RTW with Soft Airlines

LEG 12:RJSM-RJCW
Pulled the grand caravan from the airbase hangar to replace the 172, and head for Wakkanai Airport.

Grand caravan is of bigger shape and power. Fear no more, the wind and the mountains!

Surprise! Bigger plane comes with bigger wind. 36kt! That’s really a huge challenge for landing. Almost flip my grand caravan over.

LEG 13:RJCW-UHHH
No challenge, no fun.
Switch to Robin DR400, hand fly to Russia across the sea, heading for KHABAROVSK NOVY AIRPORT.

Little Robin is a good plane for hand flying. No AP, even No DME. All that I can rely on is the one needle in OBS. Busy on trimming and heading adjustment along the way.

Amazing sunset again, and night fly again.

Passing by a small airport, Yedinka. Did a touch and go. It’s soft runway, and this time descend and touch down is getting better.

Take off from Yedinka in a hurry and head for UHHH, before the daylight totally disappears. One more knowledge discovered: stars are good for visual navigation, since you don’t have to wiggle around when staring at the needle.
It’s just bad for the eyes.

LEG 14:UHHH-UAMM
For this leg, it’s 172 again, but with analog gauge version, which comes with Premiun Delux update. Yes, I updated to Premium Delux just for this version of 172. Basic AP, steam gauge, with Garmin 530. As for the short side of power, I decide to do legs with shorter distance. For now, this version of 172 is just perfect for me. I hope the new CFD simulations will be applied to this version too in a short time.

Comes to the flight today, weather is not helpful. Strong breeze with tense cloud, not sure if will be rainy sooner. VFR along Amur river to Bolon lake. Land at nearby air base.

Weather is changing for the better side. Scenery is just amazing along the Amur river.
Amur river, being the 10th longest river in the world, is also refered as Asia’s Amazon. Part of this river running through north of China, is called Black Dragon River.

Arrived at Bolon lake. Destination is across this huge lake.

LEG 15: UAMM-UHJD
Leaving the military airbase beside Bolon lake, and head for the next airport 50nm away along the river.

The Amur River carries huge water from Greater Khingan Mountains all the way to Strait of Tartary.

Arrived at UHKD. Though it’s mid April, the temperature is still below zero。 The runway is covered with ice. The landing this time, I can say with pride is a success.

LEG 16: UHKD-UHNM
Continue my journey up north to the Strait of Tartary.

Can’t resist the flat ice for a touch and go practice. Achieved the most gentle touch down, without noticing the main gear has landed, not even until I noticed the still needle on the vertical speed gauge. I was still holding up the nose.

Magnificent sunset. Made to De-Kastri before it’s completely dark.

LEG 17:UHNM-UHNM
It’s almost noon. Thick cloud over De-Kastri Airport. Plan for this leg is to circle the Kizi lake.

Lured by the flat ice lake to do a touch & go. This time an engine failure situation is simulated. Mixture pulled to cut-off. Slowly glide to maintain a 500FPM altitude decrease. The snow is so white that it interferes my judgement for distance. Anyway survived from the landing.
