Render Scaling @ 1080p

1080p flyers, what have you got your render scaling set to? I’m at 130.

I’ve seen a lot of users say 1080p should stay at 100 render scaling, but I found the aliasing at 100 is awful, and increasing to 130 is about the sweet spot for a small improvement in anti-aliasing vs performance. I do have TAA on but the AA is just a little shotty at 1080p regardless - anyone else?

Running a Ryzen 5 3600 and 2070 super.

I’m at 180 using an RTX 2080 Super and i7 10700K. The sim looks good for me and I’m using mainly High Settings with 1 or 2 Ultra settings. Performance wise all good but looking at the figures on MSI Afterburner my CPU is around 30% usage and GPU at 100% when flying around New York in a glass cockpit Cessna. This will give me about 50fps. Putting the scaling down a few notches will give my GPU a bit of breathing space to around 95% usage.

Yeah, 1080p is quite bad for MFS, everything is more blurry. 4k is where the game really shines.

100 with a GTX 1070, since performance suffers with anything else (except in CPU bound planes).
I just ordered a RTX 3080 though, so I expect to go with 160+ until I buy a 1440p monitor (black friday)?.

Using 100 too, and graphics do seem at some point a bit blurry and cloads are at some angles bit jittery, but i am still using an older GTX1080ti on an acients 1080 60Hz screens, and still saving up for a UHD and kinda biding my time to see how the new AMD’s will preform against the new 3000 Nvidia’s before desiding what GPU i buy.

120% gives a clean and stable picture for me. Have to scale it back to 100% depending on the area to maintain a locked 30 fps though.

Some outlets recommend something like 50% of 4K to use the image reconstruction with TAA, might be worth testing but it seems to be conflicting with enabled virtual super resolutions in your driver settings. Disable those first.

If that 3080 comes in, let us know how it goes! Would be interested to hear how the 3080 in 1080p is.

Yeah unfortunately my 2070 super is relatively so I will be skipping the 3000 series, maybe see how it goes with the 3x supers whenever they come out. I found 100 way too jagged, have you tried upping to 120-130 at all?

DSR makes MSFS horribly pixelated, tried using it and it hated it. What do you mean 50% of 4k? Interested trying something new! I know I’m nit picking but man I hate the little jaggies at 1080p.

I’m so used to it by now, i hardly notice it…

Only i have to avoid my mates UHD screen, 5mins on his PC, and i hate mine

increasing the render scale in 1080 increase the quality A LOT, try at 200, you can read the panels tons of time better, still, gpu will get hit hard.
i have an old cpu, 4790k, with a 2070, so usually im main thread limited, if i put render over a certain value (150±) i got 100% gpu utilizzation all the time and i got gpu limited.
But i’m lucky in this, the fps change down only a little cause my cpu is still old, so in this way at least i utilize my gpu ahahahah

I don’t expect it within a month or so at least unfortunately. However, I doubt it makes sense to use in 1080p, as I’m CPU limited in most cases even with my GTX 1070. I literally tried turning resolution scale down to the lowest (30 IIRC) and gained ZERO fps.

VSR/DSR rescales the image first, so the integrated image reconstruction in Ms Flight Simulator has bad data to build a new image → it gets blurry if you try to upscale it with the integrated image scaling. Try disabling vsr/dsr first, then set the ingame resolution to 4K and resolution scaling to 50%. It will render internally at 1080p and reconstruct to 4K. Maybe you get a cleaner image.

Edit: You obviously need a 4k Display for that, but then why would you have dsr anyway. Sorry, got confused here. Still, DSR / VSR is broken in Flightsim, use the slider instead.

I´ll stay at 1080p @120%

i7 8700k@3.70GHz | 16GB RAM | GTX 1080 8GB

60fps@1080p | 100% Render Scaling

Textures/Terrain/Buildings set to Ultra

No complaints. Running great.

Do you get that stutter when you banking and looking to the ground ? or when flying low and scenery loads ?

Since v1.9.3 it seems the 200 scaling is always default to 100 upon game launch so everytime you launch game again you have to manually reapply the 200 setting in game options.

I mean: the setting is kept at 200 in the options but the screen is actually rendered at 100 as you can check using the developer mode (show FPS-check resolutions). Image quality is clearly affected as well.

Do you have the same behaviour?

Cheers

After patch 1.9.3 my GPU temp is very low, before it was 79degrees around 27-30fps cruise level with A320 now, 56degrees aroun 10fps, GTX1060, render scale 130.

It seems your card is therefore not doing the extra work of scaling, and you may be facing this bug too. Could you check you ingame resolutions after a new game launch? Go to options and activate developer mode. Then on the developer mode menu (top left of screen) go to options and activate “display fps”. In the right side of screen you should see the resolutions just below the FPS counter. If all are 1920x1080 then game is not rendering at scaled resolution. In my case I have seen that anything above 100 is only applied on the current game session, but once you launch game again it goes back to 100, even if in the game options the setting is higher. So setting is stored, but it´s not applied.

Cheers
