Is the scaling correct here. A typical lane on an interstate highway is 12 feet the beech bonanza wingspan is 30 feet.
The width of the plane’s shadow here should be the same as the width of the plane regardless of the altitude the plane is at (the plane is flying horizontally, the sun is behind the plane, the sun’s rays should be parallel). If so, it looks like the scale is not that bad.
I was looking at the apparent width of the plane vs the width of the road
Just land on the highway and take a screenshot from the top.
That should give you a good indication.
Interesting find! So the generic cars are too small on the highways (or the planes scaled to big)?
I will check this out, this is interesting! The cars and trucks and so on the airports look absolutely accurate and perfectly scaled, the humans too.
From looking at the shadow, it looks like the plane is about 3 lane wide.
The Bonanza has a wingspan of 33ft 6inches, so if the average lane where you’re flying is about 11ft 2inch wide, then it would be completely realistic.
In the US it seems like 12 ft is accurate, in Europe they’re normally quite a bit more narrow.
So yes, I’d say it’s pretty accurate scale wise.
Here the scaling from the Mooney M20 in comparison to a Cessna and a Fuel-Truck and the person inside the fuel truck:
Various random screenshots of planes flying really low over streets:
Unfortunately there are no screenshots of an airplane next to a generic car, but I have made one video where this happened.
After overshooting the runway the Airbus came to a halt next to a road when a generic car passed by:
In Flight Simulator 20 I haven´t noticed any scalings that looked off and with mismatching sizes so far, the vegetation next to the runway and the generic cars fit very well with the airplane sizes ![]()
I cannot say (at least what I am seeing in 2D in direct comparison with the plane but with no VR-headset to have a size comparison with real-world-obkects) that something looks ridiculously small and completely off with scaling.
All objects seem to have a fine scaling with nothing looking off and way too small.
One thing I have noticed is the scaling of the generic aircraft model used in multiplayer when another use has an aircraft you do not is absolutely hilarious ![]()
I ve landed on freeways in the caravan many a time and the closer you get to the ground the bigger the cars seem to get (and no I dont mean that in the way push stick forward houses get bigger) smaller. But the caravan takes about, 2 1/2 lanes when sitting on the highway here.
