OK up to this point I have been really trying to stay positive about this sim since its release but after today I really do need to know if and when things like this are going to be fixed in Alaska or if they are going to be fixed? Is this just the nature of how this sim maps data from Bing? If that is the case please let us know because if these kinds of terrible terrain issues are not going to get fixed I need to refund this sim ASAP.
I am sorry to come across so negative but with this sim being quite an investment and my main flying is low level bush flying around Alaska and Yukon it will be worthless to me if it canât or wonât be fixed.
The shots below are taken South of Talkeetna, AK just NW of PANC.
Iâd submit it as a Zendesk ticket, and just keep it straight and to the point. "Iâve found this glitch in the terrain at (GPS lat/long from Google Maps). Include the two screenshots, and thatâs it.
@TomZ85 --> âBing Mapsâ <-- , you want to try not to offend them lol, but yea, good suggestion for him to keep it short and sweet. Although they do need as much detail as possible to help pinpoint, it looks like this one might be pretty cut-n-dry.
Thank you for the suggestion and again sorry about sounding so negative but honestly I am just really concerned that these particular issues wont get fixed. Its not just this small area, There are places like this all over Alaska and Yukon. How they were missed in testing I have no ideaâŠ
I will do as you suggest I would just like to hear the Devs address this issue. What causes it? Is there something wrong with just my install maybe? Does others look the same in this area?
Ok flying around a bunch of the coastline near Hay River NWT and I can now see why they did not include any float planes with this sim. The waterways are just a complete mess.
I am sorry but they are. A large number of rivers and waterways at least in AK, Yukon and NWT are like small roller coasters. Up and down, up and down.
How sad this is to see. I was going to put in a ticket for that one specific area but these issue are EVERYWHERE up in those areas. How was none of that not noticed during testing?
Back to Prepar3D for now. For bush flying in those 3 areas is a waste of time at this point.
I am sure I have flown way too much at this point to get a refund so all I can hope for is they will some how find all of these issues and fix them but until then this sim is worthless for bush flying.
If you want to provide feedback, Iâd advise to stick to the facts and avoid hyperbole like âMaddening!â
It doesnât sound very mature and itâs not conducive to the feedback being taken seriously as it could be.
That being said, fixes for part of Alaska are already available. Not sure if it addresses the specific area you mention, but some is better than none
Itâs possible the mapping algorithm has trouble with high latitude areas. Satellites donât get good angles for measuring elevation grids at high latitudes.
Stardo765 , I feel your pain as I love flying in AK , slow and low.
One thing I would like to suggest to you is to maybe branch out a little until this scenery stuff gets sorted. We are only on day 10 of this new Flight Simulator and man Star I have tell you there is a huge huge amazing world to see bush flying style. I mean serious I never thought I would be flying a round the world trip in a c172 but this has really been amazing. I have seen a few scenery issue and did report them but on the whole not many. If I could just encourage you to maybe think about other places to fly , explore and see maybe things that no one in the Sim has yet seen.
It really is awesome bush flying around the world
Good luck to you and yeah I hope they fix this as soon as possibleâŠ
Well I appreciate your feedback but it is maddening to see how these glaring issues made it past testing.
Some people fly below 500ft.
This is the feedback forum correct? Well it is maddening. I am sorry if you find that to not be âmatureâ.
I assure you I am quite mature and have been flying these sims since the beginning and as a beta tester on 3 versions of MSFS in the past I do find it maddening. Hyperbole or not.
What makes it maddening is there is no way they didnât know about these issues.
I appreciate the link but no those fixes that the community so kindly made do not deal with the areas I am talking about. Shouldnât require the community to fix the elevation of waterways. One or two here and there sure but these are EVERYWHERE.
Now you can delete this if you like or if you find it not mature enough even ban me from the forums but I am providing serious feedback for the developers and I honestly hope they take it serious.
Itâs unacceptable. Go look for yourself. See just how many of these issues there are in those areas.
Yes itâs all does seem a bit overwhelming to think about the whole earth and the mesh and all the little place that might have scenery issues, how could they fix all this. But here is the thing , they are using new technology that has never before been used in a Flight Sim. What to you and I might seem impossible could very well be possible and fixed. Not saying it will or they can , I just know not many years ago, it seemed impossible what they have done in a brand new out of the box flight sim and they have pulled it off. We do have our bugs and issues atm but I have faith between this huge Dev Team , backed by MS ( worth millions ) + Bing and their plans for Xbox and our crazy good modding community these things will get fixed⊠They will
IDK though, we have stairstep artifacts appearing on rivers even near the equator.
There are other products for other sims that provide really good elevation data for their meshes, like that FS Global Ultimate NG that I use(d) in P3D. If that or equivalent can be added to MSFS, that would be great.
SirDan I really do appreciate your positive attitude towards it and I am hopeful tomorrow I will share your optimism. Thank you for talk down off the ledge
I think the sim is extraordinary in what it does do well. For GA and airliner stuff it will be great and I do want to do that stuff too but bush flying in those areas are what I have done for so long in these sims I donât want a sim that I canât do that with. So I will remain hopeful you are right that they will fix all of these issues.
Buffy to you too thanks. That might be right. Maybe fixing all of these problems I have seen is not going to be as impossible as it seems. I will stay hopeful you are right.
Seriously from my other posts you might think what a negative jerk that guy is but I assure you there i no one that wants to love this sim more than me. In Prepar3D I have hundreds and hundreds in addons that just stuff that I have to deal with I wanted this sim to get away from having to deal with all of that. Everything in one sim no addons needed and I really thought this was going to be it
Maybe it will yet. We will see.
I am getting old and cranky and I need this sim to simplify my simming life not make me crazier than the others
I do understand and share the frustrations. It ruins the experience in many areas.
But itâs MUCH more productive to submit a Zendesk ticket with a screenshot with the VFR map or coordinates to show where it is. Venting is ok, but support tickets are better.
I could easily post 50 more but you get the idea. Alaska, Yukon, NWT and BC the water elevation is totally messed up. All I want to know is this going to be fixed. I am patient just tell me its on the list.
And just to be fair is it possible there is a problem with just my data? Does anyone else see these issues? Like I said this is Watson Lake, Yukon Territory. It is probably the easiest to find it is the wave of water overtaking the runway. I would love to know if this is just a problem with my install.
Wow, yeah those are some spectacular space warps going on there!
I think the best is to report each of these on Zendeak (bug tracking system) thatâs at the top of the page. That way it can get triaged and routed to the devs.
