Shared cockpit/multiplayer

There are shared cockpits in DCS, the Mosquito for example, so it is not impossible to do. I think a shared cockpit in MSFS would be very popular.

Fingers crossed there’ll be a release date on the next wishlist snapshot (rather than just ‘Planned’)! :crossed_fingers:

I remember, in the Q&A stream where the An-225 was shown, they hinted at a “surprise” feature late in the year (IIRC Q3-ish). This is purely speculation but considering the fact shared cockpit had the label “2023” in the wishlist’s release date column, it could be argued that the surprise content is actually shared cockpit multiplayer

Do we know when the next dev stream is? Perhaps we need to ensure a few of us are there to ask when this will actually be implemented.

In this weeks Dev Update they’ve said they’ll be doing a feedback snapshot on the 16th.

If Shared Cockpit is still listed as “2023” it’s probably safe to assume it is one of their upcoming unannounced suprises. Or the listing could have been changed to something even more enlightening

That logic makes sense, I guess we’ll find out in a few days

Some news with news newsletter?

Nope, no feedback snapshot again

Still no feedback snapshot this week :face_with_steam_from_nose:

One Speculation I currently have for shared cockpit is that for some odd reason I feel like it’s coming for sim update 12 but to be honest it’s just a prediction.

The technical issues with making a General, all purpose, all plane, all shared item “Shared Cockpit” is astronomic … so I do not expect to see that one being mastered in the near (or even distant) future..

I hope I am 100% wrong here – I would love to be able to fly in Shared Cockpit with friends .. but I think that it will always be hit-and-miss (except maybe for a few Core sim aircraft)

Yeah, but they had the same system or similar system for Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) but who knows maybe there’s a possibility that it could happen this year. (2023)

i mean since most of the game already shares code from FSX i don’t see how much more difficult it would be to at the very least port the feature over.

But i suspect the legacy code is their start point for shared cockpit regardless

FSX Shared Cockpit was very limited – Hence, a more complex plane like those Produced by PMDG could never work correctly in “FSX Shared Cockpit”, and thus never were “Shared Cockpit” enabled.

P3D slightly improved shared cockpit, opening it up to be able to be shared by 2 or more players, but it was still based on the old FSX system, with its limitation.

So, please do not hope for a copy of the old FSX system.

Hopefully, Asobo will recognize the limitations of the old FSX system, and design & implement a far better, and more flexible system for MSFS 2020, but its really is a very complex thing to do, as a universal and powerful system for ANY plane, so one should fully expect it to take some time.

If the do it right, it will be well worth waiting for

Yeah I agree. I guess let’s wait and see what Asobo/Microsoft comes up with!

oh yeah no a copy would just be the level 0 version of shared cockpit. I’m saying they can use the legacy code as a base as opposed to creating something from scratch. I’d accept a straight port as no more than a proof of concept, that shared cockpit can be used in the sim. With how complex some of these planes are I agree the code would need to be…i dunno modernized?

The priority that MS/Asobo give to this will be very dependent upon their perception of demand and unless they are prepared to make a feature of it, thus attracting more people to buy their product, I would guess it’s not a large percentage of current players who would find a pressing need for it.
Personally I’d rather they spent their resources on fixing some of the more basic things such as ATC, particularly getting the variety of voices back (using their own product, Azure?) for instance.

We’ve made it to the top 10 boys! Still “planned” but i’d say with one of the “Surprises” they announced i think it’s pretty plausible we’ll get this later this year or early next year.

But, still just speculation in the end.

I have a hunch that the ‘Enhanced API to Access All Aircraft States’ is a prerequisite for Shared Cockpit (for how they are planning to sync between users).

I think that’s the one to watch closely for completion, with Shared Cockpit coming shortly (hopefully lol) after!

I have read a bit about this recently and sounds really good. Something I think of which has perhaps been mentioned before is the multi crew feature in Elite Dangerous. This is basically “shared cockpit” but in a ship. I know that it’s a totally different game and engine but the concept is quite fun.

So I’d imagine in terms of playing with friends or others online, this could be really fun too. Especially with the ability to do co-pilot stuff fully etc. Or even as a spectator for learning purposes and/or party chat.

I hope it does make it eventually!
