[RELEASED] Aeroplane Heaven Cessna C-140

Aeroplane Heaven - You’re virtually there.™ Curtiss C-46 Commando

not to confuse anyone - this was not developed for MSFS (yet) I would just love to see that happen

I got the C-46 from Just Flight for P3D (also works in V5) but wasn’t aware of it being developed by AH.

that was made by AH - if you look through the JF product page for the C-46 you will find references to AH buried in the text.
Not sure how their agreement worked - seems JF marketed some the AH planes as AH and some as JF

Many of the aircraft released by JF were AH designed. Only in recent history (Comparitively speaking) did AH significantly expand their “in house” line.

Yeah, Just Flight’s Lockheed Electra is one of P3D’s default aircraft. It’s pretty good and a handful to fly. A little intimidating with old-school navigation only.

Just for interest sake here is a link to the the FSX/P3D version from Aircraft Heaven …

The C-46 would be an instant purchase for me.

I flew this probably more than any other aircraft in FSX - just a terrific model inside and out.
Getting the props harmonized and the trim set for cruise was just a hoot. The cockpit in any lighting conditions was a thing of beauty and it included some very fine liveries

That was in FSX too? I flew it last night again - what a blast it was. I really want it here.

I considered it to be their best effort myself - along with the Grumman F3F biplane.
I never had a chance to try the C46 but would happily buy it along with the rest, for MSFS if they would decide to make them available

That Canadian ( CF-TCC ) example… I got to experience the real one in June 1999. Air Canada was offering flights around Toronto. What a beautiful aircraft it was. Now if only I could find the video I took that day!

It has been released

I am very much looking forward to buying this. Sadly I cant use PayPal so will wait until it is on other stores. Looks very well done. Congratulations to the team on their 1st MSFS release. I hope to see many more from them.

Here are my 1st impressions…
I am sorry to not have any screenshots to go with it, I just got pulled in and forgot to take any, probably doesn’t help this was a fairly late release (time wise, I share the same time zone as the devs and it hit the virtual shelves around 10pm… it’s nearing on midnight now!)

I have just spent the last hour or so with her and have to say my first impressions are GREAT!
[For note, I was flying the bushwheel version on this flight]
The model is very beautifully put together and animated, she really feels at home in this sim! Great views out the windows to enjoy that lovely scenery we are gifted with…
She is a simple bird, only a few things to pull and press in the 'pit… so… it’s quick to get started and get up in the air (plus, for those wondering, yes, there is use of the in-built checklist  )
One thing I really like is that the G1000 is selected by a switch… this is perfect! For those like me, just don’t depress the Avionics piano key and you won’t ever have to know it’s there… for those who want some modern equipment onboard just press the switch and enjoy that glass…

The flight dynamics feel good, I haven’t been in a 140 before so can’t really comment how accurate it is but, it does feel “right”. I had some fun putting it into some stall spins and that reminded me of doing those IRL, so good job there! The feel is there to know all my turns are coordinated or not, so that is nice to see that accuracy! Really reminded me of my time (albeit not too many hours and no tailwheel time… yet) of flying similar sized aeroplanes. This really checks the box on FDE for me, part of which I think is why it was such an engaging flight and can’t wait to take it for another short spin before bed!

The sounds are lovely, although, you don’t get any wind sounds when opening the windows, also the sound isn’t directional, leading me to believe it is using a ‘legacy’ soundpack (not Wwise)… which after having a look through the files it does seem this may be the case?
I also notice some sounds looping… which aren’t extremely bad but, it does stand out a lot to me. They do also seem a little too loud overall. (ATC voices are very quiet for example)
This is a pretty small nit-pick as I was having so much fun in this little bird the small annoyances really came and went, I just want to put it in this 1st impression as it was something that I noticed.
I do want to make another note that it is really nice to listen to! Sure is a lovely engine.
(Even if the quailty isn’t exactly as I would expect for the price or this day and age, IMHO)

One bug I have noticed (there is always at least one in a new release, nothing is perfect  ) anyway… that bug is that after about 20-30mins (I wasn’t timing so this is a rough guesstimate) the battery completely died on me, something to do with the alternator I would assume. (There isn’t a switch for it so must be something in the code not quite right)

Overall, this thing is gorgeous and would definitely recommend it to anyone after a good simulation of an old, small GA taildragger! I was feeling a little hesitant on the price (AUD$40) but after that first hour, I am glad I spent it! I hope to see the little things with the sound addressed (at some point, not a biggie) and a hotfix for that alternator/battery bug asap, but neither of those are at all a deal breaker in my eyes!
I honestly cannot wait for the DC3 to arrive or for any of their future MSFS releases for that matter!
I’m just super happy to finally have an AH aircraft in my MSFS hanger, I have loved their work dating back to their very early releases… back in the day…

Hopefully this bird will bring as much joy to you guys!

EDIT:
A few screenshots to add…
Some nice static equipment can be selected while parked, a nice touch… although I just noticed the chocks seem to be within the tire on this bush version! They must be universal between the 3models and do align with the normal tyre versions (can see in one of the shots bellow)
If you look closely in 2 and 3 you will spot the key fob… yep, its animated and floats around as you’d expect! Would be cool to see the same with the curly cable too though… (to note, the animation of the keys seemed to stop when the electronics died, which seems odd to me)
Another thing I forgot to put in before is that when editing the pilot weights, the external view doesn’t change. i.e If I have no weight set for the co-pilot they are still visible when viewing from the external view.
As you can see the textures in the cockpit are what I think, very well done, really matches the great work done externally! I haven’t spotted anything that draws my attention even when turning around and looking where I normally wouldn’t… behind me. Good stuff!

(If like me you were wondering what those 4 little ‘directional’ arrows are next to that beautiful valve radio… after a quick poke around… It turns out its from the G1000 controls that has made its way onto the (base?) texture.

Another quick edit:
After another hour and a bit with it… I am beyond happy with this purchase! Other than the electronics dying (which only is effecting me with radios tbh, and when I’m cruising along low and slow this hasn’t been a real big issue for me, I also noticed the keys are animated to the turn indicator which dies with the electronics hence the animation stopping) and the nit-pick on the sounds… I have now got a new favourite to poke slowly around the skies!
For the longer hauls I can enjoy the wonderful PMDG DC-6… If I am feeling some legs longer than I would want to do in the 140 to tour along I have the JF Arrow… Everything else (except maybe the BBS Islander) will be taking a back seat for a while I think.
All that was missing was something old school to do some nice relaxing slow flying and that hole has been filled with the amazing AH C140! I’m one happy chap!

Bought this just now… Will have a chance to fly later this afternoon. I will post some screenshots and impressions then.

Hmmmm… this one or Carenados (Alabeos) C170?

I have the Waco from Carenado in this sim, though I do have most of their stuff in the older sims… I don’t think I’ll be getting anymore from them at this point in time anyway… They may be great to look at but, they just aren’t as “fun” to fly and feel more sterile overall, IMHO.
I was interested in their 170, it’s my type of interest in AC… but, then this got announced and so the idea of purchasing the 170 disappeared…

Long story short… I personally think this one…

Oh, my goodness, why on earth would anyone turn on those Garmins in that beautiful cockpit??

(rhetorical question if anyone is wondering, I really don’t want to know, blechhh  )

Couldn’t agree with you more

Cockpit engine sound is overly loud and bass-y. Any way to adjust just the engine sound in-cockpit?

Otherwise great fun, I Used to own one IRL.
