Released: MD-80

Question… I have no idea with all the varients of the md-80s but now reading about them on wiki… there isnt exactly a 737-100 vs 737-800 difference…
But the Md 83/88 are not exactly different to the 82 barring one with extra bang in the engine and the other has more of a modern flight deck…??
Just got a new pc and my target of thr MD-82 is set in my sights…
So would I be best to just buy this new one that’s coming out and get the slightly more modern aircraft vs the 82 or is it going to be like the crj??? Need the 500/700 before I could get the 900/1000?

In P3D it was an add-on so i’d expect it to be the same. So the MD-82 would be required to get the MD-83 and -88 anyway. But yeah there isnt that much difference between all of them compared to 737s or something, imo the MD-82 is already good for most stuff.

With every update they announce I always hope to see the bullet point about a graphics or sound overhaul of this otherwise fantastic airplane :slightly_frowning_face:

Cheers for that mate, totally forgot about the pd4 simulator, just had a look, base package 114 and the expansion 30…
Thats not too bad… Hopefully its similar pricing with msfs…

Yeah I got a wee bit of a shock reading on wiki totally expecting it to be like the crj 700-1000 with much variation but nah… not at all… just range, power and pfd upgrade.

Yeah, for more variation there would be the shorter MD-87, B717 or DC-9s possible, or the more modern MD-90s if you wanna have it look a bit more modern inside. But since Leonardo already did the same thing in P3D i didn’t expect any difference there.

I am by no means a MD expert, but the MD-88 should have an updated cockpit, with more “glass”.

Thats true but the Maddog MD-82 is already updated to the 2nd image, i got no idea what the exact differences between the MD-83 and MD-88 will be. (not that I wouldn’t like to see the MD-81/82 with less “glass”.)

Oh, i see. Yeah, it has already the updated cockpit in the sim. Dont own it yet, might get it maybe.

Nice pictures though. I think Ive read somewhere they modelled it after the Alitalia ones? No idea. Maybe someone can explain the exact differences between all of them.

Earlier MD-82s would have had analog instruments but Leonardo modeled a later version with the glass PFD and MFD. I believe the 83 and 88 model offer optional aux fuel tanks for a higher range and have a more powerful engine option. Basically just the 82 with more range and payload capabilities.

I guess its released?

Ok. I’m doing this. Preparing to look dumb. I hope you all can help me

My father worked on DC-9s most of his career. Over 35 years.

I’ve been googling my behind off trying to understand the proper MD-8x relationship to the DC-9. Anyone have info that explains how they’re all related?

What’s the right MD-8x to fly that’s a DC-9?

There’s no MD-80 thats a DC-9. The DC-9 is a MD-80. The official name is DC-9-80 and so on. The only comparable aircraft in length would be the MD-87, that should be close to a DC-90-50 (but that one isnt in the game). There was a Youtube video series released some days ago by some Youtuber that explains it i think. There it is:

Just a heads up for anyone purchasing the expansion pack, you’ll have to redownload the new installer for the MD-82 first to see the 83 and 88 in the load manager. I was scratching my head for a while before I realized I needed the new version of the load manager.

Thank you!! Great info!

Yeah took me a few to figure out why I couldn’t get the 83/88 to show but redownload it and worked.

This plane will never go the CRJ way. It’s been around since 2006 (some players weren’t even born yet) and it still sells. The CRJ was just a stop gap while there was nothing better. They rely on the systems fidelity for its success. The gauges and mcdu are very good and legible and the cockpit sounds are good too. The rest is passable. Great fun to fly though.

I dont know what it is with this plane I cannot land it always bounces on the runway even on autoland. Maybe me but plenty of experience in other jets . Hand fly the 737 in all the time. No idea what I doing wrong.

looks like my landing weight is incorrect after a saved flight . everything else saves ok .

Just bought this (MD82 not the MD88 expansion). After 3 quite immersive flights in all I can say is what a fantastic aircraft. It’s really well done. Just the correct blend of analog/digital, nice FMC, working VNAV, simbrief integration. It feels different to every other aircraft out there and tbh, the texturing complaints seem a tad on the harsh side. Just don’t pixel peep, there really is no need to. :mag:. I think this has gone straight in at #1 for me just ahead of the F28 which I love flying too, but it doesn’t have a FMC (yet).

My only gripe with the maddog is lack of Navigraph map integration in the EFB (which strangely Navigraph said was coming ages ago) but it’s not a biggie for me. That and the livery manager seems like it should do more as liveries are not downloadable via the interface).
Can’t wait to learn more. I remember traveling on these in the rear seats next to the engines in the early 1990s (AA I think).
