Rudder recentering while applying full rudder

It shouldn’t!
The heading for that section may have changed back from medium, or easy, to hard.
That would change everything else back in that section!
Glad to hear you found the answer. :+1:

I wish they would leave the settings alone.

You probably fly using different modes in the game. Like from free flight, then landing challenge, then bush trip, or piloting lessons, etc.

From the many reports, these flying modes in the game has their own set of flight assistance that are always enabled for them. So whenever you fly on these modes, it resets your flight assistance settings based on those flights, and they stay saved in your profile when you go back to the free flight modes.

It’s part of the reason why I uninstall all the other flight modes from the Content Manager. Not only it saves space in my SSD for flight modes that I’ll never use, but also to avoid issues like these. So as long as I only fly on the free flight exclusively, the flight assistance never change on its own.

Also, it’s also a good idea to make everything hard/true to life, and only turn on the specific assistances that you want (like damage, or taxi ribbons) rather than use the easy preset. From what I observe, there are “hidden” assistance that you can’t see from the menu that is activated from those modes, so by selecting all the Hard/True to Life preset, we’re making sure every assist is off including the hidden ones so that we can have full control over everything. Then just manually enable the assistance one by one for the ones we really need.

I only ever do free flight and landing challenges and again, this just started recently after the world update. What’s even more weird is while the aircraft flies just fine in the air now, as soon as I touch down, it still pulls hard left and I have to fight to keep the aircraft centered on the run way. Something is very wrong for sure. Hopefully they can figure it out.

Yeapp. That’s exactly what I explained in my post above. Because you do free flight and landing challenge, the assistance change on its own. When you do Landing challenge, it resets to the preset assistance settings for the landing challenge. By the time you fly using the free flight again, it’s still retaining the assistance setting that you get from doing the landing challenge giving you the illusion that something is wrong.

So if you do free flight and landing challenge from time to time, make sure you reset your Assistance settings before you start your free flight session to True to Life and everything Hard again.

It’s the reason why I just uninstall all the landing challenge content, I don’t want to do them anyway. So I only fly exclusively using the free flight.

And again, it never did this before. This just started, it hasn’t always done this. If it had always done this then yes I would agree, but that’s not the case. It just started this after the update so I can’t see this being a normal function.

Yes, a lot more people have noticed this happening recently, for what ever reason.
I guess I would call it the “new normal”.
The point is though, NEO4316 has explained to you why it happens, and when to check to see if it has changed!

Thanks this actually worked for me I switched form modern to Legacy/turned off assists and my rudder controls are much better though some time they twich slightly but other then that everything works fine for my GA aircraft.

I had this problem too and found that the rudder was programmed in two different places. Check all of your controls to determined what should not be assigned to operate the rudder

How is it possible after all the development work following 30+ years of flightsim development that the rudder doesn’t work properly? The RUDDER!!! Yes the graphics are beautiful, but if you can’t fly a plane, what’s the point? Feeling a little ripped off here - MSFS2020 is not useable and I bought the most expensive version. This is a joke, right?

Its switched off in default mode

After months of frustration I have been able to resolve the rudder issue.
I have previously re-installed the sim, changed rudder pedals, deleted all the local cache, and completed many other futile attempts at a fix.
I don’t fly the sim myself but I have been trying very hard to fix it for my husband.
Now I have changed from Modern to Legacy, changed general assistance from easy to medium and made a few tweets to select assistance needed.
Yesterday was the first time this year that he was able to fly,
Thank you

This is one of the most mystifying problems in MFS. I tried almost all of those changes, but nothing worked for me until a reinstallation (necessitated by a glitch that occurred during an update) resolved it permanently. And I’m using the Modern flight model. What solves this unique malfunction for one user often does nothing for the next guy.
At this point, does switching back to Modern immediately re-create the rudder issue?

Mine started working properly again after the next update so I haven’t had any issues since.

I have been having problems with uncommanded rudder inputs on the ground. Going into Dev mode and changing a livery seems to have fixed it for now (and then went back without the problem in Normal non Dev mode. Also using Easy assistance mode and modern. Was using a Carenado add on (but I don’t think this problem was connected with the add on).

The option under Easy is for Auto Rudder set to on.
Try to see if turning it Off will help.

I started having a similar issue. I used to jave the autorudder problem but I turned it off and aolved it. Now for some reason the rudder becomes stiff as soon as I start accelerating. It moves freely when the aircraft is still on the ground though. Autorudder is off. Any ideas? I hope this isn’t a “fix” to help with ground handling.

Here are my observations: pc version, Saitek rudder, Honeycomb Alpha and Bravo. I had flaps not even working, throttle returned to 0, so it was more than rudder alone. I set assistance setting back to hard/true to life. That fixed flaps and throttle. Rudder: in the air, working fine. On the ground: when I use a small defelction, it stays put. When I give full rudder (like when taking off full power, to counter p-factor) pumping is the only thing that works, because after the initial deflection, it smoothly returns to center.

To the Asobo developers I would like to say, when setting hard or true to life, listen: IT’S MY PLANE! I HAVE THE CONTROLS! I have real flying hours, so know what I’m doing and taking the consequences of my actions

I’m having the opposite issue - my rudder pedals used to always re center - now all of a sudden all joysticks and pedals make the rudder pedal stay at whatever angle I push and they don’t recenter after. I then have to fight to get it back to neutral before going off runway. auto rudder assistance doesn’t change this. Help!!

My rudder also recenters by itself.
I only just installed MSFS (two days ago) and I’m using the Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog with Thrustmaster T.Flight Rudder Pedals. I’ve checked all settings and there’s nothing assigned to Autorudder or Center Rudder (or similar). I also have all piloting assistance options turned off (except ATC).
It’s interesting because my rudder (via the pedals) works perfectly when departing (taxi, take-off, flight), however it all goes horribly wrong after landing at the destination because the rudder starts to auto-center and is pretty much uncontrollable for taxiing.
I can reset my flight (back to departure location), and the rudder again works perfectly. I’ve only tried this in the Cessna.
And sometimes when I land, the rudder works properly! I think there’s a big issue with the way the settings work in MSFS. It seems sometimes you have to go in and “set” what is already set. E.g if Center Rudder appears to be unassigned, then clear it anyway. Who knows, it might work for you?
