[RELEASED] Avitar Series | Got Friends

What would be the best way to submit ideas to your team as far as new breeds of dogs to add to Mans Best Friend?

The community will be able to distribute repaints, same as an aircraft livery. Works in the same fashion. Our friend and beta tester Airpac is already doing some magic behind the scenes. We left the clothing in higher resolution so anyone can repaint as desired.

Oh, you may have started something here. If we pay them $50, will they re-colour an existing animal to look like our pet?.. Hmmmm, I lost my beloved Jack Russel Terrier five months ago (the one in my forum picture)… Says he getting out his credit card… I’m kidding of course… Pause… Feels the tug at the heart yet again… No I’m not so sure I’m kidding after all…

Regardless, what a great development. I am looking forward to all your releases. Splendid addition to the Sim.

Can you clarify if they replace the existing characters there, or add new ones? My understanding was that it was not possible to add new ones, or has this been solved by you?

Does anyone have a list, or at least some examples of airplanes that utilize this? I presume GF’s own aircraft all do? Presumingly no other planes do as this hasn’t been useful until now?

They just turn up as new options in the pilot and copilot sim settings alongside the Asobo options. Any plane you can currently see the Asobo pilots in you’ll get the same outcome with these. This is based on my experience with the product, I’m not affiliated.

Thanks. It’s good that they don’t replace, I’ve long wanted more characters.

Looking forward to this, although personally I’d be more inclined to pay for “normal” characters instead of WWII. Hopefully more will come.

I would imagine, any developer that cared enough to implement this (or at least a partial solution if the Asobo rig couldn’t bend properly) on a product they expected you to pay money for. If a product you own does not have this, I would consider emailing the developer and asking if its possible to impliment it in an update. For a developer to add IK support for the default sim Asobo characters that shipped with the sim over 3 years ago, all they must do is add four tiny little empty nodes and name them as per the SDK documentation. We’ve even seen freeware that support it.

Adding to the conversation above so there is no confusion:

Yes, this has been solved. It adds to the Asobo Character set. It does not replace.

Any aircraft that already displays an Asobo Character will work exactly the same. I personally haven’t generated a list of aircraft that don’t use Asobo Characters, but the Ant’s Tiger Moth does come to mind as I think I remember that using a custom pilot only. Almost all aircraft in the sim use Asobo’s Character System. Some aircraft like Flying Iron’s F6F have multiple pilot selections like their WW2 Pilot or Asobo’s Pilot. You would need to turn OFF their WW2 Pilot on the EFB in order to see a Valor Pilot since it is “technically” an Asobo Pilot.

Our goal is to standardize the Asobo Character System so that developers start using the tools provided in the SDK. By giving the focus of Character Design to Got Friends or by creating Avatars themselves in a proper manner, they can focus more on aircraft design and less on including a quickly done pilot in their projects that only work with their aircraft. We hope that the release of Avitars is greatly appreciated by the growing development community. This saves everyone time, allows them to explore IK Chains properly and gives them the ability to focus more on “their” project instead of pilot models if they so desire. As of usual with Got Friends, if any developer needs help in this area, they can download our freeware Avitars and dig through the coding and setup needed in order to build their own. We always leave our projects unencrypted so that they can be torn apart and inspected. Same goes with our aircraft! Some of our freeware like the Lake Skipper and even our April Fools '23 Aircraft utilize IK Chain animations that any aircraft developer can inspect to see how they are utilized. They can import that 3D Model and learn from those examples for free as well. This is how we improve the sim together and highly encourage developers to see how we’ve done something in order to save them time.

Cheers!

Lame, something Got Friends should not have wasted a minute on.

Dev time is never wasted when you’re pushing whats possible in the sim, and making stuff people have been asking for. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello @Dragintail5603,

Not every addon made be each developer will appeal to all simmers equally. If you are not personally interested in this type of product, then you can simply choose not to buy it. The only people who can state if making this addon was a valuable use of the developers’ time is Got Friends themselves.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Your reply was a lot more diplomatic than mine might have been, if I had made the bad decision to comment !!

That is why he is a Community Manager and you are a… manual writer? :stuck_out_tongue:

Am I too much of a grumpy old man (in spirit that is, I’m in my thirties) that I don’t recognize any of these streamers?
