[released] Consolidated B-24 Liberator

The B-24 Liberator and DC-4 Skymaster by Flight Replicas, originally for FSX/P3D have been converted to native 2020, and released as freeware on flightsim.to:

please note:

A converstion by third-parties of the original Flight Replicas B-24 Liberator and DC-4 Skymaster made for FSX/P3D, for use in MSFS. Conversion not commissioned or done by Flight Replicas. Please note: not perfect, expect some anomalies, and some items won’t work, but very useable. As Flight Replicas will not be re-visiting these aircraft, we have given permission for the conversion to be made available for all.

And I’ll be uploading additional textures over the next few days, like these:

My experience is pretty far from “very useable” in FS24. The layout.json files were made incorrectly so they wouldn’t load initially. After fixing that, the B-24 causes a sim crash from selecting it in the main menu and nothing is clickable inside the cockpit in the DC-4

Having to run MSFSLayoutGenerator.exe after downloading to make it work, isn’t what I’d call compatible. In my book, it’s not compatible with FS24. I also found that it’s not very usable. Nothing works in the cockpit for me either. Oh well, that’s why I don’t go for FSX ports.

Ha funny, for me absolutely nothing worked in 2024, which is why I stayed with 2020. I paid a lot for it, but got a refund. This one is at least free, ànd works fine in 2020. Looks good too

The B-24 is really amazing. I hope someone is able to get it working in 2024. This will hold me over until a B-17 is released.

Are the cockpits for the B-24 and DC-4 clickable in 20?

Largely they are not. I am working through keybindings now and between keys and Flo I have most of the essentials bound in 2020. The fuel tank selection is challenging - see update below:

UPDATE: Ok I got it. You need two keys for tank selection

Key1: Fuel Selector 1 - Right Main, Fuel Selector 2 - Right Main, Fuel Selector 1 - Left Main, Fuel Selector 2 - Left Main

Key 2: Fuel Selector 1 - All, Fuel Selector 2 - All.

Key 1 switches all engines to Mains, Key 2 switches all engines to Aux tanks.

Note: The above is for the DC-4, in the B-24 the above bindings are: Key 1 - All four tanks, Key 2 - Aux tanks only.

Not yet figured out - Cowl Flaps bindings move levers for engines 1 & 2, but outside the cowl flaps for engines 3 & 4 open. Doesn’t seem to affect engine temps though, I’m planning to largely ignore them.

I only use MS2020 also but for me, these not quite functional conversions from FSX etc are just not what I’m willing to use. I know a lot of people don’t mind the shortcomings and I don’t knock that at all. I hope one of these days to have full or near full B-24, B-25, and B-26 simulations for MS flight sims -or in a combat flight sim of some other make..

Thankyou so much for realising this! They still look fantastic and the repaints are splendid! Very much appreciated.

By chance, I discovered that you can open the bomb bay with the L key. Has anyone figured out how to extend the lower turret?

CTD in MSFS 2024 for me too, every time I select the B-24 in the aircraft selection screen. I tried updating layout.json with MSFSLayoutGenerator, but it hasn’t helped. I also tried removing all of the included liveries except the “base” livery, leaving a simpler aircraft.cfg - i.e. only [FLTSIM.0], but it still crashes.

Fingers crossed this can be fixed, from the screenshots it looks pretty awesome!

I was able to get the B-24 into MSFS 2020 and did a short flight with it. Not too bad for a conversion, would like to see the C-87 variant done so I can follow Ernest Gann’s footsteps and simulate flying a particularly cantankerous C-87 across to Karachi and over the hump and try not to hit the Taj Mahal in the process.

I could not get the DC-4 to show up at all. Tried to run layout generator on the layout.json file and got some messages about it not existing. Opened the layout.json file in notepad and saw one of the first lines is manifest.json which didn’t seem right so changed it to layout.json and still couldn’t get it to show up. I really don’t know a lot about messing with that type of file so if anyone has ideas I’d love to hear them. I’d also love to add the C-54 to my hump flights, I’d have a pretty much complete roster then.

What is your “L” key binding? For me, and I have to lookup my own binding as well, my “L” key opens the doors on the DC-4 but does nothing on the B-24. To be fair, I only tried one of the earlier model Liberators with the rounded nose. Perhaps the bomb bay is not animated on that variant.

My “L” key is “Toggle lights” (Lichter umschalten, I use the german language in MSFS 2020).

And it only affects the B24J model with the ball turret under the belly, like the “That’s all Brother” variant.

I had the chance to dig into it last night, and I’m happy to confirm L: “Toggle Lights” does indeed work for me on the late model. Wonder why it doesn’t work on the early model.

Does anyone know what is conflicting with the B-24? I just got it to work in 2024 after disabling all of my addons and community folder. Thats whats causing CTDs.

I don’t know precisely, but these conflicts are often down to a cockpit mod where assets are shared…

Just tested the B-24 in 2024 with a redone layout file.

Loads in fine and oh my - what a fine plane.

I would gladly pay to have this with:

  • A clickable cockpit

  • A way better and prototypical flight performance (rudder is soooo strong!)

  • PBR textures

but it has PBR textures? Well, my repaints do.

Okay, wrong term used by me. What I meant is bump mapping for rivets, wrinkling etc.
