delete the cloud saves everywhere.

Yes! Thank You.

I can go into 'Customize Identity on the menu bar.

‘Red man’ issue on Xbox. Possible WORKAROUND.

WARNING: THIS WIPES YOUR FLIGHT LOGBOOK AND CAREER PROGRESS if you had amassed much.

Steps:

  1. With the game file selected, use ‘menu’ button, selecting 'Manage game and add-ons.
  2. Scroll down to ‘Saved data’. Press (A)
  3. Delete the save for your account (everywhere) and nothing else (not the game file).
  4. Restart MSFS
  5. On the menu bar, press (R) and scroll down to ‘Customize Identity’ which should now no longer be a red man.

Notes and warnings:

  • When I tried deleting/reinstalling the whole sim, the attempt was unsuccessful. This workaround relies on ONLY deleting the save file.
  • It worked for for me (and one other) but should not be considered ‘fully verified’ as it has also not worked for another poster.

Well done SofaJockey, I should have figured this out myself. Great simple logical fix. I really didn’t want to go down the line creating new accounts. People on Xbox this works

Is this working for Steam too? I guess no.

Hello, i found a fix for Steam version which worked for me (not guaranteed to work for you):

I deleted the %appdata%/Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024/StreamedPackages/ “Asobo-proceduralgeneration-…” folders (ALL OF THEM), turned of cloud synchronisation in steam, went into offline mode in steam, deleted “(yourSteamfolderLocation)/userdata/(oneOfTheFoldersIfThereAreMultiple)/(AFolderCreatedAfter19.November2024)” this folder (i think it has a different name for everyone) contains “remote”-folder an a “remotecache” file, so you can find it by that. Then i rebootet my PC, started steam (still in offline mode!) started msfs24, had to re-login into XBOX account, then when it came to the progress bar i had to go online in steam again. From then just normally proceed like it’s the first install.

NOTE: ALL YOUR PROGRESS WILL BE DELETED. BACKUP ALL FILES YOU WILL DELETE BEFORE DOING SO, SO THAT YOU CAN RESTORE THEM IF YOU DELETE SOMETHING WRONG. I’M NOT PROFESSIONAL OR ANYTHING! THIS IS JUST WHAT WORKED FOR ME

If you dont understand the instructions, just ask and i will try my best to help

If steam then asks if it should use cloud or local save select local save when starting the sim the next time, you can then also activate cloud synchronisation in steam again

I finally fixed it by uninstalling, deleting any remnant folders i could find, restarting my pc, and reinstalling, also going into srttings and resetting career mode

I have this problem aswell. I have managed to get airborne, when in external view I have the red man standing out of the cockpit.

Since then I only have the sound of the wind passing by.

Playing on the Series X.

I have found a work-around that worked for me. I had the red error guy and every time the sim was loaded it would put me in the middle of the plane with no controls, also it would CTD on the Customize Identity screen.

I am using MSFS24 on Steam so I very much doubt this will work for MS Store users. It’s quite long winded and also a disclaimer: I can’t guarantee this will work for everyone.
I’ll also point out that this will delete any progress you made in the game. Your save files will be gone - FOREVER.

Open Steam and in the top left of the screen click Steam > Settings > Cloud and turn “Enable Steam Cloud” to OFF.

Now uninstall MSFS24 through Steam.

After this go to file explorer and delete the following files and folders:
(If you are unsure about deleting, cut and paste them into a back-up folder on your desktop)

“Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024” Folder
Found in…
“Local Disk”:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Roaming\

“2537590” Folder
Found in…
“Local Disk”:\Steam\userdata\141360563\

“2537590” Folder
Found in…
“Local Disk”:\Steam\userdata\141360563\760\remote\

“2537590.json” File
Found in…
“Local Disk”:\Steam\userdata\141360563\config\librarycache\

“UserGameStats_141360563_2537590.bin” AND “UserGameStatsSchema_2537590.bin” Files
Found in…
“Local Disk”:\Steam\appcache\stats\

Now install MSFS24 again. DO NOT TURN ON THE STEAM CLOUD AND CHECK IT IS STILL TURNED OFF!

You should now get the Xbox log-in before the loading screen and the set-up button after the loading screen.

After you’ve done the set-up the Customize Identity screen should now show all the Avatar settings (no red error guy!) and you should be able to set up your Avatar and play the game properly.

Once you are on the main menu with a successful Avatar creation, now go back into Steam > Settings > Cloud and turn “Enable Steam Cloud” to ON. This will overwrite any existing saves.

Finally, once you have exited the game and opened it again you will get a Pop-up on Steam saying “Conflicting Saves” make sure you choose the LOCAL DISK save and this will overwrite the existing saves.

Like I said before it worked fine for me and I hope it works for you. Happy flying!

I did the same, cause I had the same idea but did not work…

That’s a shame… :unamused:

Do you have Instagram or sth maybe? I maybe have some more questions just if u have Time :joy:. That worked for me after deleting eolling cache as well

I finally found a working fix for this issue. I now have a character model and am able to spawn into career mode correctly. This solution is for Steam users only, please let me know if it worked for you!

This method is slightly different to @FGEJaymz posted above.

  • Ensure MSFS 2024 is closed.

  • In the following path: “C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\StreamedPackages”
delete ALL the folders that start with “Asobo-proceduralgeneration”. There should be 15 folders to delete in total.

  • Turn off Steam Cloud in Steam settings.

  • Go into offline mode on Steam.

  • Navigate to where Steam.exe is located. For me it’s “S:\Program Files (x86)\Steam”

  • Navigate into “Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\STEAM ACCOUNT ID\2537590” (Find your Steam account ID by using https://steamdb.info/calculator/)

  • Confirm folder “2537590” has a folder in it called “remote” and a file called “remotecache.vdf”.

  • Delete folder “2537590”

  • Reboot PC

  • Start Steam (Keep it in OFFLINE mode)

  • Start MSFS 2024

  • When prompted, re-login to your XBOX account

  • When the progress bar shows at the bottom of the screen (it should get stuck on 0%) go ONLINE on Steam

From here I was prompted to create a character identity like the initial install but It crashed again when selecting my characters outfit etc.
I launched the game mulitple times and this persisted.

I then turned back on Steam Cloud with the game closed and when it prompted me that there was a cloud conflict, I selected my latest local data.

After this I relaunched the sim another couple of times and then I suddenly had a character that was able to be customised.

I skipped the chacter setup in the rush to get into the skies. Now he’s everywhere.

I had this problem with the red man in Customize Identity, and a CTD if I clicked on anything in the Appearances list. What fixed it for me on the Steam version was to right-click on the game in the Steam Library, select Properties, then “Installed Files”, and click “Verify integrity of game files”. It found 2 files that were corrupted (no doubt through previous server timeout issues). Re-launching the game automatically downloaded these and Customize Identity then showed all the Preset avatars.

I started it this morning and went into customise identity and it was fixed without having to delete save file. So maybe just got lucky or maybe need to keep exiting and going back in until it works
