Series X: Why is performance SO bad around certain areas like Tokyo/Haneda e.g.?

I have tried deleted and setting my cache again multiple times, I have tried deleting and reinstalling the game. The only thing I haven’t done is opt out of the beta.

Why am I getting such BAD performance in places like Tokyo, when taking off from Haneda International? The fps is literally between 5-10 throughout!

This happens no matter which aircraft I choose, third party or not. My connection is around 100mb fiber at the moment. The other areas look fine and I have no fps issues but Haneda/Tokyo, JFK/New York or KLAX in LA are prime suspects.

Tokyo actually is unflyable at the moment due to the ultra bad frame rates.

What’s going on here?

I agree, Haneda is an absolute slide show at the moment, even with live traffic off. I think a lot of it has to do with the airport being poorly optimised, Heathrow is exactly the same. Every time I’ve used Haneda, I usually either get black screens, or a CTD.

The main reason is that these airports are in areas that are super complex for the simulator to draw. Just too many objects to handle. While better optimalization might help some, it will only help to some degree.

Had a similar experience in the Hongkong area some months ago.
Did’nt fly there since then. Did not use 3rd party airports/scenery there.

bye, walter

Same, I’m using only the vanilla world updates and city updates, no add-ons. It’s absolutely dreadful:

Haneda
JFK
KLAX
Maccaren International
and so many more

These airports absolutely ruin the fps, you can’t fly normally around the city with the game running like a slideshow between 5-12 fps.

Series X

it wasn’t like this a while back, I think it has become a thing in SU3. I hope to see all this optimised before the build goes public.

I mean you have poor rendering distances and LOD issues on one hand AND then deal with unplayable fps on the other? Completely unacceptable.

Not at all - I’ve reverted to SU2 and performance is mint again. It’s a beta thing, it desperately needs performance optimisation.

And that is why it is important to state what SU you are on, lol.

Microsoft shares these beta versions to identify problems, so when you find one (as you did), make sure to report it to them via the standard methods.

Oh I have. It’s a shame though, the beta brought hope but performance is really all over the place so not worth it at all, it’s practically unplayable every time you want to fly around a busy, PG-heavy city.

Some cities though, no issues at all - like Texas, Grand Canyon, Barcelona, Madrid, Italian cities, etc.

“And that is why it is important to state what SU you are on, lol.”

No need, I’m posting in the beta forums, but you already knew that, right?

To be honest I find most handcrafted airports included with the sim perform badly when compared to 3rd party versions on 2020 and 2024. Haneda is definitely the worst one though Atlanta and JFK aren’t far behind

Agreed. What has happened to Haneda/Tokyo though? It’s absolutely unflyable right now, with fps ranging between 5 and 10 on Series X!

It’s working okay in SU2 though.

I was having poor performance on PC in Tokyo as well in SU3. After a bit of inspecting in dev mode and testing I’ve found that the poor performance is down to the worldwide helipads scenery package. I’ve disabled this package and now get a smooth 60fps out of Haneda. Restart the sim and clear rolling cache for the fix to take effect.

I think this should be possible to do on Xbox, correct me if I’m wrong.

This possibly fixes poor performance at other large airports as well. JFK and LAX seem better as well.

Hopefully the devs will fix whatever it is that they done to the helipads package as it wasn’t a problem in SU2.

Okay, so I need to find these under the base content and disable them all one by one? I don’t have these downloaded so I just need to disable them as opposed to “streaming”, is that right?

Excited to see if this fixes the ultra-low fps on Xbox around certain locations, thanks so much for your input. :+1:

Edit: Sorry, is this just one package or multiple packages by the same name?

@mappamundi

It’s just one package as per the screenshot in my post. It will show as streaming initially but you should click and disable the package. Dont forget to delete rolling cache or you may get a CTD. Interested to see if this works for anyone else.

You’re ace! I just disabled this and performance is back to normal at Haneda/Tokyo. But the graphics seem kinda empty, not sure why. I’m not seeing the photogrammetry, POIs, landmarks, etc. just very generic buildings and structures around the main Tokyo cityscape.

Let me now reset my rolling cache and set it again to see if that makes the graphics look normal again. Yes, photogrammetry and all the other online jazz is enabled, I now even have live traffic and MP enabled with no performance hit.

Update: I really appreciate the help you’ve provided but unfortauntely, disabling worldwide helipad scenery effectively renders the photogrammetry useless. Haneda looked very bland with all of its “bespokeness” gone, and just looked like any generic airport. Rest of Tokyo looked the same - all landmarks and POIs gone, replaced with very generic scenery and even chimney/powerplant smoke hovering in the air but no structures below it.

It’s not really a fix and of course it restores the smoothness as all bespoke structures, scenery, and photogrammetry are gone. I’ve turned helipad scenery back on.

Thanks again for the help though :+1:

@mappamundi

Sorry no experience of how xbox works. Sounds like you might have inadvertantly started in safe mode which would have the effect of disabling all addons including the MS/Asobo world updates. All is well around Tokyo for me on PC. Of course it is not a fix, more a case of trying to figure out the problem. I did drop a bug report here:

Thanks a plenty mate, that’s the only thing I disabled under Base Content like you recommended, followed by clearing and setting up the rolling cache again.

I can also confirm that turning worldwide helipad scenery back on restored the bespoke airport and city graphics, POIs, landmarks, handcrafted stuff, and all that. So, maybe it works differently on Xbox.

I didn’t see any message pop up saying that I’m in safe mode as I do get that message sometimes in the beta, dunno why. But not getting it at the moment.
