Well the good news is only 2 piles of garbage from MScenery released this week.

The bad, really only 3 total updated products this week? I feel like half the developer discords I’m in these days have updates pending. Blacksquare has three aircraft, COWS, A2A Comanche, what’s going on here?

No updates on 2020 regressions then? Oh well

I came here to comment upon why Carenado would develop a C172, when we have such a good version in the base sim.

Then I looked at it. It’s a sweet early production model, with all the lovely early styling characteristics. I’m such a sucker for vintage aircraft.

EDIT:

It’s super cute and a nice upgrade from my beloved C170. The autopilot and the GPS options will be nice for some IFR flights. So far, it flies nicely, too.

Carenado does such nice modeling.

If had to guess I’d say it was more successful than they thought, and it might affect how many airports they can sell on the Marketplace. Some people might be satisfied with correct taxiway designations, and signage, and not care about additional buildings, and other aspects of airport scenery. If marketing noticed a dip in sales, this would be one way of protecting their revenue stream.

I never used it but I understand it had a much restricted feature set compared to creating an airport from scratch with the SDK. If, and when it comes back, hopefully they won’t further reduce the feature set, and instead expand it. Just do what Laminar do. Allow the community to use any default SDK objects. If 3PD’s are worried about impacted sales, make better products at a competitive price.

You may be correct. When they disabled it just before the release of 2024, they talked like it would be back soon after 20204 was released. Now here we are almost a year later. Yes, it was limited. I would love to see the new version if/when it ever gets released again have the ability to use stock objects. The airports are supposed to be reviewed once you give them a makeover in World Hub so if someone went crazy and added tons of 3d objects that shouldn’t be there, the reviewer should note that and kick it back. Asobo/Microsoft put very little effort into most airports. Most of taxiways are not named correctly and quite a few airports are missing hangars and/or terminal buildings. If Asobo/Microsoft can’t or won’t fix these, then they need to get off their butts and release this so the community can do it for them.

Actually I don’t think it has much of an impact considering MSFS more leaning towards a realistic entertainment simulation in contrast to XP or P3D. Looking at companies like Captain Sim quite many are using their products which are basically visuals only.

Personally - as a more casual simmer - I’d always take a realistic visual recreation of my favorite airports over just realistic taxiway designations and general layouts

To really protect and push sales they’d have to suppress freeware for PC as I think most of the people which are satisfied with just correct general airport layouts as per charts are found here and not on consoles anyway.

My best guess about the restrictions is the simplest factor: limited resources.

On one hand technically as people could start to “Minecraft” terminal building shapes using default props, shifting them into each other to create a gargantuan mess of objects just to roughly resemble a complex terminal - yay!

On the other hand to avoid something like that they either need actual people to at least spot check airports or a pipeline to automatically test airport layouts including buildings and other props. Laminar has such a system which has grown and adapted since years with their scenery gateway, for MS/Asobo it’s basically a first try in a much more complex situation than on Laminars end back at XP9 (in which case their amount of included visual objects was pretty barren).

World hub at some point will eventually open again I think but it has to adapt to the new simulator, to new features (it has to work in combination with career mode and maybe also upcoming unannounced features (like additional ground ops?)).

Well, as they announced the first 4 sim updates are dedicated to fix and improve the platform, not to bring new features into it. For MSFS 2020 it surely was not a new feature but for 2024 it kind of is due to the amount of general changes (like career mode as mentioned - a system would be needed to ensure user created/edited airports are working fine within career or can be marked as not suitable for certain mission types).

Maybe SU7 or something like that will be a point for MS to open gates again. We don’t know if they also plan other new airport related features, changes or improvements.

Last but not least: I would not blame them. For most airports they are currently most likely bound to a database set from 2006 or even earlier, at least for most to all airports outside of the US. This is the base for autogen airports around the whole planet.

On top they use OSM data for buildings which is pretty rough and gatekeeped. I tried to edit my house in OSM as the data was not reflecting reality (a section of the building build in 1960 was completely missing and in sim as well as on the dataset my house had a pyramid shape roof style while in reality it has a slightly inclining flat roof. Long story short someone reverted the change because in some random city plan from 1945 it was different.

Now as Microsoft has rights to) use at least LIDO charts they may however be able to build a new database to replace the old one used for autogen airports at least for international ones.

Think 2026

Glad

has been adressed. So there is Hope one day we’ll be able to use mobiflight, AAOs etc. to workaround the in sim control assignments that still get disabled as long as the mouse hovers over undocked sim Windows.

Years old bug, perfectly reproduceable without any addons but never appeared in the roadmap despite the votes and zendesk tickets.

Does anyone know how does one submit a question for the next developer stream?

Usually, a link is provided for question submissions at the same time the next livestream is announced.

I used my new fortune-telling skills to predict today’s Dev Blog content:

  • Happy to announce Playstation
  • Shipped another SU 4 Beta Update. Link to Changelog
  • Announcement of upcomming devstream (as there is the PS Announcement it makes “sense” to go ‘on-air’)
  • Feedback Snapshot still the 6-weeks-old August version
  • Marketplace things

Don’t forget at least 7 new mscenery planes!!! The prophecy is now complete LOL.

I hope Carenado’s C172 comes to MSFS today.

I wonder how many more of them there are to come.
