Scenery not loading in detail

Everything was running fine so I thought I would see what live traffic was like nowadays as I haven’t used it in ages, turned it on and everything crawled to a stutter so I turned it back off again. Now the scenery isn’t loading in the distance, its there underneath you but all I can see in the distance is smooth fields where buildings were before, they only appear when you get right up to them. even taking off from grass runways looks a lot more basic than before.

Everything is still on in the data side of things, photogrammetry is on, I’ve tried with the rolling cache on and off, cleared the cache and made sure live data is on, ■■■ is going on this time?

I am having the same issue, I think there is a problem with the sim at the moment because I was watching Chewwy94 yesterday and his scenery looked awful as well.

Ok, whew…:eyes:
I thought it was just me having scenery look very poor.

Must be, it looks truly terrible at the moment. Although photogrammetry is working all the generic buildings look like little basic black boxes.

Its almost as if Asobo have a team that watch what improvements PC users do and then sabotage it so they can’t have a better experience than an arcade Xbox user.

I really thought this would be a hot topic, surely it can’t be just me and a couple of others that are having this problem, there must be that few amount of people that use VR that problems just don’t get any attention, maybe if they made it a bit more affordable then they might sell more than 3 headsets, I just don’t get the logic in it all, its by far the best way to sim.

What I have realised though is I’m exhausted, I’ve spent the best part of a day tinkering yet again with a game that should just work out of the box. I own a van with 220,000 miles on it and I’ve tinkered a hell of a lot less with that than I have with this game. Asobo should either kill VR off altogether and refund everyone that bought it for that purpose or employ someone who knows what they are doing to get it working as it should do, they cant keep it going as it ism there isn’t simply enough time in the day to set it up time after time.

What I do know is I’ll never ever buy another microsoft product, and just think of all the revenue lost by the 3rd party developers when people simply give up on this game because if the way it is.

Here’s a screenshot looking over new york, Samscenery buildings load no problem but everywhere else is a barron wasteland, and thats with terrain lod maxed out at 400.

I just tried deleting the rolling cache but it crashed to desktop whilst attempting it. Hanging up the headset for today and going to bed.

Still truly awful for me and I’ve tried just about every setting known to man to try and get something back to anywhere near normal.

The scenery, both whats stored in the community folder and the generic stuff simply aren’t loading until I’m right on top of them, before that everything is just basic triangles and other basic shapes, then they morph into what they should be as I fly over them. The colours are also terrible, everything has a green tinge, the white is vastly over exposed and everything has a kind of shimmer to it, pretty much what it was like before we had DLSS.

I can’t imagine what has gone wrong unless its deliberate by Asobo, they will probably pass it off as another optimisation but for me I simply don’t have any more time to mess around with this anymore, to think of the money I’ve spent trying to get it sorted over the last couple of years, I could have paid for real flying lessons, I must be absolutely nuts, screw you asobo.

Even though no-one is interested, this is what I’ve done so far

  1. reinstalled windows 10 with a full format
  2. installed latest graphics drivers
    3 .reinstalled MSFS (yet again)
  3. Installed WMR portal
  4. Installed open XR tools
  5. Not installed anything else at all, no programmes, nothing in the community folder

Result - absolutely no different, scenery will not load until I’m right on top of it. This is squarely an ASBO hatchet job on me for daring to buy a new GPU. Yes it was running fine for a while with the new GPU, its only in the last day or so its gone wrong.

I’ve never had such contempt for a manufacturer before now, they have treated the PC users as a scummy cash cow so they could develop the game for XBOX users and as soon as they got them on board they have dumped the PC user into the trash, they deserve to go bust, I do so hope the fickle Xbox users quickly get bored with this game and dump it.

Look how green that field is, its like someone has painted it with luminous paint when you fly over it, look how basic the trees are on it, yes its 3rd party scenery but it never looked as bad as it is.

I demand an answer off Asobo, this is clearly unacceptable.

Next step - put original GPU back in = still looks rubbish

This forum is the wrong place for your demands. Please submit a support ticket instead.

At the off chance I can think of things to try, what is your CPU, RAM size, VR headset, GPU and video driver version?

Ok, i7 11700k, 32GB ram, Pallit 4090, Reverb G2, latest nvidea driver 535.98 (but tried earlier ones), 1000W power supply, 135mb internet with hard wired connection, 130 meg down, 21 meg up.

Brand new windows installation with brand new MSFS, nothing in the community and I still have the problems, the scenery is very sparse in the distance, think dust fields with the odd tree, the scenery just in front of me is very basic, triangles for trees etc, the scenery below me is like real life, doesn’t matter which area I fly in, its all the same.

Also everything is way too sharp and shimmering, the buildings look just like when we had the shimmering problem, black roofs etc, everything is over exposed as well, airports are like brilliant white everywhere.

I have a similar system (i7-13700, 32GB, 4080, G2, Win11) and have none of these issues. I do run an older video driver (528.49) due to persistent issues with the newer ones.

I am sorry I don’t have any new ideas for you to try.

Do you think it could be the CPU bottlenecking the new GPU? the FPS counter always says limited by main thread and is showing 22.5fps mostly. I used to get higher than that with the 3080ti but admittedly not at 200% render

I am a very avid simmer and can tell you I see the exact same problems . As a wild guess maybe they changed the way photogrammetry is done . But the shimmering in windows/ and poor building detail is for real… If I fly over the same area sometimes the the detail increases dramatically. I am clueless as usual…

Does sound like the same problem. I just don’t get it unless its sabotage. For one example, I’ve got some 3rd party scenery of Edinburgh in the community folder so its not like it has to be streamed or anything, its right there on the HDD. When I fly over the area only a basic version of the scenery is there, its not until you actually fly right over it does it change to the full resolution, and then once you have past it and turned round its back to the basic scenery again. You can literally see the scenery all around you constantly morphing into what it should look like.
This problem is now happening with my old GPU as well yet it was perfect before, so its not a problem with the new GPU. I’m not sure what more I can do, you cant really do anymore than a complete PC wipe and start again. I must be the only person in the world that has bought a 4090 and everything is 100 times worse than a 3080ti.

I just loaded thelatest driver It seem to make a difference here…
