[RELEASED 9/26] Flysimware Sierra C24

In my personal opinion it’s a bit expensive for what it is, especially without any systems depth and failures. We have Black Square with cheaper planes that model hundreds of systems that all can fail. This is just my opinion though and I’m sure the quality of everything else is superb. Also I did not give it a rating on the marketplace.

Good point, I was asking myself the same question

What brings down the average is a couple of 1-star ratings. I can’t imagine the plane being so bad. I’d understand if the average consisted of 3-4 star ratings but it’s not the case. So what I assume is either a technical issue or trolls. Even if the add-on lacks failure simulation, everything in there looks as realistic as it gets, from visual modeling to sounds to the amount of avionics options. I’m baffled because such high quality planes aren’t usually rated this low, regardless of price.

This aircraft has a similar depth as the other flysimware aircraft, so no tear&wear, no failures, some persistent (like fuel capacity), but no serious flaws (at least as I found). And they already provided an update to 1.1.0, so I expect support as usual from this developer.

The flight model is (IMHO) very good, the sounds are okay (and you have clickspots for headphone mode), so all in all its a pretty plane in a crowded market. And, as already mentioned above, the price seems to be a bit high, especially considering the competition for this class of aircraft.

Not sure on the XB ratings(maybe still trying to figure out you have to hold the starter key?). I bought direct this time as it’s one of the last going into 2020 and going to 2024 I didn’t want to have to ‘wait’ on anything. If it were around for 6 months, probably would of just gone MP.

It’s kind of unique in the envelopes for anything of higher quality.

Piston/Steam/yoke we have WB152, 172(or the Reims, etc) which are mods to stock aircraft, then this vs the JF Pipers, then the Comanche in the next performance tier above it, then the executive class is still pretty barren with just a BS Bonanza mod and another couple ‘okay’ Carenados Mooney/V35. Can’t 'believe after all this time there’s no definitive 170-200KT cruiser. I guess it goes ‘up against’ the Arrow Turbos, but those are turbos? Closest other aircraft would be the 182RG, probably, which is honestly pretty satisfying for one Cessna that breaks out of the 172 barrier. I’m not a big fan of the sausage-press so frankly I like my Archer II for a putt-putt(my father owned one) and don’t feel like getting a whole conveyer belt of variations, already have the hoard of Cessnas. (note to FSW, find a buddy on the apron with a 177…).

Glass-only is a well-worn path, even 2024 is loaded with more of them. This can still flip over to glass anyway and not just a GTN filling a hole, the G3X w/GNS and GTNs is a nice touch. It’s slow enough to get a lot of proper practice with all these setups. I think it’s pretty unique in the monster stack of aircraft I already have. And I like FSW’s unique artwork of gritty but with sharp crisp edges.

My guess is the low reviews are probably from some black screens on Xbox. The Flysimware posted on their discord their texture developer accidentally used 8k textures which is causing the typical memory issues. He is hopefully his marketplace update goes next Thursday.

Well, I have one minor but for me annoying problem with the plane in flight: the plane seems to continually roll to the left no matter what I do. Even if I activate co-pilot, passenger, and luggage on the right side of the plane, which should at least counter balance the left roll, the plane still rolls to the left. In fact, if I turn off weight sync, which seems to activate the default weight/balance screen, empty the left fuel tank, and completely fill the right tank, the plane will still roll to the left in flight. This shouldn’t happen, should it? The plane itself doesn’t seem to have any rudder trim.

I don’t have foot pedals at the present time, which is why this is a bit annoying (I have to keep continuous pressure on the throttle twist grip, which has a strong spring).

I really like the plane otherwise, and can use auto pilot, but I like hand flying a GA. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Another livery for the great Sierra :grinning:

I’ll have one ready soon as well based on this C23 Sundowner 180

I hand flew it again for a few hops around(still haven’t flown a flightplan with it yet-been short on time). Feels great in all aspects but will again say the tire ground rumble sounds need to be halved, the engine sounds great but on touchdown sounds like it has skids with my butt-brations… Also the trim seems so extreme and is a bit tough to trim out, climb trim at ~950fpm is something like 45%. It was pretty gusty getting tossed around but really felt like I was chasing it a bit too much. Quickly took up the 182RG as most Carenado are a bit TOO easy to trim(except the C195-cripes!), was definitely getting jostled but trimming was substantially less workload. I think the trim has too much authority, will try halving the axis sensitivity to see if it’s wound up a bit too much, it’s definitely a busy servo when holding ALT in AP. I honestly didn’t check COG with near full tanks and two up front, may need a little junk in the trunk.

Isn’t this quite normal for single props? The Wilga does the same. It’s the torque of the engine causing the plane to roll to one side. I don’t know if the Sierra has rudder trim but that could help you.

I didn’t notice anything abnormal. The FM seems very honest in the wind and the plane has a lot of dihedral. Maybe check wind direction?

Thanks for the replies. I did manage to sort of fix the problem. I forgot MSFS has it’s own default rudder trim key assignments that will work on any plane, even those without dedicated rudder trim controls, like the C24R. However, they’re very sensitive and fiddly to use. But they do work, with a very light touch.

Still, I may go over to the Flysimware site and ask about it. As said before, I otherwise really like the plane.

So after a couple of days diagnosing why every time I loaded into the Sierra I would get graphical tearing(appraently my system doesn’t like 8k textures with everything at Ultra), I finally got to do a problem free flight! My oh my what a cracking little plane! Reminds me a nice mix between a Bonanza and the Comanche.

One thing, this plane has exposed that my Bravo has an axis noise. With that I am constantly getting the throttle lever noise for a couple seconds after moving any of the 6 axis on the Bravo.

Can we have an option in the EFB to disable that sound?

I have that too with my Honeycomb Bravo. I think it should be reported to Flysimware.

Ill throw it up on Discord!

“There are sound pack updates in the next release” and “Consider adjusting your reactivity settings to see if you can minimize things until the next release.”

This still has the 8K textures with the update?

No new release yet so unsure if the 8k textures will still be apart of it.

I tried adjusting my reactivity settings to see if I could quite the axis noise but no avail. Might finally pull the trigger on spad to see if the delta command through there can quite it up.

Expected update on Thursday for MP

“The G5 unit will have larger text. Thursday Xbox X series users should be ok as we removed the 8K textures.
More updates coming.

I was just curious as I have the first update version from a few days ago. The plane does feel a bit frame rate heavy all things considered.
