Shared Thoughts

Since MSFS 2024 was released I have spent many man hours reading posts here, and watching relevant videos (to the detriment of other things I should be doing). In doing so several things keep buzzing through my mind. In an attempt to do a mental system reset I will share a few of them here.

  1. MSFS is one of the most complicated efforts of software coding on the planet. Asobo deserves kudos for what they have managed to achieve. They are on the “bleeding edge” of what computer technology can be made to do. Given the belief (perhaps falsely) that Asobo wants to get feedback from the users so they can improve their product and it’s consequential experience, I have sympathy for them in trying to ferret out the most useful information from this forum. Here’s my idea for doing so. Using AI technology Google search gleans information from all around the internet, and presents it in a “Google AI Search Summary”. I find these to be very helpful regarding the quest for information. Microsoft has something similar in their browser/search engine. Amazon now uses AI technology to provide the shopper with a similar “executive summary” of their reviews – minimizing the need to read every review on a given product. With help from Microsoft, it seems doable that Asobo could apply these AI Summary facilities and technology to scan the forum data base (using given search arguments) and get a summary of the feedback users are providing. I can imagine it is too overwhelming for anybody to do this “manually”. Exploitation of AI Summaries could make the overwhelming data points here into something comprehendible. Step 2. Read the summaries and apply the discoveries as appropriate.

  2. Circa 1970 I learned a phrase I have used ever since because it applies to so many situations. Especially my own mental, physical, and project foibles. “When the head’s dumb, the whole body suffers”.

  3. “Water, electrons, and people take the path of least resistance.”

  4. “Pioneers are those people with arrows in their backs.”

  5. Engineering tenet: “Minimize the number of failure points.”

  6. Keep It Simple Stupid

  7. There’s no free lunch

  8. Do Asobo managers use MSFS?

Well, at the age of 82 I can’ remember the other ones! I reserve the right to post them here as recollected.

I request that posters in this thread make an effort to be civil, positive, and non judgemental (unless it is me).

A preemptive reminder that Generative AI or AI/ML/Model use to create replies or threads is not allowed per Code of Conduct. Some folks already stepped into that over the holidays.
