Released: Orbx (by Finn Hansen) Stavanger Sola ENZV (FS2020 &2024)

Finn posted in the thread concerning the ‘other’ ENZV (released today), confirming that his has just entered beta testing.

At this point, I think the only advantage to the Ironsim rendition is the inclusion of city POIs. I’m not sure if either version is FS2024-native.

I use the freeware ENZV on flightsim.to and IronSim ENZV on my PC, switching in and out on a whim and as a Norwegian developer Finn Hansen’s past airports on ORBX, am of course picking up his ENZV upon release-contrast/compare!

Any reviews of ORBX Stavanger Sola ENZV coming?

How does it compare to IronSim’s renedtion that has the citty POI that ORBX ENZV does not feature and the freeware?

Bit expensive for me at full price so no forthcoming review from me. Ironsim’s is currently discounted, to about 60% of the price of Finn’s version. Finn’s looks marginally better but Ironsim’s doesn’t look bad, to be fair (and includes city POIs).

Looking at the screenshots, this looks pretty mid. Am I crazy?

I bought the airport and I like it. The modelling is top-notch, with great textures and animated airport traffic. It features custom GSE and excellent performance. However, there are absolutely no people (inside the terminal or on the landside), and I’d also like to see more cars in the car parks. This makes the landside look a bit deserted. To be honest, I’m a bit surprised by the decision to leave out people and, to some extent, cars. If just these two details were added, the airport would be almost perfect for me. As it is, it feels a bit unfinished.

I agree, it would be much better if there were people in the airport! Think I’ll have to go with Ironsim! Does anyone know what city features are included?

Yeah that’s a strange decision, especially at an airport of that size. Hopefully there will be a patch to add som more people/life. Was planning to get it, but will wait a bit and see how it develops.

I’m also really hoping for an update, especially as placing a few people and cars in the scenery is likely to take a couple of hours rather than a couple of days. And it would massively enhance the airport in my opinion.

That said, I’m pretty sure I prefer Finn Hansen’s modelling of the buildings and the airport overall. I’m a bit bothered by the fact that, in Iron Sim’s version, the grass at the airport shows the very blurry satellite imagery. I much prefer the terrain in the Orbx version. Overall, despite the lack of people and cars, I’m happy I opted for the Orbx version. And I can well imagine that Finn Hansen will release an update in response to user feedback.

I’m inclined to agree that, overall, Finn’s is of higher quality — however Ironsim’s does look to be a step up from their previous work and, despite the inferior modelling, it does seem to tick all boxes: surrounding POIs, fully-modelled landside, custom GSE (though not animated), plenty of people airside/landside, etc. If I’m honest, I’ve always found Finn’s texturing slightly sterile in appearance but there’s no doubt Ironsim’s is worse. Where Ironsim have the advantage is in the price since theirs is currently on sale for £7 less than Finn’s. I’ll be getting Finn’s eventually but will happily wait for a discount. In spite of the lack of people, his I imagine will be the more accurate rendition.

Have raised a ticket with ORBX asking for people and cars to be added to ENZV in an update, will post the reponse I get.

They’ve passed on feedback about no people in the terminal, the lack of cars landside.

Hmmm. ‘Orbx’ and ‘timely updates’ don’t usually go well together… :open_mouth:
