Rudder Pedal Recommendation

You are probably best off asking them. But I hear Virpil can take months.

Another happy MFG Crosswind user here. They are well suited to all types of aircraft with plenty of adjustment allowing you to tailor them to your liking. I have mine mounted to a piece of shelving t increase their stability and as I have a corner desk to keep them in the correct position.

Apparently, Honeycomb will be making an announcement about their new products shortly.

Ars Technica’s resident pedal expert Lee Hutchinson writes incredibly detailed reviews. He also reviewed the TPR’s and recommended them as the best rudder pedals you could buy from a store.

His review was what ultimately led me to getting them, as he said they could compete with the boutique brands without a several month’s long waiting list. I bought them with next day delivery and they are the favourite part of my setup. Solid steel construction, they make the Honeycomb yoke and throttle quadrant feel a bit cheap and plasticky in comparison.

I guess the design aesthetic is a personal choice. I much prefer the look of the TPR’s to other rudder pedals, a major plus for me, but I do get that enthusiasts prefer the boutique, ultra enthusiast mechanical look.

There is a similar discussion going on in another thread with someone wanting peripherals advice. I’ll say here what I did there. It’s always quality over quantity for me so the best you can get for your budget. There are some good suggestions here and you would certainly notice the difference over the Saitek unit which is junk by comparison. I’ll give a +1 for the TM TPR’s solid metal construction, realistic movement and operation and they use contactless sensing. Very nice to use indeed.

The hall sensors in the TPR’s are definitely a bonus. They should last longer than both my Honeycomb yoke and throttle quadrant without any internal parts to wear out. They are the kind of product that should last well over a decade with careful use. In fairness, the boutique brands are probably of similar build quality too and well worth the investment.

But the cheaper Saitek pedals and the like are a false economy in my opinion. They won’t last as long, and you wont get the same enjoyment out of them. Buy quality and enjoy the experience is my advice.

Not just for flight sim kit but most things in life. I bought a brand new Concept 2 Model E rower in 2006 that seemed ridculously priced at £1300 back then, but 16 years later and it still looks and works like new. I know I will probably have it until I die.

Check Virpil forum, there is discussion about backorder and payment process.
Usually it takes few weeks to couple months.
But they do manufacturing in Belarus, and some countries added extra tax on them (e.g. Australia).

Thanks, looks like a pretty long discussion there so instead I did email them to see if they can give any current estimates about lead times to the US.

Lots of info in this duplicate thread…

I have used the CH Pro Pedals for years. They work well for me.

MFG Crosswind pedals are great pedals, own them myself. Yes, you can place pedals on the floor, they do not have to be mounted to any other hardware.

I bought a Virpil Stick Base shortly after the War begun. Not in stock as well as all their products, because they build them just in time as I heard. Was a little afraid because it’s a Belarus Company on paper, but I thought, if I get in trouble not getting the paid stuff, I will loose a little money only and not my life.
So it took a few weeks and I got the base finally.
Virpil send all their stuff vom Lithuania and maybe the company is located there as well even is a Belarus citizen.

I would have bought a Virpil rudder as well maybe, but I already had the MFG and this is a fine piece of mechanics. Guess from the mechanical side, there is no real quality difference between both.

Designed and manufactured in Belarus, the Lithuania location is only an export hub. The conflict and any related restrictions may impact their ability to deliver going forward, time will tell.

I think they tend to build things in batches. With some purchases I have waited quite a while and other purchases were available for shipping almost immediately.

I can’t comment on this, have never had the Crosswinds. But I have a set of Virpil pedals (no toe brake version) and they are indeed nicely engineered with good components. The Crosswinds look like they are well designed and engineered too.

If I upgrade it will probably be to Slaw pedals because those are just so darned sexy.

Not sure exactly what you refer to, but my Virpil pedals and their three axes worked out of the box and only needed to be bound in the sim (and later SPAD.neXt).

Anyway, I warmly recommend them, if money is less of a problem.

Well, looking very good. Could be a good choice too. Inhaftierung to google it, never heard about.

You have to calibrate the MFG once and/or when you change the angle of the footrests. And this configuration will be stored in unit itself.
It’s the same with the Virpil Base I bought. I use it with the Thrustmaster Hotas Grip and I have to configure it and it will be stored in the unit as well.

Everything else is similar with cheaper devices. It will be recognize in the sim as USB Device, but there is no presetting stored. So you have to do that by yourself. But it’s really not that much with rudder pedals, isn’t it?! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks for all the replies so far, I do appreciate it. I did hear back from Virpil first thing this morning (props for the fast customer service!) and they said current production shows shipping in two to three weeks to the States. Not terrible.

I admit, I’m torn. I included the Slaw pedals in my consideration, but I’m not sure they fit how I want to use them. I really do want a full foot solution.

So, definitely the Virpil or MFG, but I haven’t fully decided yet.

One question seems to be around the damper on the MFG. I don’t see that as an option on the Virpil so does that give them an edge? Do the Virpil pedals feel ok without that?

These are the ones I use along with the Alloy Yoke. Absolutely no issues and easily secured to floor with no-slip pads, etc.

Can’t say if it’s ok without the damper. Wasn’t not that much and i bought them and never used the MFG without. Some said, no need for this, some said, its a must have. Well, i don’t remove them for checking because i’m pretty fine with it.
Anyway, those are normal Motorcycle handlebar damper and cost the same like i paid with mfg. Maybe someone tested it with and without and can say something about it.

Thanks, Sartanius. You give great confidence. I shall try your tips and let you know how it goes. Give me a couple of days as I am busy right now.
