[Released] Baron 55 by Carenado

Personally going to wait for the Baron 58 Professional from Black Square but I know that many like Carenado products and I haven’t seen this mentioned here yet. Not much info other than a single screenshot from their Facebook page. I believe this is only the second Baron 55 I’ve ever seen for a flight sim.

Presumably this will launch before BlackSqaure update the 58 for 2024. In which case I’ll take it. The last few Carenado releases have been pretty good so I’ll be happy to have this for £20 or so.

Nice! I’’ll be happy to have both Barons when the time comes. Different models for different missions.

What a beautiful machine! I really like Carenado’s recent releases like the F33A and Piper Dakota, they are great! Wishing them the best of luck with B55!

It’s fascinating how many aircraft produced over 60 years ago still look strikingly beautiful. Unlike the cars of that era - often styled for visual flair - aviation design was driven primarily by function and aerodynamics. And when form follows function, it often results in timeless beauty that never feels outdated. The Beechcraft Baron is one such aircraft - its design feels eternal.

I used to fly the Baby Baron for a living, so I’m looking forward to this one since it’s unlikely that Blackbeard will ever get their act together on theirs, and in any case their FSX/P3D had a weird attitude in landing config. So good on you Carenado!

After their excellent work on the F33 and 210, I’m actually quite excited for this one!

It’s released. I have not been able to map my controls, like their not using the standard variables.

Noticed in a screenshot that it has an Aspen PFD. How well is it simulated?

Wow. Happy Friday!

Sigh. Looks like they upped their prices by to $24.99.

Hoping they take a break from the civvie stuff and release their T-34.

Sounds don’t seem right at all to me. More like my washing machine on a spin cycle.

I’m just surprised you’re able to make qualitative judgements about the engine sounds over the top of the bangin’ tune in that clip. I couldn’t make out much myself.

From the clip? I’m flying it.

I’m considering buying it - what’s your opinion? Would you recommend it? Especially if you’re familiar with their other aircraft like the CT210N and F33A, how does the B55 compare to those?

Oh right! So, apart from the sounds, what do you think?

Feels a bit rushed to me. The flight model is odd, seems extremely light and twitchy. As well as being weak, the sounds don’t quite correspond to the change in power settings as I would expect. Don’t know. It looks great of course but to me, the F33 and 210, even though they also have faults, are better. I need to spend more time with this one but so far, I’m lukewarm and I was hoping to fall in love instantly.

Engine sound is not what I expected. Some controls don’t use standard bindings but can easily be bound to what Carenado uses. I wasn’t able to lock on an ILS. It’s a bit nervous on elevator and ailerons.

It looks great, though…..

Clear glass mod already for those who don’t like the Carenado tint -

Not had chance to fly it properly as work getting in the way LOL. Did a quick cold & dark start up taxi out and take off. Really like it but thing I noticed was with window open the engine sounds are not loud enough for my liking. Sounds could be better but first impressions so far is I like it.
