Anyway suffice to say as soon as I got close to starting the approach the plane started a turn back the magenta lines turned back to white, and the plane just started fly to wherever.

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it? No. (Xbox Series X) Have you disabled/removed all your mods and addons? I don’t use add-ons.
