Sim now seems incapable of rendering overcast consistently or accurately using live weather

Yes agreed … so how does KLAR look now in fs2024 ?

I was looking at the melbourne one … and meteo blu show clear skies kn satelite also ( not sure when those posters shots where made though )

EGGD 282020Z AUTO 32004KT 9999 OVC009 05/05 Q1029

EGKK 282020Z 27004KT 240V300 7000 OVC004 05/05 Q1029

EGSS 282020Z AUTO 32004KT 3900 BR OVC002 04/04 Q1028

Uk once again missing all of the overcast cloud in live weather.

Basically I’m saying that the sim should not be using metar to inject cloud when clearly it is. The second photos are in Dunedin, New Zealand. When at the time had a full cirrus overcast on satellite, but the sim couldn’t depict it most likely because the metar can’t detect high level clouds. So the metar is interfering with the meteoblue forecast data.

The sim is definitely using METAR for clouds, even though they say it’s not! and as I said many times, you can see the METAR areas even from the world map, especially in north America and Europe. They really need to stop lying in our face and address these issues!

They really do! I remember in one stream Jorg said how important weather is to them! Huh so much for that hey! They just need to review why cloud is being injected by metar and stop it from doing so. Even Pre SU7 I’m pretty sure Metar was being used for wind, temp and pressure.

The thing is now though is that even in areas where METAR is reporting overcast, it has clear skies and not injecting it correctly so it’s almost like just one complete bugged mess now, I don’t think any of it is working correctly.

is there any weather program that works, for mfs24?

Nope unfortunately not even active sky doesn’t work properly

What’s the problem with Active Sky?

I have exactly the same problem with overcast as MSFS live weather, in that it just doesn’t display it correctly.

Seems to be a problem especially over overcast layers around 500ft or less, it only shows reduced visibility rather than an actual cloud layer, so I’m guessing it’s an MSFS issue that Active sky also can’t avoid.

Same here. Nearly all German airports currently are under a ~4.000 ft thick stratiform layer IRL, based OVC around 2-400 ft AGL. Depicted weather in both sims (20+24) is SKC…
Plz fix it. Thx, Björn

The live weather is completely bugged it seems unfortunately

I think the issue is that Asobo has no control over the clouddata that is injected from Meteoblue. They only rendering the data that Meteoblue provides. If they get clouddata from Meteoblue that is less accurate it will also show less accurate cloudcoverage in the sim. The part that METAR overrides Meteoblue clouddata is because Asoba asked Meteoblue to prioritise sending METAR clouddata that is blended into the Meteoblue clouddata. Meteoblue needs to do the hard work to create a good blend between Meteoblue clouddata and METAR clouddata. Thats my thoughts.

Asobo only controls the visibility. wind, pressure and temp from METAR.

We as customers or Asobo should report those issues to Meteoblue. Most prefferably Asobo should do this because they use their data in their product they are selling to us

The issue is it’s a bugged mess that needs fixing and some proper attention once and for all.

I’m not sure they have ever stated that, actually.

This is how weather looked before SU5 in MSFS2020. We can clearly see high altitude overcast. Now it’s impossible to see it.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: Since 02nd January, Live weather injection over the UK and Ireland appears to be working but injecting incorrect data and not live data.

Take for example today, 03rd January 2024 at 10:30UTC, Central and Southern England has clear skies as can be confirmed by Satellite cover and also METARs reporting NCD or CAVOK (although not always an indicator of clear skies in this case satellite cloud cover confirms). Forecast data also called for clear skies.

In MSFS however live weather is injecting loads of cloud in these areas when it should not be there, ranging from broken to overcast clouds. It would appear the data is from the wrong day?

MSFS cloud cover:

Actual Satellite cloud cover:

EGBB for example:

EGTK Oxford:

Actual conditions should be clear:

Provide specific location or coordinates:

It is particularly evident at central and southern aerodromes such as:

EGKK
EGSS
EGGW
EGLL
EGNX
EGBB

All of which should be showing clear skies but has lots of cloud cover.

Provide time and date of the observed weather issue: It started 02nd January 2025 and can be observed again today 03rd January 2025, 1030UTC.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)? Every time since yesterday.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Load live weather at a central or southern UK airport such as EGKK, EGLL, EGBB, EGNX
  2. Lots of cloud cover loads in and can also be observed on world map
  3. Cloud cover should not be present.

At around 1100UTC it updated and now appears to be more in line with what you would expect to see:

This might be off topic but I feel the clouds are way too scattered.

Update at 1200 UTC back to being wrong again with cloud injected all over the UK.
