RELEASED! Just Flight Bae146 "the Little Jumbojet" April 29th

I got the same email. Assume it was an over-eager or forgetful mailing server shooting it again

This is not true. It’s the second time I hear this mentioned so I don’t know who is spreading this. Tilt does not work and it doesn’t look like this is using anything other than the standard MSFS WX radar API.

From the JF forums: WX Radar in the BAE146 - is it really working as expected? | Just Flight Community

I never said they didn’t. But it’s not included in JF’s package and the repaint is for a reg. that was in fact an RJ85.

Martyn from JF posted this on the day of update, two posts above your post on that day

Flew the latest version tonight, just a quick trip & haven’t flown anything for a while. Noticed:

  • Tiller steering is very sensitive at slower speeds, so much so that if I max my tiller controller ( it’s the twist on a 3d mouse atm ) the steering goes right round & actually stops steering again. Makes turning round at runway ends a less than smooth operation, slower taxiing is also not great.
  • Had to taxi around an airfield at night, in quite heavy rain, which I don’t think I’ve had to do before in this, wierdly enough ( I’ve definitely landed it in the rain before
maybe the lighting was better ). The wipers don’t clear anything off the windscreens. Ended up sticking my head out the window ( head tracking + lock ), not ideal.

Otherwise all seems to work like it already did.

Regarding the wipers, the sim itself doesn’t have any support for wipers dynamically clearing the windscreeen of precipitation. None of the stock aircraft actually have “working” wipers either, which is a real disappointment in the rain. Maybe JF can find a way to override that or do some sort of trickery to mimic it, but as it currently stands it’s not something the sim can do. Unless you’re saying they did work at one point and now they don’t.

I think what we’re both saying is that we got the same (looking) email notification twice.

Thank you for clarifying that! My info came from this video, which states:

One of the standout additions in this update is the introduction of a brand new weather radar system. For avid simmers who value realism and accuracy, this is particularly exciting news. Now, many might be surprised by this, considering a lot of the community believes a proper weather radar isn’t actually implemented within Microsoft Flight Simulator. However, some rather learned individuals in the community suggest otherwise. Apparently, the weather radar feature within Microsoft Flight Simulator does support conical, vertical, as well as horizontal modes. It’s just not too straightforward to implement for third-party developers. That’s what the problem is. Just Flight happens to be one of the first to properly use it in their add-on.

Do I understand correctly this is a bunch of bs?

Not entirely, the WX radar has been supporting a topview, horizontal and vertical mode for a while. It’s a long standing myth that it only supported a topview. The radar cone angle can also be configured. Tilt is however NOT supported currently in the SDK, so devs cannot implement it.

As for which mode is implemented in the 146 I don’t know (topview vs horizontal/vertical), but it’s definitely not the only/first plane that implements the WX radar with these modes.

What the WX radar API does not offer is direct access to the raw data, so any kind of advanced radar features or device-specific visualizations are not really possible. Devs can only show the radar return images the sim provides them (except for some coloring options). That’s why it hasn’t really been added to most of the deeply simulated airliners as it wouldn’t look/behave like the real thing for that type.

I don’t remember having to uise the wipers before, as I said. If they don’t work on any aircraft ( I can’t remember using them on anything else either! I can see in the rain just fine, normally ) then that is a disappointment and pretty ridiculous - working wipers have been a feature of sims for many years at this point. From the SDK description of how rain works I can’t see a way of fudging it with an animation either.

I’d recommend viewing this wishlist item to add input on functional wipers in the sim: Functional windshield wipers

On the FlyByWire A320neo the wipers do push the rain off the glass. (I’m using the Development version)

A few planes have functional wipers, think it requires some custom coding. I know the Wilga by GotFriends has them.

Here’s a wishlist item for working wipers in general:

Second training flight short hop exeter-aldergrove . Hopefully catch the glide slope this time :crossed_fingers::grin:. Awesome plane

It’s about a week since I last flew the 146
Today’s flight from Edinburgh (EGPH) to Stansted (EGSS) reminded me why this is my favourite plane. I can’t believe that this is on Xbox (it is on Xbox and I am using it on Xbox and all of the screenshots and photos below are on Xbox- just to be clear :joy:).

Conveniently you don’t need to change the ILS freq for either end!

Is there any chance to get the cabin crew removed from the cargo versions? ideally replaced by a half asleep loadmaster, but just removed would work

and when he is not sleepy he is yelling at the loaders: “no no not this one, the other one goes first” :joy:
