source Don’t buy RTX 3090
They’re set at 1.35v with XMP
1.35, yeah that sounds more right. Did you try bumping it up by .05 at a time to see if it won’t be stable? Also people have reported, and I’ve experienced it myself that using the stock xmp profiles may not be stable. Try manually adjusting the timings, and match the timings on the sticker on the sticks of ram.
The hilarious thing on my mb is my ram is xmp 2.0 capable and my motherboard shows an xmp profile 2.0 but it won’t let me use it. Not supported. Why the heck is it even there?!
Okay do I have to pull every single stick out to see the timing? I’m afraid I’m going to break something in my pc by doing it manually since I’m not an expert at doing things like this.
Some recommended me to run them at 3200mhz, maybe it doesn’t like being at the border of 3600mhz?
I mean I’m not going to lie the sim runs perfect with 2133mhz. What would be the difference boosting the speed?
I know I want what I paid for (3600mhz) but if the sim is going to keep CTD then there’s no point of making a move.
It is true that 3200 is far more stable if you can’t find the sweet spot for 3600. Typically you need to oc your chip or at least bump up the core voltage to handle it. So yeah I’d say if you have no complaints, don’t mess. True performance hounds like myself don’t mind bsod’ing a pc for 2-3 days to squeeze every mhz out of it. If it’s not you, it’s not you.
Interesting fact about msfs, my pc can easily handle OC to 5.0ghz, and I can stress test it with ram maxed and my 2080ftw oc’d, but msfs will still crash. Any other game no problem. No matter how much juice or how cold i keep it. At overclocked levels the cpu mainthread gets slower the higher i push it, which is exactly opposite of what it should do. I’ve also found when you oc too high eventually msfs with skip a step, miss passing a physics computation to the thread or some hiccup, it’ll crash eventually, every time. I’ve worked very hard to use a mild oc, so I can max the ram and gfx, but its a balancing act cause ocing slows the mainthread. Its seems msfs is just heavy. Really heavy.
So would you suggest me to try it out at 3200mhz?
Or just leave them as how they are right now (2133mhz)?
My question is, whats the difference between ram being at 3200-3600mhz compared to ram at 2133mhz? @W1ldF1re6
Prob won’t notice too much diff between the two. But maybe you will, don’t know, its about what you want to do. Try and find out, really can’t do any harm at 3200 regardless but if your happy as is…
Its all personal preference man. You can always go back to 21 if nothing works. If it were me if I could spend like 2 or three tries and 32 is stable id keep it. But its like I said, preference.
Realistically all the ram is doing is holding data for the processor to compute physics or holding terrain data for rendering. If you’re getting good fps and terrain looks good you probably won’t gain much. It might help with skipping if you get a lot of that, but I’m fairly certain that all of us pushing our systems to get the best look over fps are dealing with some amount of skipping. I get 45fps constant with almost everything maxed and I still get skips here and there.
You guys are totally off topic with your RAM discussion. Please open a separate thread about it or continue in private messages.
Check your BIOS is up to date. I got 3600 MHz Ram for my PC a few weeks ago but initially it would only run at 3200 and crashed at 3600.
Updated the BIOS to the latest version and now it works at 3600.
Obviously be careful when updating your Bios and follow the instructions from the manufacturers website.
How do I find out if it’s up to date?
Just happened upon this thread so I thought I’d give my input as someone who has upgraded from an RTX 970 to an RTX 3090.
Literally got my new PC this morning. Latest i7 CPU, 32GB of 3200 RAM, fancy ssd drive thing direct on the motherboard.
Switched on my 120hz 4k TV, downloaded msfs, set every single switch and slider to ultra (including 100 for all boats, cars etc), started up the sedona training and got…
35fps
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not surprised as I’ve watched enough videos now.
Ultimately it’s a sim, it’s not a first person shooter type game so it still looks beautiful and smooth but still, 35fps!
Makes me wonder if Asobo purposely built this for future hardware or whether someone at Asobo just said sod it - and kept pushing the dev.
Don’t I feel stupid for worrying about getting a tv/monitor that only supports less than 120hz ![]()
