The Ducky edition is a collection of 25 mildly duck-themed classic liveries, 5 moving glareshield mascots, rubber duck cargo, and a variety of other enhancements and bug fixes for the default Flight Simulator 2024 Cessna 152 to make this classic aircraft shine and behave closer to the POH.
Requirements and compatibility: This package expands the features of the default Cessna 152 in Flight Simulator 2024. It requires that the Cessna 152 is active in your file library. Compatibility with other 152 enhancement addons is untested at this time.
A flock of features in the Ducky edition:
Electrical: Coming very soon in update 1.24.17: New electrical system that behaves closer to the real aircraft, with interactive circuit breakers.
Gauge lights: The 152 had a factory option for gauge cluster post lights. Check out the post lights by using the panel light rheostat below the yoke to turn on and adjust the brightness of the instrument lighting, and the 3-position switch in the overhead console to switch between post lights, red glareshield light, or both. Compass and radio panel displays hooked up to radio lt rheostat.
Ducky: CFI Ducky on top of the glareshield has 4 friends. Click Ducky to switch between them. Some of them glow in the dark so you can benefit from Ducky’s help in all conditions.
Ducky is not just fun. I find that having physics-based movement in the cockpit helps provide a better impression of the forces affecting the aircraft, making it easier to gently control the aircraft and keeping turns coordinated in the sim. It also helps with immersion, both in 2D and VR. Do you lock your wheels under braking? Just take a look at ducky barely hanging on, and you’ll make sure to relax those toe-brakes.
Cargo: Is your aircraft feeling empty and lonely? Load up some cargo using the EFB “payload and fuel” menu, and take a look at all your new friends behind you. There are three levels of visual mess for both cargo spaces in the back, and they are now limited to 120 and 40 lbs, respectively, as according to the POH.
Preflight: New engine covers and pitot cover. Replaced wheel chocks and enabled tie-downs. All preflight items can be put back in place after your flight by clicking where they belong on the aircraft. The remove before flight tags are using the physics based preflight tag system. The engine plugs and pitot cover now work independently, as they should, and the previously hidden tie-down straps now appear when the wheel chocks are in place.
Wheel fairings: Wheel fairings, also known as wheel pants, are installed on the aircraft.
EFB: EFB has been mounted on the windshield. It can be hidden by pushing the power button on the side of the device.
Cockpit: Dark cockpit panel for all liveries. Improved instrument radiant lighting. Behavior of OMI Marker audio panel behavior closer to POH, with test mode, dimming and audio knob on/off working.
Note on fixes and enhancements: As I started to look into adding features to the 152, I fixed several issues as I came across them. In many cases I have written bug reports for them, or posted the cause and solution to existing bug reports. Hopefully these will all be fixed officially and it will no longer be necessary to include them in this package. I therefore recommend you do not purchase this package for the bugfixes, as they should be considered temporary. Some have even been fixed in the default aircraft while I worked on this package. Links to the forum bug threads for many of these fixes are available on my discord.
List of new features:
- Dashboard ducks. Spring-mounted mascot on the glareshield. Physics-based animation.
- 25 liveries.
- Gauge (post) lights, wired to panel light rheostat under yoke, and a switch for flood/post/both in the ceiling.
- Added wheel pants/fairings and changed chocks to standard attachment system.
- EFB mounted.
- Flat gauge glass. As far as I can tell, it should be flat, and this also fixes the excessive default reflections. (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/c152-gauges-hard-to-read-because-they-are-too-shiny-incorrect-reflections/722077)
- Dark cockpit panel for all liveries.
- Improved instrument splash lighting.
- New engine cover and pitot cover, with physics-based flags, can be set independently.
- Compass and radio panel displays hooked up to radio lt rheostat.
- Visible yellow plastic cargo depending on cargo load.
- Cargo capacity corrected to 120+40 lbs, down from 297+297.
Unfortunately the C152 can not currently be made compatible with cargo career missions, due to a base aircraft configuration issue, but other career compatibility should remain the same as the default C152. - New in update 1.24.17: New electrical system that behaves closer to the real aircraft, with interactive circuit breakers.
Complete list of other changes (These may change with future sim updates as the default aircraft is updated):
- Animated cabin air flap (external).
- Tie-downs appear with chocks.
- Added ability to toggle chocks/tie-downs/covers both on and off.
- Windows open (but at the moment only affects ambient sound, not engine sound).
- Sun visors fold down.
- Enabled elevator trim tab deflection. (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/c152-trim-surface-is-visually-not-moving/744096/4)
- Slightly improved the “unstable” cockpit text. (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/c152-cockpit-blurry/671969/)
- Corrected OAT gauge to be correct in Celsius (still wrong in Fahrenheit). (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/c152-oat-gauge-indicates-wrong-temperature/750313)
- Fixed ambient lights in cockpit to make cockpit dark at night. (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/invisible-cockpit-light-s-c152-default-c152-aerobat/686305)
- Fixed inconsistent ADF display and turn coordinator. (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/c152-turn-coordinator-adf-fault/715690)
- Transponder knob animation wrap over from 7-0.
- Fixed LOD06 wings disappearing.
- Compass emissive numbers.
- CDI 2 course knob animation fixed. (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/c152-lower-obs-knob-not-animating-when-rotated/686671)
- ADF audio button works, and ADF mode BFO also has to be selected to hear the identifier.
- Behavior of OMI Marker audio panel behavior closer to POH, with test mode, dimming and audio knob on/off working.
