Everyone else has said what I wanted to say. I’ll only add that the shut down issue in 2020 needs a hotfix. Other than that leave SU16 out of 2020. 2020 is my go to FS. But if SU 16 gets pushed out I will also be switching to XP 12 full time.
Sounds like a very good solution, leave SU16 as a permanent Beta.
Is not solution, have a other reason behind this Is future World Update … Microsoft Already confirmed than MSFS 2020 still support with SU and WU minama up to 2028.
They can continue with that, no problem, just keep it in beta branch until it has been fully regression and user acceptance tested. We know they have to keep pumping shiny stuff for commercial reasons, but as I mentioned previously, please leave us with one functioning simulator.
Even a bad Su16 is going to look better than xplane’s scenery.
The problem will be that Microsoft promised to update FS2020 for some time. If they do not release SU16, the marketing department will probably explode. So the release of SU16 will happen, no matter how many people here will make comments. After that? I am pretty sure Microsoft would like to drop development of that platform because it is costly and does not bring in any fresh money.

As mentioned earlier, its not just about scenery.
Is it the marketing dept that have landed 2024 in the pickle it seems to be in?
That is a question, not a statement.
Yes, thank you. I have not mentioned the word ‘scenery’ once in my opening post.
Just give us the shutdown fix Please. As I mentioned on another thread a good alternative would be to have a button on the online data page that gives you an option to try the new Bing maps. Call it Bing maps beta. Then users can check it out if they want and use it or not. This gives them time to work on it and save face.
Mathijs, you probably know more than anyone in this community what is going to happen and so can see the writing on the wall.
There’s just a few of us that have extra thick heads for banging against the wall (also not saying that you don’t) who really wish things were different and at least want to go on record for saying DON’T DO IT

Sincerely much respect for everything your company has done to advance the flight sim world.
No he does not know anything more than others. Marketing department??? Just his normal way of master other by claiming this and that.
When I kneel down to say my prayers each night, I specifically ask that there be no more updates to MSFS2020, I think it’s fine the way it is. I know that’s selfish- but I hope one day my prayers will be answered.
That’s the dream bro
My Personal Comment & Observation
This was the sustain plan for 2020 back in June last year:
I’ve not heard of any changes to this plan.
I agree with @TheFalconOne that SU16 will happen. The user base for MSFS is far larger than the total user participation on this forum, and the team at MS surely factors the opinions of those users in their decision-making process too.
In my mind, “2020 Sustain” does not mean “development of new functionality” for 2020.
I suspect (speculation) that until 2028, all CUs & WUs will be designed to work for both 2020 and 2024, which is why, in the May Development Livestream, Lionel Fuentes talked about the world data alignment:
So, at this point, it looks like 2020 will continue to have updates: to CU18 & WU38; and future Local Legends (LL49) & Famous Fliers (FF22) may also be available on both platforms.
Jorg also mentioned “SU24”, which equates to an additional 8 SUs through 2028, though they may be much smaller than previous 2020 SUs, perhaps just targeting very specific issues identified by telemetry or allowing more cross-edition compatibility with 2024.
There are bugs that are shared between sims, and if fixed in one environment should be relatively easy to fix in the other - ie. the silly problem with plane registrations being seen as flight numbers. I very much would be annoyed to find out Microsoft couldn’t be bothered to fund the porting of such changes between sims.
Especially since, while the “decade of support” was a misspeak, we were promised updates beyond FS24’s release - see the comment above written as I was writing this. It’s annoying enough that some vital system, like the scenery hub, will almost certainly not be cross-platform even though both sims need it a lot
For me, SU16 beta runs better than previous versions. Maybe it’s because my computer is pretty much outdated compared to many of yours out there. I have a I7-7700K with a 1080ti. I’m happy with SU16 beta. ![]()
You’re correct, however remember that sim updates for 2020 are occurring at around once yearly now. So the LOD bug with 2024’s map (as below) are in 2020 SU16. At the very least they should resolve this before pushing the map alignment fixes into SU16, so we don’t have to fly with blurry borked aerials for a year until there’s a fix for both sims.
As @TheFalconOne and @SmotheryVase665 have mentioned, 2020 will be in sustain mode.
There will be ongoing work, but if they push 2024 stuff into 2020 that sustaining effort will have to be spent on fixing 2024 technical debt, rather than on 2020 technical debt, in an environment of declining return on investment.
As mentioned previously that means that everything that they have broken up in 2024 will have to take priority rather than the much smaller amount of issues left in 2020 after 4-5 years of development.
Jorg mentioned in the dev stream that they have got the funding for the next two financial years (I think). Sorry to keep pushing this point, but it highly unlikely that any company has funding allocated beyond their current financial year, it’s just not how it works. And if they do it’s going to be for a ‘new’ product.
So again, please, sustain 2020, many of us are happy with it, just don’t brake it by pushing 2024 shiny/performance degrading/nonsense/arcade/cartoon stuff into 2020, spend the money on 2024 but leave us happy 2020 simmers alone.
Can’t we have the best of both worlds? Can’t we have FS2020 updates and bug fixes at the same time they are fixing FS2024? At some point I know, and understand that “All Things Must Pass” but at least give us the 10 year lifespan that I believe was originally promised for 2020. By then, 2024 should be in pretty awesome shape (I hope- I haven’t tried it yet and don’t intend to until I see proportionately way more positive reviews.)
