So the brakes were not touched at all in this update?
I thought they were going to be toned down a bit (ie; less brake force), as a few of us had raised issues with the faceplant behavior with button braking.
eg: in response to my previous q on this:
I’ll test it out and see. I have a V1.0.3 video documenting button brake behavior (good, bad, and faceplant) so can compare pretty objectively - more or less!
Ran some tests on both settings, much better. Can still faceplant if you’re not careful, but wider latitude for slowing down with button. Authentic is fine with a twist stick T16000M too.
Tarmac seems to have less friction than grass++, as even on idle with Tarmac you need to keep the brakes on or you’ll move forward.
@Baracus250@Zwen0416 You don’t need the beta prop to slow down, you can do very short landings as is with button now, as it’s less prone to faceplant or weathervane. Also, unless you can map those buttons to auto switch to beta with one press it’s pretty much impossible to use beta on landing as the workflow (at least for me) is impossible to do on final.
It’s not as simple as hitting a reverse thrust button and use throttle as with current turbines like Porter, Caravan, PacX, Kodiak, or Caribou (radial). I have no spare buttons so need to use mouse, but change camera angle, find controls, etc etc, while in a crucial approach phase, then time the switch to beta you may as well just crash to start with😂
In any event, with a little practice it’s just flaps, angle, slow speed, brakes all you need. Beta seems more for ground reversing needs.
We always strived for complexity and realsim on the DoubleEnder, but it was (and still is) a balancing act in order to maintain those features while offering beginner and simplistic options as well. It gets a little crazy at times, especially when you’re juggling various hardware compatibility…
I’m really happy with the feedback so far. Our team worked overtime in order to facilitate this ground handling overhaul. It’s humbling to see positive feedback. It’s encouraging to know that our updates are heading in the right direction. Especially with such a weird aircraft like the DoubleEnder.
I guess I could turn the nobs to beta and flip the switch, and when on the ground switch from auto to manual. The aft propeller could be featured during approach. I haven’t tested it yet and am definitely eager for the MP update!
Guys i’m a noob in distress, not a real pilot, so forgive this question if it’s simple for most people. How do i calibrate the altimetre on the double ender? On every other craft i push B and it corrects itself, but not on this one, how do i do it? It’s starting to bother me not kowing if the altimetre is thousands of feet off, when it comes to accuracy.
You can set the switch to manual while in the air on final approach but keep the front prop in idle until you touch down - reverse while in the air is bad news. You can control thrust with the rear prop on final.
On the main Engine Data Display Page, push the SCRN Button to show the digital gauges, including altimeter. Once there, Right Click (or Left Click on Legacy) the MVP-50P Knob to enter calibration mode. Then rotate the knob by scrolling your cursor to adjust the altimeter. Finally, click again to exit. Cheers.
I remember that game! That was cutting edge 3D at the time
I know what you mean about the 3D pictures too. I could only ever see them in reverse (crossing my eyes rather than looking “beyond” it) so the objects to me looked like looking inside a jelly mould rather than jumping out towards me.
But it’s a weird feeling, once you “see it” it becomes very sharp, and then even when blinking or looking away and back you still keep it in focus. I recall it feeling like a strain to try and get it to work but as soon as it “locks in”, felt like you can relax and then it was almost impossible to lose it again for a while. Weird stuff?
I’ve got my Bravo set up with two throttle levers and that’s it. One of my switches is set to Set Recognition Lights, as recommended, to toggle the flight directors. Anyone else doing anything fancy with their Bravo using the Double Ender? Outside of Spad and LVARS and all that? The twin prop computers and rudimentary fuel system seems like they kind of render most other Bravo functionality obsolete. Very mouse clicky airplane. Not a bad thing. Just wondering what others have found in order to be a little more hands off the mouse.
