[RELEASED] Miltech Simulations CH47D

I just want to say how much I am enjoying the Chinook. I also have X-Trident’s on X-Plane and ED’s on DCS. So I guess I am just a fan of fat, ugly flying machines. This one (along with the boats) has be a particular joy. Xbox with Elite 2 controller and it flies just fine.

FWIW, I am a helicopter pilot, but just small stuff.

MILTECH SIMULATIONS AND FS2024

“There is a good reason for the delays…” “Something big is coming soon…”

Now we can finally comment on it!

Introducing the Microsoft-Miltech Simulations C17 Globemaster III for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition! For the past 8 months we have been secretly working on that has become by far the most ambitious project we have embarked on. The C17 Globemaster III is most versatile cargo aircraft to enter the airlift force, and a key logistical assets for many airforces around the globe. We had the opportunity to create this incredible aircraft for the upcoming MSFS2024 and I must say – we are incredibly proud of the result. This is by far the BEST product we have ever created. I know you will have many questions, so I will answer a few here. Bare in mind, this is very much still an active development and we are still under NDA, so there are questions we cannot respond to at this time.

Will it be free?: It will be included with the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Premium Deluxe package at no additional cost. Other paths to acquiring the aircraft are up to Microsoft to decide.
How complex the simulation is?: There is a very good level of depth. As you may understand, this being an aircraft in actively military service, there are areas where classification does not allow a deeper simulation. However, all displays and systems are very well represented.
Can it carry cargo?: Yes, several cargo load options are possible, including various types of military vehicles, presidential limos, helicopter fuselages, pallets, etc.
SOUNDS?: 100% recorded from a real C-17, and in collaboration with Echo19.
XXXXX is inaccurate on the Screenshot: This is an old image from several weeks ago. The project is not completed. The images do not represent the final product.

Now, with the elephant in the room out of the way… we now have to address the OTHER elephant in the room: CH47D.

If you look closely at the announcement, to the right of C17 you will find our beloved CH47D. Well, I have to inform you that unfortunately this is NOT our CH47D. In fact, we were completely unaware of it until now (Yep, working with MS for the past 8 months and zero info with regards to this announcement – information is kept confidential to minimize leaks).

Regardless of this, we continue working on our promise to provide FREE UPDATES of all our existing catalog of products, including CH47D, to MSFS2024; and will continue to leverage all the new features the platform will bring. Miltech Simulations’ CH47D will continue to be supported and updated for years to come. Nevertheless, working on the Wokka has been a great pleasure for us, and has served as testbed of technologies that will become part of many of our future offerings. We are in fact partnering with this developer on various projects to come – however, we have no connection whatsoever with the CH47 Project.

What about U2 now?

Well, as you may imagine, C17 took a lot of resources away from U2 for a period of time. These resources are now back to work with the U2, and we are expecting significant progress in the upcoming weeks. I cannot say if this will release before or after FS2024 – but given the amount of content coming with the new sim, we may decide to reorganize our pipeline without prior notice.

We recently got information that one key feature we were missing on the U2 is properly introduced on FS24, so that’s also an important factor to consider.

And… Now what?

Time to continue working on the 5 or so aircraft we are working on… ah, and the Refueling Pro module

Welp, I guess that settles the question of what tier I am going to purchase!
Premium Deluxe it is because there is no way I am missing out on a MilTech aircraft lol.

Nice! Looking forward to it. Sign me up for a good C-17

Also, I wonder how your CH47D will compare to the Asobo one.

super exited! but where are the support cars?

Let’s all hope and pray it’s not coming from Nemeth. :crossed_fingers:t3:

indeed it’s blackbird

very cool C17! do you have any plans or insight to a UH60 Blackhawk coming?

I ran across this thread over on the DCS forums and I find the information within to be very relevant to the discussion around the CH-47 flight model. The explanation of the different systems, as described by an actual CH-47 pilot, is worthy of a read. It really shows the complexity of the aircraft, as well as just how many different systems work together to make it the stable machine that it is. At the end of the day, I really feel like the flight model that we have now results in the machine behaving quite like the real thing does on a consistent basis. The real thing is extremely stable. Anyway, worth a read!

That’s a great quick read of the Chinook systems - thanks for posting. This is already a great aircraft in MSFS - going to be great watching the further development of systems.

Previous feedback to this point seems to indicate that your position on this topic remains an outlier, but I wish you all the best.

I was so excited to see a C-17 in the base sim and even more excited to find out that your company was the dev behind it. Bring on 2024!

Great thread, thanks for posting. The same author recorded a video pointing out some inaccuracies shortly after our product was released. Interestingly, he provided positive feedback as the flight model is not too far from reality.

We have discussed this before - we achieved stability by fine-tuning the FM values until it was dampened and stable enough, and only achieved utilizing a non-natively tandem FM. Contrary to the real counterpart, we have no active stabilization acting on it. This was a design choice for various technical reasons, and the results are good, but not perfect. However, over 95% of people seem to like it, and that’s enough to consider it a success.

I’m now quite curious to see what’s coming on the new FS24 CH47. Active stabilization is really the only way to stabilize a proper, native tandem FM implementation.

MILTECH SIMULATIONS FS24 STRATEGY & ROADMAP

Refer to these slides for our official strategy and roadmap for the upcoming FS24 release. ✈️

Prepare for a deep dive into what lies ahead!

Would also like to start a discussion… would you prefer seeing a CH47F or a CH46 in the future?

I’d prefer a 47F over the 46 since it has a “glassier” cockpit and thus differentiates more from the current 47D.

I’d prefer a CH-46 as we don’t have any version of that aircraft at all. Plus, the CH-46 is still used in the civilian sector, while the CH-47F is military only at this point in time. It would be cool to use the CH-46 in the career mode in FS2024.

That’s awesome to know this is a native upgrade, rather than just a smaller compatibility update. I’ll be downloading the update as soon as it shows up on Contrail!
