Reverb G2 goes black

I was having this problem a couple of years ago w my G2. Turned out it was my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard causing most of the blackouts. I f I let them be dormant for too long, reactivating them in flight would (sometimes) cause a 10-20 second blackout. I replaced them w wired versions through an a/c-powered USB hub. No more blackouts. Last week my wife’s mouse died. I offered my BT mouse but she prefers corded so I loaned her mine and went back to using the BT one. Sure enough, blackouts have returned. Going to head to MicroCenter this weekend and get a new corded one!

Interesting. I have a G502X (which doesn’t have bluetooth) and wired keyboard, but had my bluetooth turned on on the MB. I’ll shut it off and see if it makes a difference.

Ok, I’ve tried and tested every possible setting to try and stabilize this terrible stuttering and bkack screen flashes, only to have exact same issue and now even worse with total freeze-ups and CTD’s!
And since recent update my scenery has terribly degraded. All taxiway and runway markings at all airports are blurry and wobbly about 12 meters beyond my view from cockpit and outside/drone. Runway lighting is very clear but ground textures melt in view just a short distance away.
Scenery in the distance is dropped-out and flat and no details, like open fields, then unrealistically pop in as near.
I notice this in whichever setting…TAA, DLSS (DX11and 12), TLOD 200, OXR 120 etc…
And getting AA shimmering again on lines, edges, poles and in menu. Something major has disrupted many things once again (2.5yrs) making flying so frustrating and unenjoyable. I almost dread it now. Very disappointing MS/Asobo!

See if your settings have been changed— there was a rash of similar complaints in the last few days.

I don’t have any bluetooth device on my PC (except for the bluehtooth itself that the Samsung Odyssey+ incorporates for touch recognition (which I don’t use in msfs)). When the HMD goes black for a few seconds, so does the monitor and mouse. It does this to me constantly when I fly PMDG’s 737 or CRJ900. It never does when I fly the Cessna 152 or the Kodiak. What is the difference in msfs when you fly an airliner or a GA? Are you demanding more CPU with airliner and is the error due to a lack of CPU power? During the flight I maintain an average of 40fps (with my settings) and still have black screens. If the problem is lack of CPU power, shouldn’t I just drop my fps throughout the flight? It’s a bit frustrating

I have this problem with the Reverb G2 V2 also but only when loading into a flight, Never seem to get the black screens once loaded into a plane.

2 days of perfection! I played around some more with my settings. Went into DX12 with DLSS Balanced. Still bad stutters and blackouts. Changed back to DX11 with much better results. Best tweak was a suggestion on YouTube by StarbugsENG https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/8wL-b63KCEk He proves that by simply increasing your ingame Off Screen Pre-Cashing to Ultra and increasing TLOD and OLOD to around 200 (depending on your system).
I tried this and it worked! No stutters or blackouts at all for over an hour of flight. But this was in the Caribbean. I’ll try today in NYC and Toronto for the true test. Too good to be true??

Still some minor stutters (loading scenery) in dense city areas like Toronto. But no blackouts.
I had to delete FSimStudio’s Billy Bishop Airport because it caused horrific stutters and around 4-10 fps! SamScenes Toronto City Times also causes lower fps and stutters. SamScenes NYC is the same issue. Anywhere else in the world is very good.
So overtaxing the system causes issues regardless of one’s upgraded system. I’m hearing even 4090’s with top cpu’s still do too.

So my newly replaced G2 + cable was still suffering blackouts with my 4090, I’ve just done a full clean install of Win 11 & MSFS and my blackouts seem to have disappeared. I do still get the very occasional stutter coming into Heathrow with everything live

I just flew a flight from EIDW to EGLC in the dark with FSLTL and in the JF BAe-146-300. I had a massive ~10-15s black out over Heathrow area, and then a few more, but fortunately none during the approach and landing at London City. Taxi and parking was uneventful. However, one more big “freeze” while at the main menu (of all places) before hopping out of VR mode and shutting down. Nothing critical reported in the event viewer / reliability manager.

I’ll watch the video that @KennyKanada posted above and try some of the suggestions too. Although I do have similar components (i9-9900k, 3090, G2, Win10, 32GB), I also have the Orbx London City installed.

Good for you!:+1: I’ve replaced my G2 twice along with the cables, only to have same issues, so it wasn’t the headset or cable. And I’ve yet to see issues vanish due to the herculean task of a total reinstall of MSFS.
Let’s be clear…it’s not you, it’s them lol!

Uninstalled msfs. Installed from scratch and no addon in community. Black screens for a few seconds. Samsung odyssey+. RTX3070ti.

What are other folks’ VR settings? The things that seemed to be the worst hitters for me are AO and maxing out the terrain shadows.

Here’s mine, which I have refined over time to reduce many settings to medium/mid as I can’t visually tell any difference and get better performance as a result.

Hi! Which are your pc specs? What about the fps you are getting with this configuration?

Ah, should have put that in the post too.

Win10, i9-9900k, 3090, 32GB 3600, 980pro m.2 dedicated for FS, Gbit hardline (400Mbits when it’s “slow” and 700-800Mbits when it’s not busy.) G2 with v2 cable.

Depending on the scenery complexity, I’m seeing about 30FPS average overall. Typically in the 25-30 range in complex addons with traffic, weather near the ground. I pretty much ignore frames though as long as it feels smooth to me. (Everyone is different though!) But the blackouts can be frustrating since I can’t always reproduce them. . .even with same aircraft and flights.

Whoa! You’re really maxed-out there! I can’t go near with that with a 12900 and 3080.
I find the tipping point is with OXR and setting above 100. If I go 100 or less the view is less sharp but smooth and little stuttering and blackouts good fps @40+. I set it around 110.
In-game DLSS balanced. Most settings are high-medium.

I agree, those settings are not too far from my 4090 setttings.

After several flights analyze if there is a pattern for the blackouts, in my case, they happen always when descending to the destination, between 8000 and 5000 feet. Usually one per flight. If this pattern is common to most people there is something in MSFS that trigger this.

Still stutters, blackouts and occasional ctd. No matter what I do. I’ve cleared my nvidia cash now too, but still stutters. I see that ridiculous HolographicShell still pops up in the Performance Monitor which causes stuttering. Make sure before every session you stop that function which helps greatly.
