Roads and streets are green and low resolution

It’s not though, Bing maps isn’t that green. In fact the whole rendering engine has this sickly green tint to it, makes me ill. Fortunately Nvidia Freestyle helps with that at least.

Since its not a source data issue you talking false facts here.
Its a bug which is known about 1 year and making the whole VFR a lot worse.

I dunno, man.. This Bing maps photo of my neighbourhood looks like green roads to me.

Trees are not meant. Highways (Autobahn) and mayor Roads are not even close to green on bing maps.
Its the same spot as my picture above

I know, but the AI seems to get confused on whether these are trees, or roads since they pretty much position in straight lines. Especially when the tree canopy covers the roads entirely.

I think there are two things at work here.

  1. For many areas the source data has a green tint already. I guess it would be up to the bing people to try for some color correction/equalization.
  2. FS2020 exacerbates the problem. With Switzerland we can follow the process, because the source data is openly available.

Left shows the official swiss GIS-browser. This is displaying the exact data MS used in WU6. Right shows the rendering in FS at mid day (evening light is only slightly better).

For completeness’ sake a screenshot from bing map that shows that the data has been imported into bing with more or less original colors.

Addendum:
Just noticed, that it seems to be LOD-dependent at least in some places. Which would suggest the error is not in the renderer but happened during the import of the textures - if it weren’t for the fact that the intensities and the limit distances keep changing when zooming in and out, so maybe more an aerosol/fog thing. Or could it be a LOD vs. MIP effect?

Any chance to enable only this texture?

Jumped in after a few months hoping some of the most annoying issues would have been addressed, for VFR this is critical not to mention that it’s a immersion killer…barely playable in current statet

Most highways and roads are green in my location (Iowa, USA) (and I would assume in most rural areas world wide). Looks terrible, can’t understand why this isn’t a top priority for Asobo to fix!

I dont think this will be fixed before they implent autogen roads on top of the bing image.

I’d added to a thread re the green roads, seems like ages ago now. In fact I’d largely forgotten.

But where you see it it looks pretty awful. Almost like small rivers of algae running all through towns and villages. I do hope this job doesn’t slip the net. Maybe it’s the sheer enormity of it if it’s a cross world issue, of hand treating vast swathes.

Would certainly appreciate it though..

Side note: what does it actually mean when the thread states “bug logged”. How does that translate into a fix. I only ask because the latest development update lists two pages of lifetime bugs. The lowest number of votes on this is 336.

This thread carries a decent 250 but that doesn’t get it even to the bottom of the second page of priority bugs.

Assume it simply reflects the priorities of the simmers out there and we can only hope for a very slow fix?

When a thread is tagged with “bug-logged” it means the reported issue has been recognised as a bug by the support team, and has been recorded in the team’s internal bug tracker, pending a fix.

I am new to this thread but wholeheartedly agree that the green roads are a huge problem for those of us that fly VFR at lower levels and navigate via landmarks. Highways that should be easily visible are very low contrast with the surrounding landscape and frankly look horrible.

But, when the first guy at Asobo cranked the very first iteration of this game up, no one noticed this? Surely someone had to say “Hey, the roads are green, WTH”.

It amazes me how many things go unnoticed or are ignored by them.

If you look back at the quality of the ground textures that they showed off before Launch they looked great, very much like the improved textures we are seeing in the latest Italy update. When the game actually launched it was apparent that many other areas of the world did not have the same quality ground textures.

The textures vary in quality enormously, some are very good, some are average, some are downright terrible. Time, lots of money and a willingness to improve them is the only long term cure for this issue in my opinion.

SU didn’t help. Some places.. it is bad. Take Louisville…

Has Asobo talked about the issue recently? I’m surprised this isn’t a higher priority. It’d be understandable if it were a sporadic issue but it’s worldwide…

Even in major cities we have grass roads. The sim seems to know there’s a road because you can see the “outline” or boundary between the “road” and grass, but somehow the road is still just a dark green color. It looks like a post apocalyptic movie to have grass growing out of major highways. If the sim can convert satellite images into decent approximations of what a building should look like, why is is so hard to recognize a road/street/highway and pave it??

Make it make sense.

This issue was last addressed in the April 2021 Q&A. They said that it is caused by the colour correction they have to apply in order to match the satellite imagery from several different sources, and that it is a process they need to improve.

Hoping this addressed in the next Q/A and/or SU12.

Still not clear on why the roads are green to begin with. Shouldn’t the sim logic be: if road (Bing Maps data), then pavement?
