Hi Bijan,
quick question before i buy (previous owner of some of your stuff).
Are your models high resolution from up close (like the default ones) and do they interact/move with airflow/wind? Also do they gradually drop leaves?
Or are you using mainly the default vegetation but with appropriate location, hight, density (which would be great)
Hi. Yes Iâm using the default stock trees so they are all high resolution and behave the same with wind, etc
Lots of corrections have been made with density, size, color corrections, variations and biome corrections.
Thank you for the quick reply and for using the great default models. I just bought it.
I have another question but i am not sure if you can answer that. A lot of places in Germany and Italy are just brown, even though tons of those should be green, even in winter. Is that something Asobo has to fix as there is clearly something wrong?
Regarding fields and crops. I havenât seen any variety, no rapeseed fields, nothing (as shown in the trailer). Are those not implemented yet (not sure if you could check and see them in the sdk), is that something you could force or trigger with your mod or do we have to wait on Asobo for that as well?
The last thing i wanted to ask: There are tons of places with blueish/cold/turquoise vegetation like grass, shrubs etc in forests probably to bad satellite data or wrong/no colour correction. Is that something you could adress (globally) like change everything with colour X to colour Y for an appropriate/warmer green?
Thank you for your ongoing work
Thank you.
Iâve created a terrain mask for Europe to address the blueish grass issue. Germany is already included, and upcoming updates will add masks for UK, Australia, Tasmania.
Regarding crop fields, the rapeseed field shown in the trailer does not exist. There are only small patches here and there. However, you can find wheat, cotton, corn, and rice fields. These fields are only designed for close-up viewing, such as in walking mode or when flying low in a drone or helicopter. They have a LOD of approximately 20 meters.
Iâve been rather disappointed by the visuals from the air so far with MSFS 2024. It looks great when youâre walking around, but the terrain maps look noticeable worse than 2020 to me at least whizzing around the UK with the drone cam.
Not had a chance to play it properly yet, or buy your add on, but just using the drone cam around the southwest of England, from the air it looks worse than 2020 imo, aside from the excellent trees. It looks like they have a lot of work to do correcting the DEM and satellite textures as the grounds looks kind of blurry from the air.
Yes. This is why I created the mask to make the terrains colors look more natural.
Photogrammetry is a lot worse than 2020.
The blurry terrain depends on internet connection.
This is great! And to be honest, I think these desert bushes may be a good solution to the bushes in northern Scandinavia that stay green throughout the winter currently in the sim. They would simulate a leafless bush in winter very nicely. Itâs one of the main things I wish would be better for northern Scandinavia in the winter time.
Could these new high LOD bushes be used to replace the ones that are part of other biomes (like around Mediterranea, where the biome is a mix of trees and bushes) ? That would be great to fill up the gaps when, at a certain distance, the bushes disappear.
For example, in Greece, in summer :
From up close
Same place from a distance
Yes, from above it might look bare but looking down is not the normal viewing while flying an airplane. When viewed normally they look fine:
However I am experimenting to get the best LOD out of them.
This is the same bush in normal viewing:
Is it possible to increase the density of bushes in these areas, or is that strictly reliant on the ai placement algorithms in the sim itself?
You mean in Greece ? I had a look at different places (around Athens, Skiathos island, Corfu, SamosâŠ), and the density seems okay to me in most places. The game uses whatâs called ecoregions to place trees. The majority of greek territory is included in the eoregion represented in pink on the map below. That means the biome within this ecoregion is the same everywhere. You need to find a sweet spot that covers most scenarios. The biome currently set by Bijan seems to work pretty well in most cases.
To get better accuracy at a local level, the vegetation needs to be manually placed (drawing polygons around the concerned area or even using the new âtreeâ objects in SDK one by one). This is a thing Bijan is doing in certain places, if you suggest him a change.
Iâm also working on a freeware mod (that can be used alongside Bijanâs) to enhance the vegetation around famous airports in Greece, starting with Samos and Skiathos islands, manually placing olive tree plantations, pines and terrain mask when needed. I will open a new thread once I get some screenshots to show.
Another factor to keep in mind that winter landscapes can look pretty bare since lots of bushes and trees lose their leaves. Switch to summer and youâll see a big difference!
MSFS 2020 users are used to seeing trees with leaves all year round, so the winter scenery can be a bit of a shock!
Because a) your product is so great, b) you are so responsive and c) it appears you are working WAY too hard, I feel awful to make a request/suggestion, butâŠ
Today I flew roughly along the coast from Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo in Brazil. In the process I discovered a most unusual dam (Represa de Paraibuna): amazing!
One thing I did notice is that the vegetation/tree coverage along the coast and within the area of the above dam in reality seems a bit closer to the original MSFS2024 vegetation than with your mod. Not a massive difference and certainly not an important issue, but possibly something you could look at/consider in the future. Some examples:
With your mod: almost seems like the terrain mask is a bit âoffâ:
Original MSFS 2024:
Around the dam with your mod:
Original 2024:
As I say: not a significant issue but maybe something to review/consider in the future.
Thanks Bijan: youâre the best!
Of course, I will look into it. Thanks ![]()
How does it work?
Do we have to manually download and drag the new files in community folder for each update? Or to change seasons?
Yes, just like almost every other add-on.
Changing season is done from weather panel in the sim and itâs automatic.
So when we change the date from within the sim, the new season files are loaded on the fly ? Thatâs new!
Correct. For MSFS 2024, there is no need to change seasons by switching folders like in 2020 version.
Thank you Bijan for constant updates and improvements, easily one of the best add-ons for fs24 to date. I have another question: is it possible to remove all the blooming flowers from airport grass textures during winter? Itâs kind of disturbing seeing all the flowers in december when it was snowing a couple days ago.
