Just wanted to give some short feedback here - maybe add a forwarding to the developers by community manager !
Since I initially had very positive impressions compared to the MSFS 2020 weather, I also wrote this in various forums and I didn’t really want to report negative things about the LIVE Weather
But now I’m not sure if this had anything to do with the last update, hopefully they didn’t reduce the weather accuracy here to gain bandwidth, maybe just an imagination but on the first flights the weather was more detailed and as I said, it could be my imagination!
because all of a sudden I see all these hoofed metar ‘clusters’ everywhere, like in MSFS 2020. Seb has said in various presentations that MSFS 2024 will have more details, more cloud layers and that they will interact better with each other (something like that) and that there will also be a haze layer - but I’ll get straight to the point.
As I arrived in Vienna myself today ( in real life), I thought - well, let’s see how MSFS depicts the weather and flew part of the flight.
It was very cloudy, poor visibility, partly rain.
Clouds below was low and above were quite high and - very important - all the way through!
But MSFS shows this - as often reported in MSFS 2020 - screenshots follow - the clouds are there but are by far not continuous, only there presumably where there is a METAR station - so the upper cloud layer should be where it starts on the screenshot and the lower cloud layer should be where it ends - but go through and not like here - exactly the same quirks as in MSFS2020 - in addition, the weather in LOWW was ultimately not correct either.
Weather @LOWW
the METAR was at that time (but I’m not a METAR fan - unfortunately the whole thing started with SU5/6 at MSFS2020)
METAR LOWW 081220Z 11007KT 9999 FEW009 BKN012 04/02 Q1009 TEMPO BKN020 - so practically overcast, forecast actually also said overcast with rain, and the satellite image clearly had clouds over LOWW - so what comes into play here - none of the methods mentioned would show that !
Webcam LOWW:
And now for comparison another simulator that uses a similar method (just for comparison, please don’t discuss whether ‘the egg or the hen is better’)
LOWW:
on route approximately the same position as before, but different heights !
As I said - I didn’t notice this during the first flights in MSFS2024 - hopefully not changed with the last updates !!!
