Ships and boats in MSFS2024...none!

I flew into Nassau last night and I think half the world’s ships were there. I didn’t think to get a screenshot, but my VR frame rate went from 30ish to 6-10. There were so many they were running into each other. Big freighters parked inside sail boat marinas… it was crazy!

I saw some yesterday when I flew into Abidjan (DIAP) in the Cote D’Ivoire on a free flight. Initially I only saw the name tags (there were loads) but if I zoomed in the boats appeared. I guess it’s something, although the name tags made the screen look at mess. I only turned on the name tags yesterday so I suppose that helped me spot them as otherwise I might not have seen anything. That said, even zooming in on the Panama Canal there was nothing. Maybe you need the name tags on for the ships to appear?

Thanks. :grinning:

Never thought of that. I’ll give it a try, although it would be annoying to have it on all the time (another bug maybe?).

Also, I fly almost only in VR, so had my TLOD set too low at 100 to get the best FPS. I’ve since discovered that was what was giving me awful ground textures and now use TLOD 300 (400 in 2D), so hopefully that will allow any ships to appear from further away.

Lots of names but can’t see the boats. If I get doen low enough they’ll appear but it’s a faff. It would be nice if you could just see them from a distance.

That’s the poor object lod that needs fixed

Yeah they’re still a way off in that image but I had to be literally a few hundred feet over them for them to appear.

Flying GA in denmark, I see some in weird places pointing in all different directions, seems to be very casual and it seems like they are not moving at all, so i guess the inmplemenration is far from finished. To bad as it is the same developter who made GAIST for msfs2020 wich was pretty good.

I had object LOD 100 and couldn’t see any boats (only the name tags), increased it to 200 and I see lots of them now. Looks like you need to increase the object LOD to see them, otherwise you need to be on top of them. Weird.

it’s not the same dev. I also thought Henrik was directly involved in the new ships, nope. The new ships models are done by Gaya.
We are still waiting for GAIST to be compatible with MSFS24

Ok, thanks for the clarification, hope to se Henriks gaist be msfs 2024 compatible soon, because the default implementation is a mess.

I’m flying over Paris and I’ve found big ships stuck, trying to turn around… Even flying ones! Really strange…

Lol…so do I, but no one in development seems to care much about that so far.

I have had LOD on 200 since the beginning - no ships.

I’m on Xbox X (and in SU2 beta) - for the first time ever I have lots of boats and ships. They move too - not much of a wake, but adds to the game immensely.

Although marketed heavily, no ships. no animals. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

That’s both not correct.

Since release I was able to discover both, however the ships have some LOD related bugs which makes/made them appear only close up, especially the large tankers are plagued by that.

Now on SU2 Beta, as mentioned above, more ships are rendered properly also from the distance.

Hi @VulcanFoundry
I’m not sure why you are not seeing them, but there are many animals in MSFS 2024. For example, see this topic:

There are plenty of animals all over but they are small from the air and easy to miss. That’s a herd of dromedary camels right there, for example.:

Ships had a big LOD problem but have become more visible in the latest SU2 beta versions. Mostly smaller ones, though:

EDIT:

Literally seconds ago on a flight west of FEFZ in the Central African Republic:

okay then. I stand corrected.
