Ship traffic is not associated with appropriate models. Specific example, the BC Ferries are being shown with some type of small freighter rather than a typical passenger/car ferry. (In contrast, GAIST in 2020 does match models very well.)
No ships appear when set to AI Traffic (even though the setting refers to aircraft). Ships only appear when “Live” aircaft traffic is set.

REPRODUCTION STEPS
Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:
Enable traffic labels to easily identify ship traffic.
Fly over the Tsawwassen ferry terminal near Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Observe ship traffic with “Live” aircraft traffic enabled.
Note incorrect models.
Change aircraft traffic to “AI”.
Note not ship traffic present.

Also the ships are not visible until you are on top of them.
LOD is 200 for both terrain and objects, ships set to ultra. This is at WSSS, a major shipping port, and an amazing approach / departure over 100’s ships!
As I zoom in, a few can be seen (it takes 10 - 20 sec to populate, and some are spinning like they were in Alpha) some disappear and re-appear as a different ship, some don’t fully show, etc etc
I am unable to post a separate bug for this as I have been in the sin-bin for a couple of weeks now. If anyone wants to use this post to create new bug , by all means.
It may not ever be possible for msfs to match a type of boat/ship to a certian model. Unless manually asigned by vessel name, by someone/something that has knowledge of a particular vessel. Think add on here, by a person or company.
It will be very diffent in areas of the world also.
Rules/Regulation for Marine Navigation vary widely and reporting systems vary also and are not as stricit as ac reporting systems.
Usually, if type of vessel is reported AT ALL, by the boat/ship, its pretty generic.
Some common reporting types:
Passenger ship, Frieghter, Pleasure craft, Tug, Fishing Vessel, Cargo Carrier, Bulk Carrier.
A Passenger Ship can look 100’s of different ways but an A320, no matter the version, will look like a A320.
Example: My local ferry service which is the largest in world, has about 10 different looking vessels ranging in size. They all report as Passenger Ship.
Expecting or even just wanting MSFS to model match is more than can be asked for, it is not possible in many cases.
@ccrbc I don’t think @FieldGunner is after model matching so much as type matching. He is expecting a passenger ship, but is seeing a cargo carrier. If this is fixed, then even if the FS2024 passenger ship is somewhat smaller or larger than the real passenger ferry, eg not an exact model match, that would still be less of an immersion killer than seeing a cargo liner there instead.
When it was announced 2024 would be supporting ship traffic and using scheduling / routing information data, I was excited and expecting the result to be similar to what we had using the freeware GAIST addon in 2020. That package does an outstanding job of replicating shipping traffic around the world and matching model types to the traffic types: i.e. ferries look like ferries and cargo ships look like cargo ships. There are hundreds of models/liveries in the GAIST package.
If it’s not possible within the 2024 framework, then I’m hoping the built in shipping traffic will be separated from the built in air traffic so I can turn off the built-in shipping traffic and use a 3rd party package like GAIST.
The current 2024 implementation really falls short of what was already possible with 2020.
Oh, thanks Kai, guess i confused something then.
But i think they were involved somehow right? Pretty sure it was mentioned in a Dev Stream or something.
The ship traffic its a big catastroph. No ships will be shown on the water. And if i see some ships the stand still or the cyrcle on the water. Or ships are shown and 2 seconds later the ship is no more visible… We need ship as AI not Live because live dont work rly good.
I flew Paris and, on the Seine, there were ocean liner tankers on a river clearly not capable top handle such size vessels. There needs to be a rule for boats on rivers that make then actually capable of going under bridges and “fit” the river. It was positively comical to see super tanks into the buildings sideways across the river.
