[REVIEW] Fukuoka Airport + City by SamScene3D

Here’s my review of SamScene3D’s Fukuoka package which includes both the airport and the city.

This one has ups and downs. The textures especially could be better and the airport could be more detailed, which is a bit sad, because I know this developer can do better on that front.

On the other hand, it’s a massive package which does a good job at pretty much restoring the entire location that is very badly represented in the default simulator. SamScene3D goes much beyond simple landmarks. They pretty much redo the whole cityscape with hundreds of apartment buildings, malls, hotels and such. This is something rather rare in the add-on industry.

Having been to Fukuoka (and missing it a lot), this really brings back the city’s “feel” with a ton of content for a price cheaper than the average airport on its own.

So yeah, there are issues, but I still think it’s a worthy purchase if one loves flying in Japan, especially since the dev updates its packages pretty heavily over time.

Your mileage may vary. Plenty of video content inside so you can make your own opinion.

Yes, i hope samscene 3d will continue to update these sceneries, i have samscene’s shanghai, hong kong, fukuoka, seoul and chongqing…overall i think it is worth it as for the price it covers both the city and an airport.

Many of the default cities in asia pacific are just not very well represented in MSFS, and i doubt Asia will get many world updates anytime soon. So i hope samscene will continue to bring more asia cities to MSFS soon.

Funnily, when I interviewed Jorg a while ago, he hinted to really wanting to do Korea. Despite the fact that the country has draconian laws about mapping. He told me “when there’s a will there’s a way” so I have hope

Think seoul or korea is listed in the wish list and they plan to update the city..but remember seeing the date being 2022…so it could be another year or so.

True that. China and Korea are unfortunately in a bad state. Hopefully, they’ll manage to do something about that.

They are draconian for foreign players like Google or MS, not Korean players. Basically the “national security concern flag” is waved each time a competition to Korean companies wants to enter the stage. Kakao map has all high res satellite imagery and many areas are in 3d with high res textures. Better looking than photogrammetry, but a different technology. I just hope MS/Asobo can strike a deal with national players like Kakao or Naver because they are not direct competitotors to Bing like Google is.

That is a screenshot from my phone, if I zoom in, those textures are in even much better quality than you can see now. I suspect it is some tech that builds 3d buildings from high res satellite imagery

Wow, I was completely unaware of that. I guess partnering with Kakao or Naver is indeed the solution, if they can pull it off
