About a week into ownership and I would say I’m pleased so far.

I don’t leave it on the entire flight. I have a button bound to pause head tracking which I use when I’m in cruise or doing other things on my computer. It’s too distracting to have always on.

I’ve also found it’s most useful on taxi, takeoff, and landing when I need much better situational awareness. My landings are way better now.

I’m still tweaking settings. I would prefer that there was a separate sensitivity for forward/back translation. I want to be able to “lean in” farther, but I don’t want to increase up/down and left/right sensitivity.

Like others, I have eye tracking off.

One interesting find, I was getting some odd cyclic up and down movements on one particular flight. I eventually figured out it was because I was chewing gum :joy:

Yeah, it will definitely pick up on you opening your mouth. Your entire face shape changes, and I think it interprets this as you leaning in towards the camera as your face gets larger.

LOL. So, no beards, no mouths. Weird… I have both of those and never had this issue.

It’s really not designed for town criers then!

I found one way, to put one of those masks we wore during Covid over my chin. It’s rock solid then, but uncomfortable for long flights. I found slipping it on just before landing works a treat! :slight_smile:

Been setting this up for hours now. This realllllly needs independent axis sensitivity parameters. I’m getting this annoying pitch snapping when rotating the yaw axis. If I turn my head left or right from a neutral centered position, the camera pitches down and points at my wings. Is MSFS doing that or is it Tobii software? Shift + Right arrow gives me a perfect yaw spin on the y axis. With Tobii it’s all over the place. I can’t be the only one having this issue? Cheers.

Maybe your camera bar is facing upwards too much or something?

One thing I found during calibration that is important but I don’t think noted anywhere: Make sure the “eyes” it shows you during calibration are centered in the window. I didn’t realize at first that the “eyes” it showed were very low in the calibration window, and that caused me to have limited range of motion.

The “eyes” don’t show up for very long, so you kind of need to be quick or else you need to keep re-running the calibration.

  1. Make sure nothing is blocking your Tobii - it needs to see your face clearly.

  2. Make sure your Tobii is oriented correctly - you should be able to read the letters “tobii” on the front of the unit normally.

  3. Tobii is set to work below your monitor. It won’t function correctly if it’s mounted anywhere else.

  4. When you calibrate Tobii using the Experience software, make sure you move your eyes and NOT your head when looking at the dots.

  5. In MSFS I’ve found it useful to reduce the amount of eye tracking vs head tracking.

I have found some of issues with settings:

  • After every game launch it seems the yaw/pitch dead zone (center stabilization) is reset. I need to enter Tobii profile in game, change anything and re-apply profile to make it effective again. I don´t see that values inside the profile file (at wgs folder) are changed between game sessions when I open them with Notepad++, so it seems MSFS is just not loading the existing profile correctly until you re-apply it.

  • Whenever you activate head position tracking the yaw/pĂŹtch dead zone setting (center stabilization) is ignored. Any small movement of head (either rotation or position) just moves it as well in game. Dead zone seems to work only if just yaw/pitch axis is used.

  • Increasing head movement yaw/pitch factor requires an addional increase of center stabilization factor in accordance to maintain the effective head movement dead zone area as it was before. So center stabilization is not a real dead zone as in a regular joystick but a factor of the currently set head yaw/pitch movements factor.

I think the dead zone issues could be solved by simply using the “AxisDeadZone” variable in the MSFS profile for the yaw, pitch and roll axis, as other joysticks do when you enable dead zones on their axis. For Tobii center stabilization is just another additional axis instead of a dead zone for those other axis.

Though I don’t understand: how do I move forward/backwards?

I can move up down, left right… but if I move my head torwards the monitor, nothing happens

Are you seeing this issue in Tobii Experience when calibrating?

You need to increase the value of ‘Head Tracking Sensitivity: Position’. I’m assuming it is to the left at 0. Move this to at least 1 to add Z tracking (forward/backward).

The calibration is just for eyes as I understood. However, I’ll follow the advice given in the message below

When you start the calibration, it shows a circle in the center of the display and says something like, “These are your eyes.”

If you move back and forth when this is displayed you can see the dots representing your eyes get larger and more defined or smaller and less defined as you move closer and further away.

I was trying to determine if your issue was unique to MSFS or not.

I thought it odd, that with default sensitivity settings, that you’d have the back and forth disabled in the sim if you hadn’t purposely done so.

Make sure you have removed any other tracking software completely including drivers as this will cause issues like you are describing.

It’s the head tracking position under sensitivity options. It caught out a few people who wee unaware of this option. You change this under the controller settings for Tobii, the sensitivity page is on the left when you go in there.

Also by changing this it will ask to create a new profile so just name it like “My Tobii Profile”. If you use a control profile switcher (like Aircraft Manager) then you will need to assign that profile to ALL planes so it automatically has the full 6DOF when you start a flight.
