I guessed 7 and was pretty close. I’m gonna give it a go.
Well, this is bloody difficult lol. I tried with live weather on and the wind wasn’t helping so after god knows how many attempts I just put it on the ‘few clouds’ preset and tried some more. Almost made it one time but then bounced into the stands. Also please don’t ask me how I ended up like this, thankyou.
Hahah good effort!
Yea it is surprisingly tricky. I had a 4kt headwind in the direction I finally managed to set her down. Really got to slam it down to give enough straight space ahead to brake in time. But also not pull the stick back coz she goes up again all too readily
It did indeed look very difficult, i like the one where it looks like you’re going to end up in the changing rooms Good job
Finally did it! Well kinda. I recorded my attempts so you be the judge
I did start out in live weather but there was a 12 knot wind blowing me about which made things a bit too interesting so I gave up on that after a few tries and put it on the ‘few clouds’ preset.
Nice one man - thanks for making that video - was super fun to watch! We could have started something here
I like the the full engine cut technique (…so peaceful without FS Realistic!)
There were some interesting attempts and outcomes!
I liked Attempt #2 actually - pretty graceful pirouette back down to the ground
The backflip off the roof on Attempt #7 was pretty nifty too!
Attempt #9 was very familiar - that is almost same as all my attempts and similar touchdown to my success. Also happened a few times to me where it just floated away too much when you think you’ve done it, but no.
So the final verdict… yeah, it’s OK I think going through the goal posts and bottom row of seats takes some style points away but good landing after that!
SCORE: 5/10
Borat approves
It really does take some patience and coaxing to get it down without picking up speed so that approach seems to be the way but I wonder if it can be done more suddenly and aggressively until the final touchdown. I want to see Craig do this - he should be expert. Your turn @RaraAvisSims
I think the next challenge to take it to “Pro Level” is for us to come in from the roof, one circuit around to spiral down and a perfect touchdown without unnecessary “laps”. Easier said than done, but we’ve proved it is possible?
When I was doing touch and goes yesterday on a normal airfield I found that cutting the engine kinda helped with the ground effect floating and was hoping it’d help out here as well but didn’t seem to do much. It’s fun doing it though, kinda like I’m in a WW1 bird blipping the throttle although with mixture and starter switch instead.
It was good fun doing that. I’m tempted to try it in some other birds, maybe the Flying Flea or Zippysport could do it? Or what about the Zenith STOL? That thing can get in and out of anywhere. Are there other stadiums we could try? The possibilities… Xtreme Stadium Landings! Could be the next big extreme sport
And I second the call for Craig to show us how it’s done.
I like that train of thought. A world tour of stadiums in multiple aircraft types. The possibilities are indeed endless! There are a couple of nice stadiums right next to each other in Sydney and actually a boatload around the world - often well modelled as POI’s. Have to say that Aloha is the deepest I think I’ve seen though so we literally started at the deep end!
Gonna give it a try in some other planes now you mentioned that - for sure!
Wilga springs to mind. At the risk of digging a hole for myself, I think that will be an Attempt 1 pass for me
Sorry for the Off Topic!!
(Wilma was too fast and cumbersome to do the spiralling, but other techniques work!)
Had a go at some more stadiums today. Decided to try somewhere a bit closer to home so had a look at the UK POIs and found a few stadiums dotted about. Started out with Everton at Goodison Park. I thought I’d be able to quickly do that, dash over to Anfield and quickly bag that then fly off to Old Trafford and complete the treble before moving on elsewhere but these footy stadiums are a right pain in the backside, let me tell you. Might not be as steep as the Aloha Stadium but Aloha opens up into a nice wide bowl you can fly about in, these footy stadiums are like shoe boxes you have to drop in to.
I thought Goodison was hard but then Anfield was twice as hard. Old Trafford was also a pain in the ball sack but I got there with the assistance of the roof and the net Then it was off to Villa Park which took some attempts as well. Another problem these stadiums have is the collision mesh is not very forgiving. Aloha is a lot superior in this regard.
After that I decided to pop down to Cardiff and the Millenium Stadium but I had a problem there. Then I was getting a bit tired of all this so decided one final stop at the Memorial Ground, home of Bristol Rovers. “Who?” I hear you say. Well they’re my local team so I decided to give them a visit even if it’s not a custom object but just rubbish photogrammetry. There’s a few more stadiums to try, mostly in London, but I’ll save that for another day.
So here’s a rubbish video I made showing the landings and some failures. There were many more failures you can be assured, but I didn’t fancy making an hour long video of me crashing the Bulldog over and over.
Maaateee, that was an epic watch!! Super stuff!!! I actually LOL’d a few times
Nice sound effects you added hehe - crowd went wild!
Some great moves there. Especially like the roof assisted goal. Max style points there! But I guess it’s not a “pure” one cuz of the roof-rest-stop
Best one was that u-turn and float down at 02:15!
Glad the side entry at Villa was blocked lol. And yeah pretty annoying how mismatched some of the colliders are.
Great first “try” in Wales too! (“Bl*^}%y roofs closed” hahah). Thanks for making that!! I’ll try and do some more next time I’m on I like this game
Patiently waiting to join the fun whenever this ends up on Sim Market, or the Marketplace. Hope it won’t be long!
I’m having issues with Sim Market at the moment… still waiting for MS
Challenge accepted ! LOL
Had a go at a few. Will save some up and make a compilation video at some point soon
Tried Sydney Soccer Stadium… really bad collider mesh there. Not fun, probably not possible. I fell in once and landed on my wheels in quite a cool way, but nope.
The cricket stadium next door was quite easy (low). Managed another couple - one pretty epic one, but a lot weren’t as fun or good looking as Aloha.
I think we were lucky with trying Aloha first. Precise enough colliders, looks awesome and a real good deep challenge. The hunt continues!
Always chasing that high that Aloha gave us I’m sure there’s something else out there comparable. The Yanks do love their big open dome style stadiums so might be some more decent ones on the mainland.
I was flying the Bulldog around Scotland earlier. I had Orbx Great Britain North running and found Pittodrie Stadium in Aberdeen modelled. I flew around it a bit but it was the end of an hour and a half flight and I didn’t wanna ruin it by crashing into a stadium so didn’t make an attempt and found a normal airfield to land at instead.
After the many, many, many attempted and a few actual landings inside stadiums yesterday, landing the Bulldog ‘normally’ felt very strange. The plus side is that I’m quite decent at flying the thing quite slowly in a controlled manner now!
Yea it’s good practice! I did an almost hover land on a regular grass strip earlier - 8kt headwind and I must have only been travelling forward about 2mph if that and gently put it down. Was slightly uphill too, so stopped instantly
This looks fantastic
It is - highly recommend it if it tickles your fancy. You won’t regret it!
Come and get on the Xtreme Stadium Landings World Tour bus!
