Roll PC version back to SU4

There are so many issues with SU5 for PC users that it would probably take months to get us back to where we were with SU4 (if ever). The extra FPS in SU5 are pure vapor ware. We could have lowered graphics settings ourselves and still achieved better frame rates!

At this point MS/Asobo should just roll PC back to SU4 and keep working on the Xbox version to bring it up to par with SU4.

I personally spent thousands on new PC hardware, even bought a 3090 from scalpers and now we get this ■■■■?

Just hit Undo MS/Asobo and let us enjoy what we had.

They “made it fit into the box” referring to the $300 console:

If you’re on a PC with Xbox level hardware, no need to chime in. We already know you’re happy and satisfied with the update. This topic is for those who got downgraded.

Here are some gorgeous SU5 shots on a high end PC with with a 3090 GPU

Those happy with these awful version can keep it, but let others decide to roll back please.

Awesome - love the texture-work!

Roll back is useless. Then we’ll just go back and be stuck there forever because it was allready limited in how the graphics engine was working. I agree that this update is a complete mess and things only got worse, but atleast there’s more headroom to make use of to improve the graphics beyond what SU4 had and with higher performance as well.

They just need to GET ON WITH IT

But these ‘roll back su4’ post are complete bullsh*t and isn’t gonna help nobody. Progress is what we need. And it’s not at easy since half of how the game’s engine works is redone to accomodate for console. Doubt it’s even possible without rewriting the whole thing again.

Be angry all you want, but focus your anger in addressing what’s become worse instead of just asking for things that first of all, never going to happen, and second of all, not gonna work, and last but not least, arent going to bring this game forward.

Not going to happen. I think the only thing to do is wait patiently.

Been waiting patiently for a year since release for this sim to be sorted out, however underlying issues still exist even a year on!

Never going to happen. Just hope that they are are going to fix the problems within the next few weeks.

No i don’t.

If the same code has to run on both a $300 console and $5000 PC the problems will never get fixed. I have always backed the devs up in the past… always… but this time they neutered the software at the expense of high end PC owners.

I appreciate your white knighting @omarliew, but in time you will see that we’re not going to get the same quality we had back.

A roll back to SU4 for PC while they figure out how they’re going to fix this without losing a huge chunk of the PC user base is the easiest and quickest fix right now.

Yes, we need the good older version.
Remove this ugly Xbox stuff for PC-users!

Well I’m a bit more optimistic that eventually we are getting back the same visuals as pre SU5.

After seeing the interview with digital foundry one thing is clear to me. They are struggling with a lot of legacy FSX code that is completely not optimized to run on current gen PC’s. They essentially need to rewrite the whole engine. That’s going to take some time.

That said I’m also shocked how they could release SU5 in such state.

Best case scenario, it will take months to get something equivalent to what we had in SU4. Is it fair to force PC users to eat ■■■■ while they work on it?

My takeaway from that digital foundry interview is that they had to do whatever it took to get this thing running on a $300 console. That’s quite an achievement and they deserve a gold medal for it.

The question remains, why force the same ■■■■ on PC users?

First of all this is not ‘the easiest way’ since it also has to run on xbox. As far as losing a huge chunk of the pc user base. Well if that’s gonna happen, they did it to theirselfs so not sure how we need to worry about that. If you don’t like it, feel free to not play anymore. But since i paid for it, and there’s no way we’re getting a refund after all this time my only option is to stick with it, and hope for these new optimizations to be a more suitable base to continue building on instead of going backwards and stick with all the old fsx coding wich was allready limited.

Yes it is a mess now, but sometimes you need to make a mess before cleaning up. My only hope is that this won’t take another year and Asobo got the message we’ve all been sending after su5 and people are seriously (understandable, me included) p*ssed about the way things are going. But going backwards is a bigger waste of time.

These are layers from Bing, it need to be fixed, but you need to submit these area, these stuff don’t happens often, only on specific area. There was a lot more at release now less.

That was just one little example. SU5 is a disaster all around.

They won’t ever go back to SU4, and that is a good thing. No problems on my side, cloud quality is lacking and the popping in is distracting. But since I have now super smooth landings on major airports I take it.

These stuff was since release.. It’s Bing layers, not the hole planet is covered from Bing, and still not all area are fixed on layers, there is so much to discover.

Yes, I am reasonably sure that we will as well. The XBox release had to happen as scheduled so I guess Asobo had no choice but to do what they did to make it happen on time. That undoubtedly led to several compromises.

Concerning the graphics and also the reduction of memory usage and considering the upcoming DX12 compatibility I’m confident that graphics will be addressed (even though I still think it’s really not as bad as people complain about)

In any case: most (no not all) of the stuff people complain about can easily be rectified by editing the usercfg.opt file. Check this thread:

This thread shows that not all is as bleak as the current atmosphere here in the forum makes it out to be. It would be nice if people were a little more solution-oriented. It’s easy to complain, rant, whine and bleat. But it’s not helpful.

One of my professors said to me once: “dumb people search for problems - intelligent people search for solutions.”

In other words - instead of insisting on the quality at which you will smoothly land and at the same time the visualization will be at the same level as it was, did you choose the option to simply accept and say “they are deceiving me, but I will be silent”? Interesting life position …
