Looks like another nice scenery from IniBuilds… but with a nice price, too! Don’t expect a review from me anytime soon… I’m still using MSFS solely (despite owning FS2024). I wonder if Ini’s 2024-exclusive sceneries are as demanding on hardware as their 2020 counterparts?
I purchased it but I will have time to fly there tomorrow. Except Dubrovnik I own all IniBuilds airports for both sims (I’ve been using MSFS2024 exclusively since its release) and their Premium sceneries for FS24 work smoother for me than the sceneries for MSFS2020 (but it’s probably contributed to a performance boost I experience in MSFS2024 compared to MSFS2020 on the same hardware). I could see it with their KJFK released a couple of weeks ago - I remember it was kind of a slideshow in MSFS2020 for me while it’s much smoother in my current sim even with AI traffic enabled. I can’t wait to try EGKK tomorrow.
Much as I like iniBuild’s airports (I own several), I can’t see how this could be any better than mkvy’s freeware version, which is absolutely spectacular. (Or at least not $30 better.)
So my first flight there today and it’s a very nice airport indeed. Yes, the price is steep but sooner or later it will be on sale and in a better quality/price ratio to the freeware version. Performance-wise it’s, I would say, average and just what I would expect from IniBuilds airport of this size in the busy London area.
Thanks for the report and the screenshots!
I own all airports from Inibuilds for MSFS 2020 and 2024, but to be honest I’m not entirely convinced by Gatwick. In any case, I will wait for a sale. I see no real reason why the scenery is significantly more expensive than comparable airports from the last few weeks, some of which are of even better quality. Inibuilds makes good, solid airports, no question about it. But in contrast to other developers, I don’t see much progress at the moment. That doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing if you are already one of the absolute top developers. But Inibuilds is not in the top ten for me. Pyreegue, Jo Erlend Sund, Drzewiecki, Flightbeam, Flytampa, MK Studios, NZA Simulations, Verticalsim, Digital Design, Northern Sky Studios, flyt simulations, Impulse Simulations, some Orbx Indie Devs. In my opinion, all these developers make better airports than Inibuilds. Why? It’s mainly the mediocre building textures and the sometimes rather poor performance that make the difference for me. At more modern airports with lots of glass, such as Dubrovnik, the average textures are less noticeable. But Gatwick in particular cannot keep up with the photorealistic textures of Curitiba, San Francisco or Southwest Florida for example. Many buildings look too artificial and clean.
Please don’t get me wrong. Gatwick is certainly not a bad scenery. But I don’t think the very high price is entirely justified. Especially as there is a really good free version of Gatwick. And I really think that Inibuilds should work on their texture quality.
