Welcome to Fort Crosby!
Fort Crosby (8AK5) is a private airstrip located 12.5 NM/23.1 KM to the Northwest of Talkeetna, Alaska. It has a single gravel runway with roughly 1500 FT/457 M usable, which makes it quite comfortable for most General Aviation aircraft. The only real restriction being on the Northern half of the runway where Dirt and Snow Berms (during the Winter) restrict wingspan and clearance.
Following in the footsteps of our previous releases, Fort Crosby has been brought to life in incredible detail, with a heavy focus on environmentals and dynamic features! It is the perfect companion addon for our nearby Chunilna Cabin Strip payware and Snowflake Lake freeware!
Features
- A coverage area of 2.5 NM²/4.7 KM², including multiple custom Cabins and Houses with extra details throughout.
- All model textures done in PBR, up to 4K resolution.
- Color-matched aerial imagery at 30cm/px.
- Digital Elevation Model with hand-crafted terraforming at 2m/px, and fully compatible with ORBX’s Alaska Mesh.
- Custom Gravel and Dirt ground materials with NRM textures for PBR and added detail.
- Custom environmentals including Weeds, Wildflowers, Native Shrubs, 3D Trees, Rocks, and Logs.
- Custom Hangar with dynamic features, interior modeling, environmental occluder, and a parking spawn.
Dynamic Features
- Animated Hangar Door – Triggered to open when your aircraft is parked inside of or just in front of the Hangar.
- Bears – Can be found crossing the runway and roaming the scenery. Will go into hibernation when temperatures fall below freezing.
- Butterflies – Visible around flowers from May through September. Includes 4 different Alaska native variations! Will not show when Rain or Snow is reported.
- Clock – Located on the back wall of the Hangar. Fully functional based on local sim time and plays ticking SFX (Wwise).
- Improved Lighting – Hangar lighting is functional from Dusk-Dawn and while Raining or Snowing.
- Morel Mushrooms – Pop up around the airstrip from May to July. Commonly found around Rocks and Logs.
- Rain Puddles – Appear when Rain has been reported in the area.
- Roof Snow & Icicles – 3D Snow & Icicles will appear on the Hangar Roof at 10℉/-12℃ and below or if it is Snowing and 30℉/-1℃ or below.
- Snow Berms – Snow Berms will appear around the runway at 10℉/-12℃ and below or if it is Snowing and 30℉/-1℃ or below.
- VFX – Smoke and Campfire VFX will appear throughout the scenery once temperatures fall to 50℉/10℃ or below.

Fort Crosby | v1.1.0 Update + Xbox Release!
This update mainly focuses on tweaks for the Xbox release of Fort Crosby. The hangar has been reworked to use detail textures for the cement and metal siding, greatly increasing the texture resolution. 3D trees and low poly shrubs have also been reworked to use groups, eliminating nearly 3000 placement drawcalls.
Xbox Series S/X Users
Fort Crosby is now available on Xbox, but know the following before purchasing:
Xbox performance has taken a huge hit with Sim Update 13. Due to the detailed nature of this airstrip, even with optimization the Xbox currently struggles to manage memory which can result in a crash if operating out of the airstrip a lot in one session. Nothing can be done on our end to fix this – I’ve spent a month experimenting. v1.1.0 with the latest version of Emerald Object Library reduces memory usage to nothing - sub 200 MB, nearly 3000 drawcalls have been eliminated, and premature optimizations have been removed.
This has improved stability substantially, and I am hopeful that this improves further in the near future with the coming updates to MSFS. It should be noted as well that testing was performed on Xbox Cloud, which (supposedly) runs Series X hardware. Users on the Series S may have a less stable experience.

Fort Crosby | v1.1.1 Now Available!
This update brings a few changes to material blending on the hangar, new roof snow detail textures, as well as a few fixes to LOD vertex colors. It also introduces a few of the new pathed animals that were introduced for the upcoming Twentyfive Mile & Limber Lake Airstrip scenery. Don’t forget to grab the latest Emerald Object Library update!
The update is now available from your ESD account. The Marketplace version has been submitted for testing.

Fort Crosby | v1.2.0 Now Available!
This update brings some new dynamic sound effects, including a new electric hum and light switch toggle sound that comes on with the Hangar lights, and native birds ambient sounds scattered around the coverage area.
Alongside these new features, several fixes are also provided, including one fixing the long-time hangar door animation snapping issue! Snow features have also now been tied into the snow depth slider!
Don’t forget to grab the latest Emerald Object Library update!
