Released: SoFly Bristol EGGD

Just released. A little on the fence about it. On one hand, it’s the newest version available, while existing versions (PilotPlus, UK2000) are a bit stale.

On the other hand, it’s SoFly. I’m not so sure about them.

Trailer:

It actually looks very good. Apparently their Cardiff is excellent. FS2024 only.

I admit, it looks pretty good in the video. And the trailer itself is also pretty good, too many trailers recently just show a lot of stuff, without showing you the stuff you really want to see. How does it look at night? How does it look in the snow? So that’s :+1:

I’ll wait for a few further impressions from people - I wouldn’t mind a nice rendition of this airport. I’ve got the PilotPlus version from Orbx, but with PilotPlus basically out of business and Orbx being glacially slow with ‘24 updates, I don’t have high hopes for further updates or improvements.

I’m going to buy this once I get home today. I own Cardiff, Ohrid and Hannover from SoFly and they’re great imho.

I’m not sure if they have different teams for different projects but some of their stuff looks poor, and some amazing. I must admit, looking at marketing images/video of Hannover, I can’t get excited by it. But I always though Ohrid and Cardiff looked good.

PP’s EGGD is already marked as 2024-compatible but that just means it’s been tested, with no major flaws noted. That might not even have necessitated input from PP themselves. Who knows if they are still actually communicating with stores?

I have a friend who beta tested SoFly’s EGGD (a local to the airfield) and he says it’s top drawer.

Are they? How’s that?

I’m happy with the Pilot Plus version which works well in 2024. This will have to be considerably better to tempt me.

Not out of business in the sense that they’re bankrupt or anything, but they’ve not updated their website for over two years, and have ceased all communication and support. Orbx MIGHT have been in touch with them recently, re FS2024 compatibility, but that would have been a very brief correspondence simply asking them to test their products and label them accordingly (which Orbx themselves could have done, without input from the dev).

In my opinion, Aviationlads produces the most beautiful MSFS trailers. As mentioned above, he chooses beautiful angles that show many of the small details of a scenery. And I also like the slightly cooler colours in his videos. When he creates trailers, as in the case of Bristol, I think the promo images also come from him. You can see this quite clearly because the screenshots have exactly the same colour scheme.

Aviationlads has even managed to make Aerosoft’s Milan Malpensa look much better in the trailer than the actual product. That’s why I’m curious about Mhron’s feedback on Bristol. I also like the airport in the trailer. However, I find the textures a little too clean.

Yeah they’re pretty good, overall. I have seen a few where you have a 2 minute video, and they spend 30 seconds of that focussing on cool shots of a landing airliner.

That sort of thing always bothers me. The less they show of the actual scenery, the more I’m suspicious of it.

I interpret that as a sign that an airport may not have much to offer.

I’ve just found out that atm it’s only available via SoFly’s store and IniBuilds, coming to other stores on 17th of November. I much prefer Contrail over IniBuilds store, so I’ll wait. My first impressions coming later then.

To be honest, PP’s will do me for now. Works fine in FS2024. I’ll likely get SoFly’s but in a future sale.

Substantial update just released. This was a solid scenery but just lacked a bit of polish. Hopefully this update makes it shine a little brighter.
