Screen tearing no matter what I do with settings

I’ve had issues with screen tearing and this game since I bought a 9070XT, about 6 months ago. Thought I’d got them solved, and it’s been good. fast forward to today. No settings changed, in either Adrenalin, or MSFS 24 itself. Screen tearing is back. No matter what I do with settings, it won’t stop. Honestly fed up with this, it’s literally the only game I own that gives me these issues.

Screen tearing occurs mainly when VSync is disabled. It’s better to enable it in Adrenaline rather than in MSFS.

For me, the best results are obtained by enabling both VSync and GSync (or Freesync).

In game :

  • Disable vsync

In AMD Adrenaline software :
Games / Games / Profile Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 :

  • Radeon Enhanced Sync : Disabled

  • Wait for vertical refresh : Always ON (it’s VSync)

On the screen OSD :

  • Enable GSync (or FreeSync)

Beyond that, try to cap your FPS so that it matches your screen’s refresh rate :

Example : 60 fps (30×2) for a 60hz monitor

In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 :
Settings / General / Graphics

  • Max frame rate : 30

  • Frame Generation : AMD FSR 3

  • Frame multiplier : 2X

  • VSync : Disabled

To avoid stutters in very dense areas :

  • Dynamic Settings : Enabled

  • Frame rate target : 30

For a 75 hz monitor, cap fps at 38 fps x 2

For a 100 hz monitor, cap fps at 50 fps x 2

In Windows 11 you can also fix the monitor refresh rate, for example :
Settings / System / Display / Advanced display

  • Choose a refresh rate : 60 HZ

  • Dynamic refresh rate : Disabled

One last thing: sometimes you’ll need to redo the settings after installing a new version of Adrenaline or MSFS 2024. So, write down your ideal settings somewhere so you can easily restore them later.

What do you mean by this part?

The OSD is the menu on the monitor itself

On a normal 60hz 1920x1080 HD monitor would this be an option to select?

Did you look in Windows > Settings > System > Display > Graphics > Advanced Graphics Settings (which is where VRR enabled shows up)?

I’m using the 9070XT as well and never have had issues with stuttering or screen tearing. In my Windows Graphics settings I have Optimized for Windows Games disabled, HAGs disabled and VRR enabled.

Freesync is enabled in my monitor, 120Hz refresh. I keep VSync in Adrenaline at its default, off unless app specifies, and enable it in FS. Frame Rate capped at 50 FPS with no FG or Dynamic Settings

That’s what works for me.

That isnt there on mine for some reason.

So it’s not recognizing the monitor as VRR capable. Is it VRR capable? What make and model of monitor, and what graphics card?

The places to look are:

  • Settings on the monitor itself
  • Settings in your Graphics card software.

For example, on my system, to get VRR working, I had to:

  • On my Samsung TV, which was 60 Hz by default, but “capable” of 144Hz VRR, I first had to enable “Game Mode” in the TV settings
  • Then in Windows, I had to go to System > Displays > Advanced > Variable Refresh Rate > and choose 120 Hz
  • Then in NVIDIA Control Panel, I saw “G-Sync” appear, and selected my TV and “enabled” G-Sync Compatible…
  • Then, in Windows > System > Display > Graphics > Advanced Graphics > finally VRR appeared!

I just have a regular AOC 1920x1080 HD 60hz monitor, nothing special and I have a 9070Xt

I think you’d have to look in the monitor settings for Adaptive Sync, or VSync, or look up the specs by exact model. Just my guess.

Those settings are not avaliable on my monitor. Although these are my settings in the AMD Adrenalin Software, do they look correct?

I honestly don’t know, but if the monitor isn’t physically capable of VRR, then it probably won’t matter what the computer settings are, my guess.

I’ve tried all of this. it doesn’t work. it’s the only game that gives me issues, no other game I play does this. And I have around 15 games on my system at the moment.

What monitor do you have?

I use a 60hz OLED TV. It’s not a monitor, it doesn’t have g-sync etc.

Looks like AMD Freesync is either not enabled or not supported in your monitor. You would have to go to your monitor’s settings to confirm

As ive said I have a basic 60hz HD monitor, been through the settings menu and theres nothing along the lines of gsync, freesync etc etc. I don’t have a gaming monitor. Im so perplexed!

Sorry, didn’t read your earlier post. I’ve got the 9070XT as well and its a great card. The sweet spot for that card is a nice 2K 144Hz or higher monitor, unless you want to go 4K.

Would something like this be okay? Amazon.co.uk - kinda want to stay on 1080p
